Re: Andray Blatche - Resurgence Thread ( Merged )
meh as long as he's doing the right thing. The thing that stands out for me when I read the "I have to make changes" article is that atleast he's getting rid of those around him who are not helping him and making a change on an environmental level. Also has the trainer and the masseuse. For me I think it's not going to be about whether he gets phenomenal numbers, It'll be about leadership which he's learning from, it's about initiative which he is taking. The thing which will possibly limit the results is his health i.e the shoulder.
I know he's talented but whether he can put it together will be a mental and health thing. Mentally he's getting there. Healthwise is questionable. Good thing he's not playing these meaningless games. You don't see Tim Duncan, KG, gasol doing these playground runs and I don't think Blatche should either. So by not doing so he is becoming a mature player. HOw man times did we see gil come off an injury then aggravate it playing full out in the summer?
last year we expected Blatche of late in the previous season. He got injured and we knew our expectations had to be lowered and yet when he didn't produce as much as we wanted to we got angry. At 16 points 8 rebounds at the very least Blatche will be the first big off the bench which is very valuable. He can pass the ball and used to be able to block shots. Passing the ball for a big man is a rare and valuable skill. He's a keeper. Its just up to his efforts and health whether he will start or not. To me he is the lamar Odom of this squad.

and that explains perfectly why we were one of the worst 4 teams
in the assoc and the Lakers were one of the best 4 (or so).

Re: Andray Blatche - Resurgence Thread ( Merged )
I totally agree with BruceO. Andray would be a fine Lamar Odom-type player. Andray's passing is better and Lamar's the better rebounder and defender. Blatche is a more versatile scorer. Overall, Andray is a good NBA player. He would make a fine Lamar Odom on the Wizards, were that his role.
Problem is, Flip Saunders seems to think Andray is a KG/Pau type player. He is not.
I think the best thing the Wizards could do would be to trade Blatche to a team like Boston or Orlando, for picks and a players in return.

In just about the most bizarre thing I could have expected, I checked Dray's Twitter page to see if he was up to anything. Tried to follow him but it said that he's blocking me. That means he had to single me out as someone he didn't want following him (and he has almost 9000 other followers) which is incredible, given that I'm one of his biggest supporters.
FWIW, I have never been blocked on Twitter by anyone before and I've been using the service for years.

Blatche is a much sloppier passer and is not a more versatile scorer - because he's got much poorer shot selection. Overall, Blatche's poor decisions make him a far inferior player to Odom.

Re: Andray Blatche - Resurgence Thread ( Merged )
I hope he has a good year because I traded Dwight Howard for him in a keeper league.
(didn't look like I could keep Dwight and Blatche was the best deal I could get)
It saddens me to come and read this thread though. When I traded for him I was getting a top 25 player who was only 25 years old. (It's 5 cat) Reading this it looks like I traded for a 25 year old kid who's a waste of oxygen and will likely regress every year in the league.
Maybe I should stop playing in keeper leagues.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Agreed. I have never gotten the fascination with Blatche's supposed "skills". In addition to Ruz's comments about passing and shot selection, Odom is also a much better ball handler than Blatche (who basically only has that horrible behind the back dribble that I hate). If Blatche attempted to play an Odom-type role, the only part of the box score he'd stuff would be turnovers. He's a bum.

Yeah, it is a different league. He was set to become a free agent, and I was set to lose him to free agency. So, I had to sell him for pennies on the dollar or accept losing him for nothing.
I choose to take pennies on teh dollar. And Blatche was ranked #21 in our league (pts/reb/blk/stl/ast) and was only 25 or so.
Seemed like a pretty good option considering the corner I was backed into. But, when I read this thread it doesn't look very rosy.

Last year was his first year as a full-time starter. So because he has one down year where he's riddled with injuries makes you think he's going to keep regressing? RIIIGHT.
(Sorry, I know you're not a Wizards fan, so you don't keep tabs on the team, but I'm just frustrated from all the ridiculous comments I see on this board).

7-Day Dray you talking about yourself?
I don't take Blatche serious and in case you couldn't tell I was making a joke. Blatche is a joke.

Dray seems to get it now. He is much more serious. He realizes what didn't work. He is going to focus on the fundamentals of his position and the pts will come.
I think he is going to make a come back after an injured year last year. I have posted plenty that Dray hasn't had a team made up of this many serious characters. This team has gone throw total upheaval since he has been here. I think with his age (25), experience of what doesn't work and new teammates, I like his chances to product solid this year and take that step in maturity.
A great serious of videos if you watch them through.
Singleton is really impressive.
McGee seems like he hasn't recovered from the Cinnamon buzz.

I'll believe it when I see it. Dray said the same crap last year with his "7 Day Dray" stuff. People blame his problems on his injury last year, but just this week Dray admitted that he didn't play defense and was lazy at times last year. Moreover, the trainer that has been working with him recently was quoted as saying that he has not seen consistent effort from Dray until as recently as Ocotober of this year. If Dray said that he was going to be 7 Day Dray before and did not live up to his promises, why do people believe him now? I'm tired of Dray saying he has matured and will be taking a more serious approach to the game...just show it.
