It was kind of depressing to watch on TV as the crowd became silent with around 10 minutes to go. Seems like Cap fans have PTSD but almost seems like its detrimental for the Caps to have homefield advantage in game 7.

Kornheiser absolutely nailed it years and years ago and its been true ever since. The Caps are choking dogs.

Time to blow things up. I'm sure they won't. They'll let Alzner go and there will be a few cosmetic changes. But this team needs a facelift and it starts with Ovi and ends with Backstrom. One or both should be gone but no way Ted will approve it.

I don't even watch hockey and I know Ovie's always been the problem with that team. He's the "leader" but he doesn't really lead by example. He's basically Kyrie Irving (and I can guarantee you he will never win a chip as THE MAN); he should never be the best player on your team.

Yes, you don't watch hockey.

Ovi is nothing like what you describe. In his younger years, maybe... but he's tough as nails, sacrifices his body, plays hurt, back checks, hustles his tail off.

This year he has finally started to lose some of his speed and flash, but he more than compensated in other aspects of his game.

Ovechkin is not the problem.

He's also the captain and his job is to score goals in the playoffs along with the regular season. All these playoff failures are not due to bad luck and they've gone through a million coaches. Even the players are saying it's time for more than a cosmetic change and some even hinted that while he has injuries, everybody is playing hurt at this time of the season. Probably won't trade him due to many different variables but they should explore every possible option to shake this club up.

Agreed. Ovi isn't the problem this year, although he has been in past years. He's just getting old - that's different than being a problem.

Excellent! Fan of all DC teams, no matter how difficult that has been since Gibbs V.1. Don’t follow Caps much but hope they finally shut Kornheiser’s trap.

To win this game on the road, without Backy and Willy with 6 rookies on the roster is crazy. Tampa is going to be really tough, but i say Caps in 6 again.

Tampa is going to murder these guys.

Maybe Washington makes it close if Backstrom and Burakovsky can get back and play at 100%, but Tampa literally has the best top 9, best top 4, and the best goaltender in hockey. Brayden Point is going to absolutely feast on a matchup against Lars Eller or Travis Boyd.

Uhh what? That was a pretty weak Pittsburgh team that struggled at even strength all season, the monkey on his(not sure why we put all the spotlight and pressure on him, he’s probably the 4th or 5th best player on the caps) and the capitals back is winning a Stanley cup.

Now they have a matchup with the best team in the league to really prove it

Great win, but I can't help but feel like this is probably a year too late.

The Lightning are healthy and they've carried their incredible regular season output into the playoffs.

Don't really see this banged up Washington squad being able to keep up.
