I kind of agree with this. Assuming this was McCloughan's decision, it was a horrific one.

Pick a line, either side. Pick a position, any one. Draft that.

WR was so not our area of need last year.

But it is this year, he was drafted because they expected Jackson and Garcon to leave.

Exactly...that was a prudent draft pick IMO. Doctson, if healthy, will be a very good receiver. I followed his college career...he's in the mold of the best receivers in the league.

I agree that the d-line needed help, but there's only so much you can do in two years when there were holes EVERYWHERE. When SM took the job, the only positions that were filled were QB, WR, TE, LT, RT, DT, and LOLB. Out of a 52 man roster, you had maybe 8-10 viable NFL calibre players. Everyone else was pretty much junk.

It's not a shock that the Redskins suddenly got good when SM took the job. He invested in OL, giving Kurt time to throw. He worked on improving our corners and line rushers, and defensive turnovers and sacks went up. It's not his fault he inherited one of the worst defensive coordinators in league history.

Passing on Williams was what pissed me off. I was fine with Scherff if he was going to be our right tackle, but for him to be a guard pretty much right away was a waste. I know Scherff is good, but he isn't great on the eyetest and our line still gets overpowered at the line of scrimmage--part of why we're ass in the red zone. If you were picking Scherff over a concencus best overall defensive tackle you needed to be damned sure he'd be a tackle.

I disagree with this. Scherf was moved to guard because the interior of the line was GOD AWFUL. One of the worse in the league. He was drafted to be our RT, but with Moses improving enough to be a full-time starter, the coaching staff felt they could move Scherf to the inside where they desperately needed him.

There's a reason Scherf was voted into the Pro Bowl. He's a very good player.

Scherff can play any spot on the line. He's a blue chipper and I think he absolutely passes the eye test. Some of the blocks he can pull off are ridiculous. I'm talking about pulling from the LT to the right C gap on a cut back and he beats the defender to the hole by two steps. The dude is freakishly strong and athletic. And freakishly tough. Outland Trophy winner in a season where he tore his meniscus in the second week, got surgery, and didn't miss a **** game. Missed like two practices.

Scherff is a stud who will get better at Pass Pro as his career progresses. He made his first Probowl this season and is probably going to be a perennial invite and he's still a couple years away from his prime. He's a key part of why our offensive line was so good this season.

It was actually a really smart pick because Garcon and Jackson are both gone now. I would never evaluate draft picks until like 3-5 years later.

It's only a smart pick if the guy actually replaces the production that's now gone which he definitely seems to have the talent to do but also remains to be seen since he I can't seem to get healthy. In terms of need at the time, it definitely was not a smart pick and it basically cost the team as an interior DL would have helped tremendously. Then again that guy could also have had chronic Achilles issues so....

LOL so they're going to hire a TV personality? O...M....F....G.

Well to be fair to Mayock, he is the smartest football analyst on ESPN. But that ain't saying much.

This isn't the first time teams have been interested in him.

This really can't be true due to the horrific line play, especially on the defensive side. It was a bad decision then. The fact that we let our WRs walk when our Front Office was nowhere to be found doesn't change that.

Bruce Allen is an absolute disaster. Cousins in essence said, "Put up or shut up" with the Franchise tag. They did neither. Talk about losing leverage.

He seems like a high risk, high reward choice. NOT something I'm interested in.

Why not get an actual GM with a long track record? Other than the obvious that they may not want to deal with the Allen power fight.

I think the real issue is that the Skins (Allen) don't really want a GM. They just want a "super scout" to handle the draft...and honestly, Mayock kinda fits that mold.

The last time an NFL team hired a TV analyst as GM was when the Lions hired Matt Millen. That worked out great for them.
