I'd be a very happy man if we could get one of these packages for Beal.
Philadelphia. Nerlens Noel & Robert Covington
Boston. Avery Bradley & Kelly Olynyk
New York. Carmelo Anthony
Charlotte. Cody Zeller or Frank Kaminsky & Jeremy Lamb
Cleveland. Kevin Love (I would have no problem expanding it to a Beal/Kieff for Love/Shump swap as Lyrical mentioned)
Other offers I'd consider:
Dallas. Wesley Matthews & 2017 1st round pick
Sacramento. Willie Cauley Stein, Omri Casspi & Ben McLemore
Denver. Jusuf Nurkic & Gary Harris

Whoa, a Melo shout-out. Nice! For a while he was my Plan B if KD2DC doesn't happen. I've been exploring other things more recently, but I still wouldn't be opposed to it. Especially considering he and Beal will be making nearly the same amount.
Also, if I was ordering the list, I might move the Sacto package up into the "happy" section and the Charlotte package down to the "consider" section.

I wish I'd remember to track the first Melo sighting in the yearly off season thread. Somehow it seems like the older he gets and the more he declines the earlier his name comes up. I can't imagine a worse salary to take on. I'd rather max Beal than trade him straight up for Melo.
The rest of those deals, I'm struggling to see teams go for, although, like LR, I really like the Sac'to deal -- except substitute either Quincy Acy or Seth Curry (both??
) for Ben McLemore. I also like the Denver deal, even though Nurkic hasn't done anything yet.

Yeah, Melo at 32 isn't who I'd be looking to acquire. Besides, Melo has said he doesn't want to come back to the area. I'm trying to face the fact that we're going to likely pay Beal the max to stay - which I think is a big mistake.

Beal has declared himself to be a max player. What if the market disagrees -- i.e. what if he finds himself in a Bledsoe or Greg Monroe situation whereby no team is willing to give him a max contract as an RFA?
Knowing the cap is going up even more next summer, would Beal consider taking the QO from the Wizards and betting on himself doing better next summer? If I was his agent, I'd certainly advise against it. But pride is a funny thing.
Here's my question: if Beal indeed signs a qualifying offer and becomes a UFA next summer, would the Wizards still be able to offer him that additional fifth year, whereby other teams could not?

He would still be a Birds-right FA, so they can resign him to the 5th year and higher raises.
It would seem like really bad negotiating that would lead to Beal even threatening to go the QA route. The Wizards have a strong case for any 4 year deal over $95 million since that is the most another team can offer. With the 5th year the best case(QA followed by 4 year max deal with higher cap) for Beal is $118 million. The 5 year max from the Wizards is $128 million.

Ben Gordon was better than Beal but the Bulls refused to max him when he became a RFA. He ended up taking the QO after the Bulls pulled their offer. Then he left the following year for nothing. Smart move by the Bulls.

The market has changed.
The Max really doesn't mean Elite anymore, it has extended to role players and starters.
Case in point.. Their talking about giving Harrison Barnes the max
Wesley Matthews, Brook Lopez, Greg Monroe, Enes Kanter, Reggie Jackson and Tristan Thompson all got max deals of varying lengths and salaries this past offseason.
So yea Max Bradley Beal...

Some of those guys got the max recently, meaning that the GM's knew the cap was about to go way up so those max deals wouldn't hurt their cap situation as much going forward. Can't compare maxing Beal to those deals because it isn't the same situation. A max deal now would be far more than those guys got.

Exactly tontoz. Reggie Jackson making 16M is much better than Barnes at 22M. If the salary cap stayed the same (70M), Barnes & Beal are 12M per year players. With an increase to 92M, that pushes them up to about 16M. The further increase to 108M pushes them to 18M.
So a fair contract-ish for both of them would be about 4/72-75M
16/17 - 16M
17/18 - 18M
18/19 - 19M
19/20 - 20M
I would still max Beal if need be, but i wouldnt like it (though 3/60M would be easier to swallow)
