Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
which waived big would be a better use of a roster spot for the Wiz
in the absence of Okafor?
I see MIA just waived Varnado...no idea if he is any good or just lost
a numbers battle in MIA.

Yeah, thats a bit much. I thought Hayward would get $40 million.

Agree on Favors' potential. Now that he'll be getting steady minutes I think we're going to see why he was the #3 pick in the draft after only one year at Ga. Tech. He's light years better than both McGee and D. Jordan, imo.

The Nets gave up quickly on Favors. The Utah Jazz got the rights not only to Derrick Favors, but also two other picks that turned into Enes Kanter and Gorgui Dieng; in exchange for sending Deron Williams to New Jersey.
It will be interesting to see if Favors blows up this season. It seems like Utah might have made a decent deal, considering they weren't winning anything with Deron Williams in Utah. The young talent they have now might form a competitive team for years to come.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
I like Favors' potential too. He's definitely getting the "promising youngster" premium, but it's very reasonable for Utah to "wager" that Favors will become more efficient and reduce his fouling as he gets older, stronger and more experienced.
In my doppelganger machine, the "most similar" are a 21-year old Vlade Divac, Nene (22), and LaSalle Thompson (22). Some others: Gheorge Muresan, Pervis Ellison (age 23), Stromile Swift. I don't think Favors will be as fragile as Muresan or Ellison, and I don't think his hoops IQ is as low as Swift's was.

Ed Davis will be an interesting case. Seems like a solid, but not spectacular player. He also hasn't been used much by the Grizzlies. It seems like letting the market set his price would make more sense for the team.

I hear gordon hayward might get 12 mil a year...that is asinine. The guy is an excellent role player, but he should be getting jeff green money tops. He's not a high end 2nd option, so why pay him like one.

Gorgui Dieng could have helped right now. Just one of the bigs we could have had with a late pick.

I see MIA just waived Varnado...no idea if he is any good or just lost
a numbers battle in MIA.
Varnado was a great college shot-blocker who just didn't have an NBA body. Pass.
Don't know if NYN is going to cut Aldrich, but they haven't been playing him, so there's an indication. Reportedly, they're disappointed in his lack of aggression. He'd be a solid pickup for a waiver-wire guy. Or they could cut Jeremy Tyler, who has down the road potential but may have off-court issues.

Grunfeld's mishandling of Gilbert Arenas's knee injury, serves as an example to other teams, to do the exact opposite of how the Wizards handled Gilbert. Proceed very cautiously with players who have suffered potentially career-ending injuries. Rose was kept-out a year, Noel will be kept on a year. Sure make more sense than playing a returning player 35-40 minutes a night coming off of knee rehab like what the Wizards did.

Why rush back a kid to play less than half the season with no training camp when winning isn't the major priority anyways? Philly is playing for 14-15, not this year.

LOL. There are things to pin on EG but Gil's rehab isn't one of them. Gil blow his rehab. Gil brought guns in the locker room. Gil shoulder the blame for Gil.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 3
I haven't taken a poll hands, but I think you're in the minority thinking EG is blameless there. People here were routinely asserting that Arenas was coming back too fast, and I doubt many have changed their positions on that. Shouldn't the GM be making decisions about that? Isn't he in charge of that?
Not sure what the guns have do with that, other than to further illustrate Arenas' questionable judgment. Why would EG defer to that?

I don't think we get a roster spot for an injured player, do we? We have 15 guaranteed.
So unless we waive Singleton, or feel so desperate that we waive Temple (?), no room for another player.
I doubt Ernie will waive Singleton -- he doesn't usually make moves that reveal his own ineptitude. He'll find a way to include him in a trade sometime, and let the receiving team waive him.
Of course to do that he'll have to give the receiving team some incentive -- iow give away more than he should in the trade overall. But, hey, that's better than admitting a mistake, right?

You mean that all those bad moves were really just covering up mistakes? Wow, EG's smarter than I thought.
