Hey Wizards fans, curious if Gortat might be someone you think could be dealt, and if so, what might you be looking for him?

Absolutely.

We'd be looking to take back less salary in any deal. I'd like us to get younger/more athletic in the front court too. Front court is where we need the most help.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Would Henson (27 on a declining deal) or Thon Maker (somewhere between 21-24) check any of the younger / more athletic boxes for you do you think?

Salary wise, another Bucks player that could be in the mix is Mirza Teletovic, whose last season might fall way to a medical retirement ala Chris Bosh.

Is Gortat done or how is he playing?

The Bucks badly need help on the boards in particular. It's not fair for Giannis to be asked to do everything!

Gortat being able to hit even just a mid-range shot would be very helpful for us too.

It's possible we would go for a straight up Henson for Gortat swap if the Wizards would go for it. We might add sweetener ala Rashad Vaughn or a 2nd round pick or even our first round pick from this last year DJ Wilson.

Alternatively we could offer something more like Thon + Teletovic.

The Bucks have discovered the hard way that Thon is still not ready to consistently contribute is the problem. It's possible he's a bust. But if the Wizards have enough help up front to play him more spot minutes than as the primary back up he certainly would be worth taking a flier on.

Very interesting. Gortat is not done. I think your team has the pieces to mostly cover for most of his issues as you have better defenders. We cannot take on much in terms of years or salary so Teletovic is the only piece that would really make it work. No thanks on Vaughn. Would have to think hard about your second this year vs Maker. I'd have to think long and hard about it, but either way I'd love this deal.

My opinion: Gortat is done (with the Wizards). A change in scenery would benefit him. I dont know whether its the org, or a player(s), or him, or a combination of these three, but something is going on and he hasnt been playing well for a few weeks.

When he is engaged he is a great pick and roll guy. Not so much a pick and pop guy but can hit shots in the paint. Lauded as one of the best screeners in the league and leads the league in screen assists. Other end of the floor, he is average to pretty good.

I would be more interested in this type of deal
Mahinmi and our 2018 second plus cash for Maker, telatovic and terry.
But i would be plenty open to a gortat for henson trade.

Thanks for sharing all your perspectives! Flagging we're talking about Gortat on the Bucks board here:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1657256&p=62551202#p62551202

I don't think the Bucks would be interested in Mahinmi since he has so many more years on his contract.

After next season we will likely be extending some combination of Brogdon + Bledsoe + Middleton, and that's after Jabari this offseason, so our salary situation could explode.

Gortat expires before then though which would be perfect for us.

Bucks fans also heard that the Wizards might be looking for a wing, in which case, maybe Tony Snell would be of more interest than Henson or Thon or Teletovic, or what do we think?

I would do Gortat for Snell straight up. I wouldnt love it, but we get some wing depth and save 3M so we only have to dump Meeks to get under tax instead of Jason Smith

Thoughts about these trade ideas.

Washington get Jordan and Johnson from the Clips and a 2nd from the Magic, Clips get Vucevic and Hezonja from the Magic, and Morris from the Wiz plus Orlando's top 8 protected 1st, and Orlando gets Gortat and a 1st from the Wiz and Williams from the Clips.

or

Washington gets Vince and Cauley-Stein, and a 2nd for Mahinmi and a 1st

Slight amendment to the first trade: http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y9ygjnkv
WAS trades Mahinmi, Smith, Meeks, 2018 1st to SAC for WCS, Z-Bo, Vince Carter

We add some veterans in the locker room, Vince is expiring and a young big man who can protect the rim.
If we want some stability at backup SG, Vince can be swapped out for Otto's twin.

Lol. We could get Thon Maker for Gortat???? I’ll drive Marc to the airport.

Edit: Wait what? Maker is dead last in DRPM Zane shooting 39%? Is he that terrible? We’ll take Henson, final answer.

i think the Gortat for Snell trade is the best bet. The bucks board was for it and it works for both teams.
Gortat is a slighly better player with the shorter contract. Snell plays the more valuable roll and is cheaper each of the next two years.
I actually think we could get a 2nd round pick or someone like Vaughn as well.
We cut 3M with this trade and are then about 2.8M from getting under the lux tax and could dump Meeks pretty easy

Wall / Sato / Frazier
Beal / Snell / Sato
Oubre / Snell / Sato
Otto / Morris / Scott
Mahinmi / Morris / Smith

We keep our pick, become faster/longer/more athletic, better shooting, and under the tax... Im in for that

trade our starting C for another Bojan? Snell can't guard anyone at all. no deal for me. Brogdon and Henson are the only appealing realistic trade options on that roster for me.

Snell is an average to below average defender, but playing under Kidd made his defense look worse. Delly and Snell were both decent defenders on other teams, then are TERRIBLE under Kidd.
I think he can be an average defender and great shooter that plays with positional versatility

Trade Gortat to Milwaukee for Snell and an asset (2nd or Vaughn)
Trade Meeks, CMC, and a 2nd (Ours or Bucks) to a team for cheap rookie contract (I.E. Chicago for Grant/Valentine, Kings for Mason/Skal, Mavs for Kleber, etc.)

Boom

Wall / Grant/ Frazier
Beal / Sato
Oubre / Snell
Otto / Morris / Scott
Mahinmi / Morris / Smith

The latest post in the trade thread for the Knicks https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1617560&start=1140#start_here has an interesting deal I thought was worth mentioning.

The original trade was Kelly Oubre and Ian Mahinmi for KOQ, Courtney Lee, and Lance Thomas.
However, it is clearly hard to see the Wizards moving Oubre.

Another fan quoted right after, "I like the idea/framework but I think the Wiz aren't going to move Oubre. They'd probably rather give us their pick lottery-protected this year which would obviously most likely convey. Switch Oubre with Tim Frazier and include a 1st and that's a deal I could get behind."

Dealing Frazier, Mahinmi and a protected 1st for Lance Thomas, KOQ, and Courtney Lee does work out salary wise. While potentially losing out on a 1st round pick again, we would be getting a reliable backup shooting guard in Lee whom we should have signed in 2016, a DMV native in Kyle O'Quinn who is capable of being a backup center, and Lance Thomas who is a great role player and importantly a good vet. Not to mention we also unload Mahinmi's contract.

Thoughts?

We can't trade Gortat for a long-term contract, leave aside whether one does or doesn't like Tony Snell. We cannot add salary years. Look at what we are facing in 18 months.

Rookie contracts, sure. But, Chicago ain't giving us Grant or Valentine for your package!
