What's the exchange rate on yen?
The Chinese currency continues to be seriously undervalued as part of state economic policy. But who in his right mind would turn down a guaranteed contract that makes him a millionaire in the US to play in China? Singleton deserved to be snubbed if he really did insist on starting or leaving. I just find it hard to believe he or anyone would be so blindly stubborn. But he's a guy who can give a team good minutes as a backup 4 and 5. He rebounds well, played hard on defense, can stretch the defense out a bit. Not a great player, but a very solid role player off the bench. Definitely worth a guaranteed contract that pays him well over one million dollars per season. Hard to believe he and at least on NBA team couldn't come together on that.
I was kidding and got a serious answer. Started to come back with "Those Starbury shoes are inexpensive, Spence."
Honestly, the lockout really served James Singleton well. He wasn't the only guy to ball in China. Since Stephon Marbury, a lot of NBA guys have made the trek to play over there. Wilson Chandler and Kenyon Martin came back and got contracts right away. Aaron Brooks is still on NBA radar. He was a teammate of James Singleton. Turns out a lot of NBA players are making that move.
I think for players 9-12 on a roster, going to play starters' minutes abroad is a good alternative than playing to sit the bench.
Singleton said why he went to China in this link.http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... zards.html"Playing with the Wizards was a great experience," Singleton said when reached by phone. "They gave me a chance to play because of my talent and work ethic, and not sit behind a name. I'm going back overseas to play basketball because of my passion, not the pay or the fame. Overseas, they allow players to play, grow and mature."
