The big win here for the Wizards is their acquisition of Morris, who should immediately slot in as the team's starting point guard.

Not liking this if that is the case - Morris/Beal would be a huge defensive liability, IMO.

The argument isn't that KCP is better than Barton, it's that KCP fits better next to Murray, Porter Jr and Jokic than Barton does. KCP spaces the floor and plays defense. Barton needs the ball in his hands.

If that's it as far as addressing the PG position is concerned, color me unimpressed with the move.

I am not buying Morris as a starter either, so who knows, maybe Shep will pull a rabbit out of his ass.

KCP will be a good fit with Jokic. Good luck to him he played well for us.

Barton is definitely a chucker which is surely why Denver wanted him gone.

The only way he can "salvage" this is to have Beal move to PG with Morris being his backup.

Have Davis start as the SG with Kispert or Barton as his backup.

One thing I like about this trade is that we maintain a very tradeable piece in Barton. If we make a consolidation trade, we are going to need vet rotational players on expiring deals (Barton & Kuz) along with a pick or prospect (Rui).

Tommy might have just felt this was the best option for now and we keep our powder dry in case an opportunity presents itself

My quick calcs put us at 60M under the Lux tax. Max Beal, Davis, and Gill puts us at ~10M under the tax with 13 players on the roster. We can use the MLE to put as 14, but right at the Tax line.... interesting to watch.

Morris will be fine as a short term starter. Doesn’t defend well, but doesn’t turn the ball over and is a good game manager. Also solid from 3.

If I'm Wes Jr., I'll have Davis playing some point guard in SL as well as 2 and 3. Let's face it. With Beal going to be around for awhile, he's going to need to learn to play several positions. We need to start thinking D first, offense second at this moment.

What would make you think that?

This year, Barton used about 1.25 more offensive possessions than KCP per 40 minutes. Is that what you mean by "a chucker?"

Of course, he also got about 1.5 more rebounds than KCP, so he increased team possessions sufficiently to more than make up for the extra 1.25 he used. Plus he posted @ 1 more point than KCP. So, overall, a slight advantage to Barton.

In fact, overall this year KCP & Barton were very close but with a slight advantage to Barton. On their overall careers, it's even closer, but Barton still has a slight edge. Really, there's not enough difference between these two guys to matter -- especially since they are both expiring veterans who make essentially the same money.

If the trade had been the two of them & no more it would have been like trading a dollar bill for 4 quarters. It's the rest of the trade that matters!

& from that POV, we just acquired a solid young veteran for, essentially, nothing. & he is signed for the next 2 years at a very reasonable price given his production.

IMO we are a meaningfully better team today than we were yesterday. If I had to quantify it, I'd say we just got about 4-5 wins better. Don't get me wrong -- we still suck. But at this point I don't think we are worse than last year. We might even be a little bit better.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Washington is finalizing a trade to acquire Denver’s Will Barton and Monte Morris for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith, sources tell ESPN. Yossi Gozlan: Wizards need to throw in another small salary to have this trade executed before the end of June. Doing so would allow Denver to generate a $15.6M trade exception by sliding Ish Smith into the $8.2M JaMychal Green trade exception.

Isaiah Todd :D

If there's a benefit for Denver, then they have to pay something for the benefit -- say a R2 pick next year. Nothing is free.

Big divide in here between the people who have seen a lot of Barton and those who haven't - maybe we see those perceptions reconciled if Thrill ever suits up for us. I will say that KCP is an absolutely perfect fit for the role needed in Denver, even if we probably got a little more out of the trade in pure value.

PIF is probably gonna like this trade. He’s a fan of Morris.

Just took a quick look at Barton’s numbers. Better all-around baller than KCP, especially rebounding and assists. Of course, KCP is better on D.

You were right -- :) -- as I've made clear by now!

Between KCP & Will Barton, honestly, there's not enough difference to make a difference. Plus, since they're both expiring, really it couldn't matter less. Above all, I assume we'll make a strong effort to move Barton at the deadline (& would have to move KCP), & I don't think there's much difference between what the two guys might bring.

Definitely a plus trade for us.

Apparently there might be more there like tood or a second what ever to help the paper work but I love the trade.

Barton is only on a one year deal and he's a nice trade ballist and I like Morris a lot he filled in really well for Murray and I think that's a really nice trade. I wouldn't be mad if we just rolled with him and gave a hard look at a kid like Dotson in summer league. He's playing for summer league but nothing says we can sign him to some king of deal come fa.

If we send Carey in a trade that's fine we have Jordan Enrique ! Who had a good year in summer league and deserves a shot.

I'd love to hear your reasons for thinking so. Have you compared their numbers this season? Or over their careers?

If Morris and Beal are the starting backcourt - I would give this trade a D-. Then again, Morris would be fine for a 9 or 10 seed - maybe.
