An Abject Lesson from Sam Dekker

Post#1 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Wed Oct 13, 2021 6:07 am

Scoreboard, beeechazz! (Raps vs Wiz box score is all I know about the game so far)

Or words to that affect. :)

Brad Beal and Corey Kispert combine for ____?

Dekker got cut by this team last year or the bubble year before.

Isn’t it OBVIOUS what the lesson is?

If all you go by our the ESPN highlights you might get a jaded view. Kuzma hitting for three pointers in the first half and Montrezl Harrell finishing with those fancy moves, a finger roll, and dunks inside are really encouraging!

Washington was favored by 7.5. They lead at the end of quarters by 8. In the fourth quarter they were out scored 13 points to end up losing by five.

It's a preseason game. There's very little I'd try to take from it. Glad Dekker is taking & making 3s, something he absolutely had to do to make it back to the league but one decent preseason game from him means little.

The entire NBA gave up on Dekker; not just the Wiz. Btw, in the other NBA game, Otto Porter looked real good for GS. Dekker and Otto - both making chump change relatively speaking - might be more productive than the Wiz forwards.

Btw, Jordan Poole looked real good for GS. Look for him to be one of the more improved players in the NBA.

Always nice to see a guy succeed -- & all the more when he comes back from as far down as Sam Dekker was. Hope he keeps it up.

So the lesson is to have a bunch of 6'8" or 6'9" guys with approximately 20' wingspans? I'm not sure how it translates to the regular season but the Raptors have been quietly shutting down perimeter scorers who rely on shooting of some sort all preseason, and without Siakam. If it works, Masai's legend grows.

Speaking of overlooked Sam's, the 2020 last pick in the draft, Sam Merrill - discarded by Milwaukee this offseason - made 11 0f 17 shots including 8 made 3's - scoring 30 points for Memphis on Wednesday.

Dekker and Merrill - the NBA's... Samurais? Hmm, something about them doesn't quite fit that. Must be their height.

Meh, their previous 2 offseasons were terrific, but I wasn't impressed with this one. I think they'll regret trading Jonas V. I thought their picks were questionable. Ziaire Williams at 10 was a risk I wouldn't have taken, and I'm not at all impressed by Sandi Aldama. I do think they got the better of the Samurai Merrill/Grayson Allen trade, but Bucks fans tell me I'm underrating Allen.
