He's done it all year to mixed results but yes, there is a method to his madness. Problem is you really don't have a quality shooting guard that can also handle the ball so the great ball movement kind of turns to sh-t with him and Meeks or him and Oubre at the 2.
This is now my new all time favorite thread. Brooks is “developing Beals ball handling skills” in crunch time of an important game. Just like last season when he was playing Marcus Thornton over Otto Porter in crunch time. He really is a player development Guru. How would Sato ever be this good if he didn’t sit and collect DNPs and learn from Brandon Jennings and Trey Burke??
I feel like I've had to say this too many times - SATORANSKY STUNK LAST SEASON. THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T PLAY MUCH. He produced basically nothing - an 8.5 PER and did that inefficiently - with a 45% eFG and 48 TS%. This season, he's got a 14.8 PER with a 57% eFG and 60% TS%. His estimated wins added went from -.88 to +1.5. His EFF has gone from 3.6 to 8.3 and climbing. Etc and etc. The difference between him this season and last is like night and day.
That being said, I feel like Brooks should have gone to Satoransky instead of Jennings in the playoff series against the Celtics because of his defense. It was terrible when Brooks went to a Jenning/Wall backcourt. 2016-17 Wall was significantly better than Sato last year though; Sato was 0-3 as a starter when Wall was out.
