It was a curse when an ascendant John Williams hurt his knee.

It was organizational malfeasance when, during his recovery, he wasn't counseled and handled such that he wouldn't eat his way out of the league.

Lucky results are usually a result of taking risks that have a good ratio of risk reward. The Warriors had 9 2nd round picks in between Monta Ellis and Draymond Green. There weren't any other players who made an impact. One way of looking at it is that even a good GM has a low success rate with 2nd rounders. However the cost of the picks is very low and the reward of hitting successfully is very high. Recently the Warriors had a couple years without draft picks. However they still brought in undrafted FAs - including Dedmon and McAdoo. Another low rate of success, but high reward when it pays off.
