Isn't it a combo of that, and basic history. These peoples have been there since at least the Bronze age collapse and I think probably longer (sounds like at least the Jewish people were 1500-2000 BCE, so I imagine Palestinians as Genetic relatives would have likely shared Canaan, latest research seems to suggest that they basically were at one point conquered by Egypt, and then eventually used the Bronze Age Collapse situation (Drought, Earthquakes, Sea Peoples Attacks, City States falling, Trade Routes collapsing) as an opportunity to get their independence back.....
Basically these peoples as far back as we can historically trace, were just there, natives to the Eastern Mediterranean, and Canaan in particular. Considering they share common ancestors, they must have both lived there going back far enough and eventually there's a split, whether the religious stories are accurate or not, the DNA data definitely is.....
So I don't really care about the God Angle, as much as its motivating, if you believe land can't be stolen (even though it clearly can and has always been) then it belongs to both of them period, except when empires are strong enough to seize it for themselves, in which case they lose said territory (like the Romans, or the Ottomans or the Abbasids etc).
We can live in a world where they figure out how to share it, or in a world where only the powerful rule, its basically up to the people there, and so far, the powerful have won out and the arguments of the peaceful, or at least least violent, have been quashed or outright killed (like on October 7th, like in the West Bank etc, and whateve minority in Gaza was anti-Hamas, getting those #'s accurate is incredibly difficult).
