Re: Summer 2012 Free Agents Thread - Part III
I understand your rationale DMV, but I think we should consider taking it a step further and avoid terrible players altogether, disregarding veteran status altogether.
I don't have any particular objection to the Harrellson idea but if we were looking for someone to do a fair James Singleton imitation next year (though Booker seems to increasingly resemble that player) I'd still suggest Marcus Slaughter, who's been easily good enough in the Euroleague and other strong European competition over the past few years to suggest that he'd be a viable NBA player.

I haven't seen him play much, but I saw him in 2010 SL, and he's very talented. He's a great athlete, and showed some point foward skills and can pass w/ flair. Shot still needed work though. On defense, he has prototype size and athleticism. Would be better than signing bad players that have peaked and are only being considered because they're "vets."
I went to Louisville, and am a huge Williams fan. The question with him coming into the league was whether he would mature and act like an adult. He hasn't, and he won't.

James Singleton stats were not anything to come home about before he came to the Wizards. Kind of reminds me of Alonzo Gee and how he performed with the Wizards. I think it's one thing to do it over a shot span of games and to do it over the course of a full season. I think team's game planning for Singleton would hut his effectiveness over the course of an 82 game season. Maybe the lockout shortened season played into his advantage.
Of course, after the Wizards let Ben Wallace go in a sign and trade can make me wary of giving up on anyone too soon.

Good call on Slaughter. Has he developed a good jump shot? I ask, because the ability to hit from outside seemed to make an enormous difference in Singleton's effectiveness. If Singleton had developed that skill when he was younger, he might be a very wealthy man.

WASHINGTON: Similar to the Magic, the Wizards are set with John Wall. But his caddies are Shelvin Mack, whose point guard skills are lacking, and A.J. Price, who cannot shoot and took a step back last season in Indiana. Washington has the roster room and the cap space to add another ballhandler.

I suppose more shooting is always a good thing; plus Redd would provide even more "veteran leadership" - and perhaps act as a tutor for Beal. Still: I don't see what the Wizards could offer that any of the other interested teams couldn't offer, and rest of the teams are all playoff teams and/or contenders.
Apparently no interest from Cavs on Ohio guy Michael Redd, but teams mentioned as possible suitors include the...
Wizards, Nuggets, Grizzlies, Bulls, and yes, Thunder, who still have a spot available in the backcourt after Derek Fisher's departure.
Both Redd and Fisher are unrestricted free agents, and while clearly past their primes, could still help a team looking for shooting and a veteran presence off the bench.
As for Fisher, it would not surprise me to see him end up with the Spurs.

Essentially it's come down to who is willing to sign a minimum deal with the Wizards. Martin and Price did, but Tolliver's agent said that they weren't signing a minimum deal, will Redd or someone else? We will see.

I'll take James Anderson and Josh Harrellson as the last two members of your 2012/13 Washington Wizards...Also, does anyone know what is up w/ Jordan Farmar?...Feel free to cut both Price and Mack and go w/ Farmar backing up Wall if you are listening Ernie (and/or Ted)...

Farmar signed overseas. I believe the Spurs still have rights to Anderson, but I don't see how there is room on the roster.

A lot of Martell Webster chatter on Twitter this afternoon.
And, by a lot, I mean 3-4 tweets in my feed.

Shot it well 2 years ago -- 42% from 3. Last year not so much. Still just 25. Supposedly a super high character kid.

Webster's injury history probably puts him at #1 on the target list.

Would anyone like to get Martell Webster?

If he signs at a bargain price id def take him. I dont know what has slowed his growth, but he isnt a bad player.

I would like to sign him for cheap he give us must needed size at the shooting guard position he's 6 feet 7 he's a decent rebounder and he can hit the long range shot he be a good fit off the bench.

Well Martell Webster doesn't suck. You know he's a shooter and I like that he comes from that Portland team of a few years ago. Those guys really had a nice culture going with hard work and little nonsense from leaders like Roy, Aldridge going down to the 12th man. He can give some minutes at 2 and 3 with a dynamic that only Beal offers on the roster. I actually think it's a good addition if he's signed.

Terrence Williams was also mentioned by Mike Lee. He has talent and would push for major minutes by mid season if his head s on straight....

I would definitely bring in Webster if he's healthy. Decent upside and can shoot the 3, from the SF position.

Re: Summer 2012 Free Agents Thread - Part III
Wolves fan here. I feel bad for Webster. He was a great character guy. Was really pumped when we got him since his shot was so pretty, and usually lit us up. He is a guy that really hasn't put it together on the court, at least from the past couple seasons as a Wolf that I watched. When he speaks abou ball it seems like he knows what he is talking about but he just doesn't seem to do it on the court. Maybe it's his back problems, but he just hasn't seemed to shake them. Both seasons for the Wolves it seemed like we would hear about him coming back healthy after the summer. Then a week or so before the season he would have to have some back surgery. Maybe his back is affecting his game but his production on the court just wasn't there. I don't understand it, a guy with that good looking of a shot and it doesn't go in at a good rate. I do think his back affected his defense a lot when he was here, from what I watched in that second season here it wasn't good. He wouldnt be a bad gamble for one season, in case of injuries. When he came to the Wolves I thought he would be like Redd, turned out they were too similar in the fact that they spent a lot of time in suits.

Looks like the Wizards may be thinking the same thing:

Ariza may be slightly better overall, but I think a healthy Webster would be a better fit. Webster is clearly the better shooter. According to 82games.com he played as much SG as SF with the Twolves. So he might be able to give some minutes there if Crawford is dealt or stinking it up.
