I also found it sad that his teammates were surprised he was such a good passer.

I'm not surprised, since I've seen Gil when he goes into a passing mode be a really good passer. You remember the few games every year where he just focused on passing, and Buckhants would be like "WOW".

BTW, I'm sorry but I can't believe you actually analyzed his Kobe story, the fact that you took it seriously and approached it psychologically is kind of weird.

From Ivan's chat today.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 02514.html

Takoma Park, Md.: Ivan, how far is Gilbert from being in game shape? Has he gotten any of his explosiveness back yet? Your blog is great -- it's the first thing I read every day.

Ivan Carter: It's hard for me to really give you a solid feel for where Gilbert is because we see so little of practice. He's practiced three times now (including today). Now, when I saw him playing games of one-on-one before games or at the end of some practices in recent weeks, he didn't look like a guy ready for game action to me. I never saw him explode off of that left leg or even jump off of it. I saw a guy shooting a lot of jumpers and otherwise playing around a bad leg. Until I see more, it's hard to imagine that we are going to see the old Gil this season.
Just let the young boys play! It's truly the only hope at this point.

Well like Dat always says, Ivan Carter won't confirm Gil is playing until Gil is actually on the floor playing. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know Gil has the possibility of playing tomorrow.

Sounds just like the Gil from the beginning of the season. I had been wanting him to come back soon... but the team was terrible early and would be so again if Gil is playing on one leg.

Per Ivan's blog today, it sounds like Gilbert is done for the year based upon Ivan's description of how Gilbert was playing. Gilbert should NOT attempt a comeback during the playoffs.

Seriously, Caron & Gilbert should be shut-down for the remainder of the season, play the rooks, and see where we end up in the lotto. Why should we
limp into the playoffs with a hobbled team risking further injuries?

Are you crazy? We're one game behind .500 and our All Star forward is just about to come fully healthy and you want to tank...

btw Ivan saw Gilbert on meaningless one on ones after practice. Why would a player coming back from injury go all out on that?

What Ivan has reported on Gil gives no indication on Gilberts status. Until anyone sees him in practice, no one will know.

If Gilbert's not hurting, he shouldn't sit. It's going to take him a while to get his explosion and comfort level back, but just sitting isn't going to do it. And unless you know something the Wiz docs don't (gulp) on Caron, he should play. I don't want to see a repeat of last season's playoffs - with no Gil and no Caron - unless it's really necessary - which doesn't seem to be the case... hopefully.

The one bit of footage on Gil at practice came on CSN SportsNet about a week ago. The voice over said Gil looked great in practice, but the footage showed him running sprints at the end... he was definitely favoring the left leg and was wearing a knee brace that would do all of us over-the-hill weekend warriors proud.

Of course, he's so quirky, you never know. Did you hear him tell Cheryl Miller that he had planned to make a surprise appearance tonight? I guess I had been secretly hoping that that would happen.

According to Gil on TNT he wanted to play last night but the doctors held him out at the last minute. He also said that the plan is to test the knee before the upcoming West Coast trip, which starts in March 30th in LA. Here are the games leading up to the trip:

3/15 vs LAC
3/17 vs ATL
3/19 @ ORL
3/21 @ MIA
3/23 vs DET

(One thing to note is that none of these games are back-to-back so he'll be able to rest between games.)

My guess is that he would want to come back at home and that the team would want him to get some sort of rhythm before letting him play on the WC. That tells me that it's gonna be either Saturday or Monday because they are home games and that would give him a few games under his belt before LA on the 30th.

All health issues aside, looking at the schedule, I'd like to see him come back for the Orlando game. To me, that is the most "throw away" game up there. It's probably the least winnable and therefore would be a good opportunity for us to play him back into the rotation w/o sacrificing a probable win. His second game back, once the jitters are gone and roles a bit more defined, is against Miami. We should win that one.

(Side note: I love to hear myself say that: Miami on the road, we should win that)

According to Comcast Sportsnet, Arenas is having an MRI on Tuesday. Uhm, why?
