Still, I would have liked to the Wizards to try to get someone. Or even get some sort of future considerations like a conditional second round pick.

Yep.

Then too GMEG coming out discussing how we got Marcin Gortat instead puts all of the power in the hands of Gortat's agent. Effectively Ernie HAS to overpay him, no matter who offers him a deal, to keep him at all costs. Ok everybody understood this as soon as we traded for the guy, but to underline highlight it and put it in bold is just bassackwards negotiating tactics. Basically Ernie has only two cards left: 1) pay him all the moneys (and let Ariza go, because you know 'basically we have Otto Porter as if he were another rookie' coming in) and 2) beg him to stay pleeease pleeease, never mind Marc Cuban or Pat Riley or the Lakers or whomever, pleeeeeease stay with us, pleeease.

Draft night always makes me hollow with this regime. But at this point I have low expectations, haven't posted in this thread much you'll see. Never bothered to look anyone up in the metaphysics, Dat never did his tiers, etc. The apathy is resounding.

The Wizards have became a destination franchise ..... for Summer Camp invites.

The Wizards have 7 players under contract. Even if you assume that Ariza, Gortat, Booker and Gooden will be back. That still leaves 2 active roster spots and 4 total. Even figuring someone is signed at the MLE, that leaves 3 spots for rookies.

If the Wizards expect to be near the luxury tax, a 2nd rounder actually helps because they are owed less money than the vet minimum.

I feel the Wizards are doing their part by quickly bringing guys in.

Looks like they're quickly bringing in giant pieces of crap to me.

I'd rather have Burton than Jordan Clarkson.

There is no reason not to have both, or at least use Summer league to take a look at both of them.

Mike Prada wrote a pretty good and important piece on why selling this pick sucks. Here: http://www.bulletsforever.com/2014/6/27 ... 14-whyyyyy

The one piece we don't know is what the extra money in the operating budget (and that's where I think it goes) does. There's a potential return associated with that investment.

Selling the pick is completely defensible if every player selected from 46-60 turns out being completely valueless -- never gets included in a trade as a sweetener, never makes and NBA roster, etc, So, in all likelihood, selling the pick is in fact completely indefensible.

We have the WORST media covering the team. Our local reporters are Clueless.

(Well Michael lee seems a ton more skeptical of EG on Twitter, but he's more of a beat reporter, so he tries to be objective and doesn't let his personal feelings out there when he writes. To be fair, he does constantly lambast the organization for failing to develop young players and openly questions why pick Porter if you had Ariza & Webster).

Mike Wise (an utter bafoon) is an EG fanboy, and you know he won't write ANYTHING negative about the FO. Jason Reid, who has been a critic at times, is such a poor writer, that any criticisms are lost in his own prose.

This forum, and some of the BF writers are only source of EG frustration.

Why wouldn't ANY of the reporters at the press conference ask why "cash" is better than taking a chance? Why not ask maybe your initial scouting could be wrong?

Bwahaha, of course Grunfeld sold the pick.

Didn't get a chance to absorb anything draft related last night and then come here to find that our front office, as usual, couldn't be bothered.

I'm guessing that their signing of him is just for the Summer League team, at this point - until/unless we hear anything different.

Jarnell Stokes
Dwight Powell
Johnny O'Bryant

Interesting they were looking at Powell.

Well at least they got Deonte Burton at PG if they want him.

Khem Birch went undrafted. He was a Wizards tryout invite.

So, the 6 they're looking at are Birch, Burton, Christon, Alec Brown, Nick Johnson, and Massenat. That's a good group. Nick Johnson's a tweener guard, but if he can develop his PG skills better, he can be a nice 3rd guard in the NBA. He seemed like a better player than his stats show - particularly his 36.8 3 point percentage - he's got great range. He was a leader for a very good AZ team, but has to deal with making the killing turnover in the 1 point loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament.

So the Wizards sold their pick for cash? I'm shocked, shocked that EG would do such a thing. Oh wait, nevermind, that's why I didn't watch the draft. I expected he'd do that.

Grant and Danny are trashing the Wizards on 106.7 as we are here for again selling a 2nd round pick.

I think if you get another high caliber(relatively speaking) undrafted player to come to summer league and sign one, then you can really view that as our 2nd. Also, 2M is nothing to sneeze at for a late 2nd.

Again, EG sucks balls...but just keep perspective.

Thanks FAH,
I try to stay fairly medium here and not be overly optimistic, nor pessimistic. So I know Im going to piss some people off and say that the people bashing EG are almost as bad as the fan boys. Burton is a legit player who I would have been ecstatic to get at 46. EG got a great value and 2 Million dollars. I have a hard time being upset...
