last week I saw a post on FB from a childhood friend who has been off the deep right wing end of
things for a while.

It basically accused Fauci of being a Billionaire who has become rich by forcing the vaccines
on everyone and whined about how we're getting this emergency use vaccine shoved down
our throats (metaphorically). I actually took the extraordinary step of reporting his post,
something which I have never done before.

Make no mistake, I'm sure Fauci is a wealthy man by normal standards but for someone
who has done what he's done and had the authority he's had for running an entire Institute
within NIH, his income was modest by private sector standards, even with the physician's
comparability allowance that is a nice supplement to the standard GS or SES salary scale
income he makes. The shyt you hear about this guy is simply unbelievable.

The problem that they have is that Trump was an epic failure when it comes to Covid. Bleach, unmasked superspreader events, Chloroquine, natural immunity, screwing up on PPE distribution, being a major driver of the infodemic worldwide, etc., etc., etc..

Now that they lost and are forever tied to Trump, they will just dig their heels in even more and try to justify his EPIC failure in response to Covid and try to shift the blame.

The problem they have is that the only way to shift the blame it to continue with the disinformation infodemic. That in turn is getting their group to not vaccinate - it will be interesting to see how that ages.

I heard Biden is pulling the US out of Afghanistan?

Or was that Trump? Oops my bad, his was the $740.5 billion military proposal.

Right now, there are lots of conspiracies and hearsay but not much else.

I didn’t realize I posted the same link that you did. Yeah there’s a huge logical leap between saying:

1. Someone who worked at the Wuhan lab got covid as it was spreading throughout the local population
2. The lab was studying Covid and there was a lab leak and that’s where it originated (you can already start seeing why this theory becomes ridiculous)
3. They were experimenting with animals who were covid vectors (again borderlining on the ridiculous)
4. Covid was invented in a lab in Wuhan as a bio weapon and it somehow got unleashed on the world ( )

Of course TGW posts the most disingenuous and frankly idiotic interpretation.
I think the bigger issue is that China is clearly hiding something. They're in a position to squash that theory if it isn't true but they haven't. Doesn’t make the theory true but it does suggest something was going on there that China would rather not have become general knowledge. I do think there are a lot of military experiments that people think ridiculous that happen before the military realizes the obvious. I don't see a lot of value in projecting guesses as fact. I do see a lot of value in asking questions of the CCP.

They may be hiding something or they may simply be reflexively resistant to anyone outside
of the country looking at them in any way that might reflect poorly on them. Either
one of these is completely plausible. I certainly don't know myself and I reflexively
dismiss people who try to pretend they do know, especially people with a clear agenda.

Definitely. I dismiss people who approach issues like this without an open mind. It's just that the same logic I use to dismiss people who are making obviously racist and hate-filled claims tends to be similar to the logic I use when dismissing people who pretend like there probably isn't a problem at all when there obviously is.

The thing is, I have no idea if it's a lab leak or not but there is sewer evidence from Europe and across the world that covid was spreading way before March when the alarm was sounding. Actively trying to prevent an investigation into what happened that might actually help in dealing with problems in the future comes across very similarly as the police telling us to trust them since they investigated the issue of all the bodycams malfunctioning at one and it was exactly as they say it is having revised their story a few times.

It wouldn't even have to be a lab leak. It's pretty clear at this point China definitely has something involving chemical or biological weapons in the area they don't want to admit to. The US has all that stuff too. It might just be really, really bad luck on China's part. But these are questions that can we can only begin to try to answer with China's help and they're refusing it. We shouldn't be jumping to conclusions but being naive about it is a dangerous game.

One wonders how soon the indictment(s) of the Trump Org will happen.
My guess is pretty soon.

ok, but we have people for this. it's above all of our paygrades to try and be armchair spies. it's even above investigative journalists' paygrades. getting to the bottom of the origins of covid is actual spycraft with world-altering diplomatic and global economic consequences.

plus, even if China did make covid, no one can held them accountable anyway. they're too powerful. the same as the US gets to do whatever it wants (hoard vaccines for itself, fight "wars on terror" on other sovereign nations' soil spanning decades, unilaterally impose economic sanctions and trade wars, flout carbon reduction agreements) without any external accountability.

the only ones that can even begin to try and hold the Chinese government accountable are the people, the same with the US. China needs to democratize (as does the US, tbf).

Comrade Bonscott - welcome to the thread and thank you for the Russian hardline disinformation campaign. Please follow with a post about how Americans should also not get vaccinated. Do not forget the post about how we should expand our usage of fossil-fuels (and we need Russian pipelines).

Reminder - please propagate information about how Trump was a genius and his relationship to Putin was straight in the countries best interests.

Go Reds! I'm thinking of moving to Cincinnati. Can sell this house and get basically twice the house in the neighborhoods where my friends live in Cinci.

Also both of my kids living in Boston right now.

Speaking of Russian pipelines: https://apple.news/A5chGCXivRXylbdvuabbzMw

Even CNN, who slobs Biden’s knob every night, couldn’t help but call out his lackey on this one lol. Imagine the pearl clutching if this were Trump.

Pretty much. Beautiful countryside, beautiful people. Lots of good banjo players to learn from. Although Kentucky has more whisky distilleries to tour.

ok but why are GOP pols objecting ("Bash quoted a Republican's criticism of Biden's handling of the issue")? don't they love Russia and want to replicate Russian oligarchy in the US?

also would like to note that the response was not to decry CNN as the enemy of the people but to respond in, well, reasonably good faith to the questions being asked

Maybe I shouldn’t make this confession publicly but I bought a banjo
back in March and am slowly learning.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
