I wonder if the bully and bigot in the White House got the message that the good people of Virginia were sending. I kinda hope he didn't.

Even I underestimated the loathing of Trump.
Gotta laugh that Trump wasted no time in turnin on Gillespie for his campaign not fully embracing Trump - even though clearly his ads showed he embraced Trump's views. But Gillespie apparently failed to feed Trump's ego - which is why Trump says Gillespie lost. Trump was right on one thing - Gillespie was a bad candidate and got destroyed by a mediocre candidate in Northam.

Re: Political Roundtable Part XVI
The consensus is that 2018 will be a bloodbath for the GOP.
Basically say hello to Speaker Pelosi.
Honestly, we probably shouldn't be surprised by these results.
It's not like Trump came into office as this beloved figure.
The only reason he's president in the first place is because he ran against another unpopular candidate.
Say Joe Biden had decided to run, Trump would have lost decisively imo.
Heck, I wish Obama could have run for a third term just to hand Trump an EPIC beatdown.
His ego couldn't have taken that.

Clinton lost the election because she lost blue collar swing voters in PA, WI, and MI. IMO she lost those voters because they couldn't stand her.
Yes, there were blue collar swing voters who voted against Clinton because they couldn't stand her. (Not sure what these voters had against HRC to the point that they couldn't stand her.) But she also lost a lot of these votes simply because she was a woman.
However, I think the chief reason Hillary lost those votes and states was because Trump promised this utopian (and unrealistic) vision of a return to the good old days of plentiful manufacturing jobs. Some of these voters were also turned on by Trump's appeal to their racism and fears of the other (i.e. Latino and Muslims).
Those are union voters. The unions died a natural death from globalization and the dems abandoned them. I’m sure they could have gotten over their distaste for her if she hadn’t tuned them out.

I don't think it was necessarily losing voters to Trump specifically that was her issue. Her issue was that she lost voters who simply didn't vote. And I also don't feel it was so much about what she did, but what she didn't do that was her problem. I mean, we can talk about perfect governance until we're blue in the face, but the reality is that democracy isn't voting on competence whether you feel Hillary or Trump or any particular candidate was/is competent or not. You NEED to motivate people who might vote for you to actually vote, and Hillary was much, much worse at that in particular than Obama, for example. Honestly, if Virginia is any indication, Trump is actually better at motivating would-be Hillary voters to vote than Hillary is herself.

He is a motivating force
I think Rs see this coming - there is nothing they can do now. Kind of like a huge wave you see coming and you can't get out of the way. The destruction will be epic.

History is not Falwell's strength (it wasn't his father's strength either). Evidence is that founders intended DC to be separate mainly to have a separate police force, not beholden to any state, to protect Federal interests. He (or someone else) basically made up alternate facts to fit a narrative.
It's a good bet that if called on regarding the annexing of, what...Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax...and of course Montgomery and Prince Georges counties...he would not support DC Statehood, adding an uninformed opinion on that subject to his general ignorance of history. So switch 3.5 million largely Democratic voters to a District with no Congressional voting representation? Conservatives now eyeing state level gerrymandering as a means to maintain power.

Seems like congressional Republicans should feel more empowered to break from Trump at this point. If/when the tax cut legislation fails, there will be an exodus from Trump imo

Democracy is on fire right now and you are holding a can of gasoline in your hands. Are you going to help us put out the fire now?
Sure. I’ll help. If Mueller and his team of 15 experienced prosecutors find something criminal involving Trump I’ll advocate for impeachment. We’ll see what they come up with.
Fair enough. Although I don't think they'll find anything. It's an entertaining sideshow but I'm pretty sure if Trump had actually colluded he would've blurted it out by now. Dude has no discipline.
Although maybe he's guilty of obstruction of justice. Maybe Mueller wants to set a precedent - don't ever fire an FBI director in the middle of an investigation again. You will be impeached.
Trump already blurted out that he fired Comey because of the Russia investigation. But yeah, may end up in a no impeachment especially with a Republican Congress.

And you're telling us exactly who you are pointgod and it's not a pretty picture. A piece of unsolicited advice if I may - give those with differing viewpoints the same respect and consideration that you and every other American deserves.
Supporting the type of overt racism and divisive reheotic that Trump/Bannon peddle goes beyond having a different viewpoint. It's a morally bankrupt, hateful tactic that only continues to sink you lower as a nation.
I don’t know if it’s helpful or not but my two cents FWIW. Many of us who voted for Trump despise him as a person but the alternative was even more distasteful to us. I don’t endorse his behavior or tactics but policy wise and with regard to judicial appointments I’m reasonably satisfied with his direction. By the same token, I don’t blame you and others for pointing out his shortcomings. I would have voted for Democrat Jim Webb over Trump but I wasn’t given that choice.
If you voted for Trump you gotta own it, you paid for the cable package and everything that comes with it. You fooled yourself into believing that Hillary Clinton would be just as bad or worse than Trump. A lot of people did, but you had a choice to either leave the top of the ballot blank, vote for Hillary or just stay at home. Trump embodies the worst characteristics of Americans and people in general and by electing him you've indicated that's what you want in a President. Trump admitted to sexual assault, he insulted a gold star family, he indicated he would jail his political opponents, he had white supremacists at his rallies and encouraged attacks on people and the media. All of this was BEFORE he was elected. I'm just wondering if federal judge appointments and a couple extra dollars is worth all the damage Trump is doing now and in the future. The Trump/Bannon ideology is dragging politics to below the dirt and I can't understand why Republican voters support Trump type politics.

No, I get why people voted for Trump. I don't agree with it but I understand it.
"I hate all you jerks. I'm voting for whoever promises to go in and kick as much ass as possible." And he's doing it. He's being a bull in a china shop and that's what his mandate was.
I think Bernie would've done it in a more useful way but I have to admit I'm biased.

Re: Political Roundtable Part XVI
woah Brotato Chips,
The fix was in from the get go. This whole russian coax was a set up from jump street. Take a guess at who set up who?
"breaking:" Mueller investigation reveals that the exact same "russian" operatives that mets with Donald trump Jr. for 25 minutes had extensive same day meeting with Fusion GPS."
So, the DNC at this point had already hired fusion GPS for opp research on trump. meets with the exact same russian operatives. Fusion GPS also hires Steele who hires russian operatives to do opposiiton research on Trump. and some of those operatives they hired that met with Don trump Jr. also held "extensive" meeting with the exact same russian operatives on the day.
You can't play it any dirtier that the DNC and HRC palyed it in 2016.
meanwhile Donna Brazile is not backing down. at all. on MSNBC today agina speaking about primary being rigged and unfair and unethical.
Tom Perez, current DNC chair, today finally admitting: " the DNC did put its best foot forward in 2016, and because of that we have gaps of trust gaps...I know that we have more work to do...making sure the 2020 election cycle is fair to everyone. We fell short on that in 2016."
