That move was the most encouraging thing I've seen him do. He's more than just a catch-and-shoot scorer.

Solid game from Corey. Once again that kid Jordan Goodwin was extremely entertaining to watch. Always nice to get a win.

Kispert looked good. Looking forward to seeing what he does in a structured offense.

Mason was decent.

Todd will never get there prior to the end of his rookie contract. He had no feel for the game.

I'm curious about these 2 assessments. I thought Jones played as well as Kispert.

Corey did score 4 more points than Mason while, in effect, he took only 1 more shot (Mason actually only took 7 FGAs, but he did have 8 FTAs). Advantage Kispert.

But there's more to basketball than scoring, right?

Jones got 2 more defensive rebounds than Kispert. But, Kispert blocked two shots, while Jones didn't block any. Kind of a wash there....

Yet, here's the thing... Mason Jones had 5 assists & 3 steals, while Kispert had no assists & no steals. Plus, Kispert committed 1 more foul as well.

As I say, to me it looks like they were about equally good this afternoon. They contributed about equally.

Were either of them as good as Jordan Goodwin? I can't see it really. Goodwin had 7 steals in less than 20 minutes!

Then there was Echenique -- minute for minute, he was pretty clearly our very best player, no?

I guess I wasn’t really weighing Kispert vs Jones. I thought they were both good. It makes sense that Jones would get assists and Kispert wouldn’t given that Jones had the ball in his hands and Kispert didn’t. And yes, Kispert’s lack of rebounding is concerning.

As for Goodwin and Echenique, I really am not paying too much attention to Sheppard’s cannon fodder who will never play for the Wiz.

I did love Channing Frye’s tongue in cheek announcer crush for Jaime. Good stuff. I wish we had him instead of Drew Gooden.

Kispert made 2 or 3 nice drives to the basket off the dribble when defenders chased him off the 3pt line. I was probably more encouraged by that than his 4-7 on threes since we already know he's a good shooter.

I like that Corey already has a solid body that will just get stronger.

I thought this was an interesting turn of phrase:
badinage wrote:...the meltdown over Corey Kispert and Isaiah Todd in Summer League....

So, what is your assessment of Kispert & Todd so far?

For either player:

1. Were there a number of guys taken before our guy who didn't look as good he did? I.e. say, guys taken in the 1/2 dozen picks before Kispert who didn't look as good as Corey? & guys taken in the 1/2 dozen picks before Todd who didn't look as good as him?

2. Were there guys taken after our guys who played a lot better than our guys did?

3. Does this matter? &, if it doesn't, why does it not matter?

4. Grand prize question: how many guys were taken after Isaiah Todd yet played better than Corey Kispert? Please provide an entertaining set of reasons explaining why that doesn't matter.

I think Kispert is gonna be fine! He has enough klay Thompson in him to hopefully prove the doubters wrong. Will he ever be the defender kaly was at his peak and if he ever is some version of klay does it matter with out a curry on board?

I like what I'm seeing from homesley he might get another contract out of us considering our SG depth.

As someone said, Todd isn't raw he's still mooing. But I still don't hate the pick. Like sure we're there players I would have taken yes. But nowing how deep we were at center and how deep we needed up at PG. Who would you have taken? Yes I know some of you would have taken a PG which there were several or not made the holiday trade at all and used 22 on a guard like springer ( I would agree) but I'll say this. He's got potential, and that could prove useful in a trade or if I juries happen.

I’m just going to generalize with a broad assessment of the draft. This is something very similar to a conversation I had with Kevin Broom several years ago.

The freaking draft is pretty damned arbitrary and there are a lot of things that are so random that the draft is pretty much a crapshoot. There are a number of guaranteed spots and coach’s familiarity lets several players that stick get the nod over other players that are equally talented or even have more potential just based on who got there first. The NBA guaranteed contracts restrict the number of guys that get the opportunity to make a squad.

Roster construction is seriously flawed.

I’m bringing in the players did Tommy shepherd brought in it pretty much nukes the development of young guys like Hachimura and Deni. It is very inevitable that someone will get lost in the minutes shuffle. Davis Bertans? Is Wes Unseld Junior going to play this guy or what?I remember when Fio Saunders came in and totally destroyed the roster that had Eddie Jordan players on it. Same players went from a 40 something win team to a 20 something win team.

As far as I am concerned the wizards could’ve just said give us a player like Ayo Dosunmu or Duarte; and another like Herb Jones or Trey Murphy.

Three things just look at the college statistics and the film … give them a physical … and give them an interview. Don’t even worry about the tryouts i and the team workouts.

Will edit later
