Re: Marcin Gortat Polish Hammer appreciation thread.
I'd offer him any of the following 3 contracts:
2 years, $26M
3 years, $30M
4 years, $36M
I don't see it happening though. EG is going to hear rumors (planted by the Gortat camp) about other potential suitors and will be spooked into offering 4 years, $48M on the first day of free agency.

Re: Marcin Gortat Polish Hammer appreciation thread.
If I was Gortat I would take long-term deal, like 4 years $40 and wait for 2016 roster:
John,
Brad,
Otto,
Kev,
March.

Re: Marcin Gortat Polish Hammer appreciation thread.
I agree with Nate's 3 contracts but I'll repeat what I posted last page -
I heard what seemed to be a well source rumor (for lack of a better term)
that the Wizards have already decided they will NOT be offering him
a contract. Maybe that information is inaccurate. Personally, I think that
decision (if true) is stupid. It changes my whole view of sacrificing the draft pick
to get him. Unless they weave straw into gold by somehow coming up
with another equally or better producing and aged big man. I recognize
we're talking EG here so what are the chances of that happening?

I would say he will agree on $40 mln for 4 years if Wizards really show him they will be a force in the East.
Offense isn't really his problem. He's an above average offensive center. Rebounding (at least defensive boards) is also decent, but against guys like Drummond, Hibbert, Cousins, things are made rather difficult for him. He can hold his own against non physically superior centers. What frustrates me still is the defensive effort, and I only say this cause against PHX I thought he played great defensively, he may actually have a higher gear for defense, but I just think he's kinda going through the motions out there unless he makes it personal. I'd like to see consistent intensity out of him.
I rip on him a lot, prolly more then I should, but most of that is cause I'm dreading the eventual 4 year monstrosity of a contract we're going to offer him. :/
Also to anyone who has watched Gortat his whole career, has he already lost a step athletically or we still waiting on that stone to start rolling...

My salary formula suggests Gortat is worth about $11.3 million this season. That would suggest offers of:
2 years, $22.74 million
3 years, $34.1 million
4 years, $45.4 million
I agree he'll probably end up getting 4 for $48 million.
I like your idea of giving him a per year premium for a shorter contract. Considering his age, I don't think he'd take that. The smart move at 30 is to take the highest total value. There's a reasonable chance this will be his last significant contract -- whether he signs for 2, 3 or 4 years.

I don't think he's lost a step but his defensive effort doesn't appear to be top notch most of the time. He's been a step slow or two on his rotations defensively it seems more often than not. He also seems a bit of a front runner who looks good against inferior competition. He plays better when things are going well and the Wizards are winning. He looks over matched physically and mentally against bigger physical front lines. That's why I say, he's a great backup C. Best in the league arguably. But as a starter? Your going to want an upgrade if your really serious about contending.

I think he is a "starting quality center" but averagely so. I think his net positives and negatives balance each other out and he has a very quiet impact on the game. It'd be interesting to see if he can start scoring 18+ a game now that he's getting more touches. I think if you were to pair him with the likes of a....Serge Ibaka(not easy to find) type player, you could probably get by with it.
But the thing that still bugs me is that he CAN play good defense but he just coasts most of the time. I can only hope, that he realizes he has to amp **** up in the playoffs so he can get paid.
I guess the one saving grace about his future is that his game is NOT predicated on athleticism. I want to root for Gortat but as a veteran whose been gifted the starting not, he needs consistent effort on both ends. I just don't think that it manifests NOW of all times.

Re: Marcin Gortat Polish Hammer appreciation thread.
Yeah I agree on the most things you all said here even the cristisism, but you have to also consider three things when talking about his future contract extension or letting him go.
a) He started his basketball career pretty late so this '30 year old guy' don't really refers to him as much as to other guys at his age;
b) He is very good at keeping his body in a good shape avoiding injuries, actually that which happen at the end of last-season was his real first;
c) He will never be a leader or a first force in any team, but he's a solid piece you add to build something bigger and that's all about it.
If that what dobrojim said is true.. then I don't understand Wizards office and decision of loosing 1st round pick for 1 year player.
On the other hand even as a Pole and a big fan of MG4, I wouldn't give him 48/4yrs. It's too much, there are other positions on the team that needs money to alocate

Re: Marcin Gortat Polish Hammer appreciation thread.
For as much as we get on him (and much of it is deserved criticism), The Polish Hammer threw down a career night and worked the P&R with Wall to perfection.
And he hit his damn free throws down the stretch, too!

He and Wall really worked that PnR and he has some big blocks.
it was Hammer Time tonight. Great effort by him.

While I do like Gortat, the front office is going to overpay him and maybe Ariza as well, then boom stuck at mediocrity with zero chance, unless the Heat blow up.

Barkley just talked about Gortat on Inside the NBA. Said "I watched him in PHX, he's the type of guy who, when he gets on a roll with his own scoring he brings more energy overall"

Gortat is good. We should extend him this summer. Sign Gortat and let Ariza walk and use whatever we have left to find a stretch 4.

After seeing how well Gortat has played these past couple of games just confirms my suspicions that Nene has been holding this offense back. I honestly don't have a problem paying 10m a year for gortat (that's as far as I would go).
The only centers that are obtainable within the next two years that I think are better overall are Monroe (who's going to command max money) and Marc Gasol (who's going to command close to max money)
I'd rather let Ariza walk and save that money for an elite floor spacer or elite ball handler. LMA, Bosh, Klove, KD etc...

Re: Marcin Gortat Polish Hammer appreciation thread.
Gortat has more value to the Wiz than many centers because of his pick and roll proficiency, and the obvious chemistry he's developed with Wall.
Looking at Monroe's shot chart, he's a much worse finisher around the basket than Gortat and has NO range on his jumper whatsoever. Our offense and defense would be worse with him imo. And on a max contract too? Ughh

Yeah I am no longer in favor of pursuing Monroe over Gortat. Gortat is our man. Just resign him.

Re-sign Gortat and try to add either Jordan Hill or Kyle O'Quinn.

We're stuck either way, might as well be stuck being a mediocre playoff team.
With a bit of luck in free agency we may even turn from mediocre to solid 3-4 seed with cap flexibility 3 to 4 years from now.
I'd take that over clearing cap space without being able to bring anybody of consequence on board.
