Rui redeemed himself at the end with a couple of 3 pointers (much better arc on his shot).

Positives: his ball handling, confidence and assertiveness have seen a noticeable improvement. He also shot 11 3 pointers!
Negatives: apathetic on the boards (2 rbs) and meh defensively (0 steals). By contrast, Watanabe had 7 boards, 5 seals and 3 assists.

Rui ended with 20 pts, 4-11 in 3pt shots and 8-21 in FGs.

Wait, so what happens now that the US has lost to France? Does that mean they have no chance at gold now?

They have to beat the other two scrub team in the group and they advance to the medal rounda but they have a much harder path.

Rui is about the same caliber player as Kelly Oubre. Not a good starter. Never will be a great player as a PF. He is, just like KO was, good enough to run with other good players. Hachimura hits threes and has spectacular moments but he has no dog in him EXCEPT when he goes against Antetokounmpo.

Rui is meh overall.

Man, Rui had to work for every bucket. That made his game that much more impressive.

But yea Luka wasn't even trying until halfway in. We’re witnessing an all time great in the making.

Rui is potentially a big SF.

I always thought Antawn Jamison could have (also) played SF. Hachimura has bits I Dr J and Kiki Vandeweghe. Tobias Harris is similarly sized. I think Hachimura can SCORE SO WELL that he reminds me of young Rip Hamilton.

Lots of people didn’t appreciate Wizards Rip. Even I for a second thought Courtney Alexander was a better prospect. However, I knew Rip could score WITHOUT DOMINATING THE BALL. He’s a gifted offensive player.

Now, I see that Rui is like a puppy that’s got BIG PAWS.

I just said the other day he’s MEH. Never will be great. Rip Hamilton never was a Vince Carter or a Ray Allen. He is both an NCAA and an NBA champion.

Hachimura has a certain set of skills.

I might prefer Brandon Clarke, Paul Reed, Omari Spellman, etc. But then again I am a Curmudgeon and a hater…sometimes!

But I can easily redirect when I think I’m wrong. I did not see this game but I’m keeping track of the box and I see how royal Chmura works. I’m going to leave that last typo in there because I just don’t feel like correcting my typing from talk to text

If I had to pick one player I would have a hell of a choice between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luca Doncic. Nichola Jokic and Joel Embiid would get hnorable mentions.

Great post, gambitx777!

Meanwhile the USA women 3X3 and Kelce Plum are drinking champagne out the bottle - during their press conference ! — with their gold medals! :-)

Something is horribly wrong with the selection process and who got on these teams men versus women

Like even if you got the top college players or roll out retired cats. D.wade. Mello and agent 0 toss in Trevor ariza, they would have crushed it

I would end up going with the last one I saw. It does come down to Giannis vs Luca, because Jokic's lack of defense for a center hurts, and Embiid hasn't been as durable as Giannis - at the end of close games, Giannis has more energy than Embiid - making plays at both ends. I think in a couple of years, I'll lean toward Doncic as the world's best. Right now I'm biased - it's the champ - Giannis.
