Sato can at least defend, and he the size to guard 3 different positions. As long as he plays with Beal, we'd be fine. Brooks just needs to stagger the rotations.

I really wouldn't mind Sato. My angst is with the Frazier trade and him ultimately being anointed backup PG. Does Ernie not like PGs who can make open jumpers and run plays? Surely can't be that difficult. It's been a problem since John was drafted.

I am of the opinion that the backup PG can completely tank a bench that is otherwise pretty solid at the other positions. Which is why I would be in favor of going after a guy like Bledsoe. I think you insert a solid PG next to Meeks/Oubre/Scott/Mahinmi and stagger a starter or two and our bench could be one of the best in the NBA.

Frazier just isn't gonna make that happen.

I agree, trading for Bledsoe automatically makes the bench better. If there's a case where Wall or Beal get injured, you can easily slot him in and he can play alongside both of them. If he has to lead the second unit because Brooks doesn't like to play starters with them, he can carry that unit a distribute with Meeks and Oubre on the floor. I'm not concerned about the contracts because EG already screwed the Wiz in the department by giving big money to subpar players before.

Sato/Beal/Porter
Wall/Beal/Sato/Porter
Wall/Sato/ Oubre/Porter

Seems like he could fit in in these roles, though the last might be a stretch

Sato can't make an open jumper either though?

Basically, Beal is our backup PG. Whenever he or Wall is off the floor simultaneously, we have to accept that it's gonna be ugly. When Kieff gets back we can at least stagger him and Otto with that bench unit to provide some shotcreation

We should let Felix get some run off the bench he was decent in our preseason. Not like anyone else doing anything.

Sato is as much of a threat to shoot the ball as Frazier. They really aren't that much different in terms of their scoring abilities lol.

It seems to me that when Morris is healthy, the Wizards have a very good nine man rotation. Frazier and Meeks are good enough for 12 minutes a game, and the rest of the bench minutes can go to Oubre and Mahinimi.
Viva le tank! At this pace, it will never end.

All things considered, Sato and Frazier are probably equal in terms of talent. Maybe the push to Sato given his size and defensive prowess. However, there is something I see in Frazier when he's on the floor that Sato doesn't bring - which is floor generalship. He does a good job of commanding the second unit and putting guys where they need to be from what I've seen. Which is probably why Brooks have opted to go with him over Sato as the bench PG.

I went to last night's game firmly in the Free Sato camp. I thought, "he can't be much worse than Tim Frazier." Well, he is. Sato isn't much of an NBA guard at this point. He can't run a team, he doesn't shoot well, and his defense is more potential than actual. Keep in mind, he was playing against the backups on a bad team who'd played the previous night.

Biggest thing that may come from Wall’s injury is the emergence of the bench, particularly Sato. Oubre has been consistently good and Meeks and Scott have had their moments. The play from Sato and Mahinmi over the last two weeks has been encouraging. They mean we don’t only have wing depth but some point and big depth.

Last year, when it was time for the bench to come on I used to cringe.

Now, I actually can't wait for the bench players to sub in. I cringe at the tip off and during the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

good news, Brooks has been leaving Satoransky in the game down the stretch over Frazier last few games. Seems like Sato has jumped up the depth chart whenever Wall is back healthy.

priority number one with this team needs to be upgrading from Morris or possibly Gortat, though the draft or through a smart trade.

I think it should be through the draft. There isn't any clear upgrade out there in the trade market that won't saddle us with unbearable luxtax implications. We have Morris and Gortat under contract for one more year, and they each have a replacement that seems to be getting better as they decline (Oubre and Mahinmi). We have the time to groom a replacement, or at least wait until some team is forced to make a bad trade under duress.
