What would make you think that?
This year, Barton used about 1.25 more offensive possessions than KCP per 40 minutes. Is that what you mean by "a chucker?"
Of course, he also got about 1.5 more rebounds than KCP, so he increased team possessions sufficiently to more than make up for the extra 1.25 he used. Plus he posted @ 1 more point than KCP. So, overall, a slight advantage to Barton.
In fact, overall this year KCP & Barton were very close but with a slight advantage to Barton. On their overall careers, it's even closer, but Barton still has a slight edge. Really, there's not enough difference between these two guys to matter -- especially since they are both expiring veterans who make essentially the same money.
If the trade had been the two of them & no more it would have been like trading a dollar bill for 4 quarters. It's the rest of the trade that matters!
& from that POV, we just acquired a solid young veteran for, essentially, nothing. & he is signed for the next 2 years at a very reasonable price given his production.
IMO we are a meaningfully better team today than we were yesterday. If I had to quantify it, I'd say we just got about 4-5 wins better. Don't get me wrong -- we still suck. But at this point I don't think we are worse than last year. We might even be a little bit better.
