Sure it was boring, but that's Memphis for you. No crowd so tough to get excited. Wall showed flashes of being back but Beal's horrific shooting kept this from being a total blowout. Thankfully, he woke up in the fourth quarter. I'd really don't mind Scott starting. Bring Morris off the bench Monday along with Mahinmi, assuming both are healthy. Meeks had 7 rebs and 5 pts tonight. Just not feeling Meeks and I dind't mind the Frazier/Sato backcourt. Sato playing 15 minutes at the point and some at the 3 is fine. Jason Smith was just like this game. Ugly, all over the place, somewhat effective. Gortat wasn't horrible tonight but his defensive lapses are maddening. Beal played too many minutes at 39, coming off 36 minutes the night before.

"Morris expects to play Friday"

Can he just.... not?

Sato first PG off the bench! Yes Brooksy! He didnt play amazing but he is so much better than Frazier.

The team is just so much different with Wall back. Beal and Otto can play their game. Gortat just isnt the same player without Wall..... Now can you imagine the Wall-Effect with another C like Drummond or DeAndre?

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Morris should come off the bench. Him and Gortat playing lazy, uninspired defense, is a cancer on this team.

I have been basically indifferent to Scott. To me he is just a vet min guy and I don't expect much from him.

But I just looked at his numbers. On the season he is averaging 16 pts per 36 with a TS of 62.7%. that is pretty strong especially from a vet min guy. His RPM of -.72 isn't bad, actually better than Morris.

He isnt starting calibre but he is better than Morris this year, so far.

Shouldn't the starters be Wall, Beal, Oubre, Porter, Gortat?

The last I checked Scott also rebounded at a higher rate than Morris.

I am not comfortable starting Porter at the 4. Durability is not his strength. I have seen him limping a few times in recent games and he had a MRI on his shooting hand not long ago.

He doesn't take contact well. Even minor contact can throw him off balance.

That is a perspective I hadn't considered. That playing time at the 4 would decrease his longevity.

Seconded.

It's pretty rare for a healthy Morris to get himself motivated to play with effort, it's foolish to think that it will happen when he's got a nagging injury. Sit him. Let him get healthy. Allow Oubre and Scott to take his minutes for a while and show him that he isn't indispensable. Maybe THEN he'll come back and play hard.

Yeah, he has been very productive offensively thanks to an impressive shooting streak. He's also a pretty savvy passer. He's a bad rebounder though, and he doesn't seem to have the anticipation to get any steals or blocks. We should certainly keep riding him while he's hot, but there will come a time when he goes on a cold streak and we'll really start to notice his warts on defense.

Overall, he's a perfectly capable, perhaps above-average backup forward, and he is a bargain on a vet-minimum contract. But he's not a guy you want starting for 82 games.

Agreed. I like Scott starting. Oubre should come in pretty early though and bump Porter to PF. Basically, Oubre, Porter and Scott can handle all of the forward minutes, with Sato stealing maybe 4-6 minutes at SF if necessary.

Although I suppose it depends on the matchup. Here were all the starting 4s from yesterday's games, you could have Oubre playing the 4 in many of them.

BOS- Jason Tatum
CHI- Mirotic
CHA - Williams
DEN- Trey Lyles
HOU- Anderson
IND- Thaddeus Young
LAC- Wesley Johnson
MEM- Jaymichal Green
MIL- Giannis
MIA- James Johnson
NO- Anthony Davis
OKC- Carmelo Anthony
ORL- Jonathan Simmons
POR- Aminu
TOR- Ibaka
UTA- Favors

Missed the game. I didn't see a Player of the Game thread. Is that a measure of how unremarkable a win it was?

The first half was ugly. I missed the 2nd half so I'm not qualified to vote on POTG.

I see Beal hit three 3's late in the 4th quarter that looked critical to closing out the game, and he also assisted on two other 4th quarter 3's. He was lousy in the first half though. Missed every jumper... again. He finished with 7 assists with just 1 turnover, so that's pretty nice.
