I've been taking Ozempic for a month and I have lost about 8 lbs. I gained a lot of weight over COVID and I have done *everything* right and, before starting Ozempic, had not lost any weight. For more than a year. No sugar, cut down carbs, cut back alcohol *drastically,* more green leafy vegetables, two all body workouts a week, as much cardio as I can... Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

When Obama was elected my anti-reg shilling job at Commerce dried up and I had a lot of spare time, gradually worked my way up to doing 40 minutes of high intensity cardio on the elliptical in the gym every fricking day, did not get back to my college weight no matter what I did. Was just exhausted the rest of the time, but it didn't matter because I didn't have anything to do anyway. Carlories in/calories out, my left butt cheek.

Read this book "Fat Chance" by Robert Lustig where he made the case that the whole "calories in/calories out" thing is judgemental, lying horsecrap and I've gotta say, my personal experience confirms this. Ozempic is basically a hormone that controls your appetite. So I can eat less and not have my body punish me the other 24 hours to keep my set weight constant. So now all the behavioral changes I made are finally bearing fruit.

What I don't understand is why Ozempic is not causing a huge investment bubble right now. It is a literal miracle cure for weight loss. I mean, sure there's some advertisements on Hulu about it, where they sort of mention in passing, hey this diabetes drug also makes you lose a little weight! Like, hello!

I lost 15 pounds during Covid doing calories in/calories out. But it was slow/tedious- logging everything you eat. Basically discovered that when I wasn't losing weight that my calorie deficit wasn't large enough. Also noticed that some days I wasn't eating enough.

But different things work for different people. Someone may have success using keto (a friend of mine lost 32 pounds on the carnivore diet) while other people used vegan diets. Important thing is sustained weight loss over a period time, ability to adhere to a diet.

For me just calorie in/out works along with weight lifting and a few times a week and cardio a few times a week. But results vary from person to person.

The science, and my experience, is that you can *temporarily* lose weight. But you can't lose it permanently. Statistically speaking, you are much more likely than not to gain all that weight back. Unless you disrupt your internal hormonal equilibrium with something like Ozempic.

I guess I'm an exception because I've been around the same weight for the past year after losing 15 pounds.

One of my friends recently tested positive for Covid. He decided to take a Lyft to someone he knows who he had to housesit for (also he doesn't have a car) . Upon entering the Lyft, and driving half a block from the home, he asked the driver to wear a mask. The driver refused. Then he told the driver the reason he should is because he had Covid. The driver immediately flips out, threatens to beat him up, stating he has a family. The driver however continues to and completes his destination.

My friend claims that he is not in the wrong and attempts to file a refund citing verbal abuse. However, Lyft does not issue a refund for the ride as it you are not supposed to be riding with Covid.

My friend is upset but if anything I have more or less think he shouldn't been riding Lyft. He now wants our group of friends to boycott lyft, and stating "I handled it well and he did not".

What do you do if you’re to fly home from Scotland in 10 hours, feeling sick and take Covid self test which turns out positive.
Happened to my wife and I this weekend. We thought the most responsible action was not to fly, so decided to stay in Scotland for another 10 days. This has turned out to be a major hassle and very expensive. I would recommend masking up and flying home even with Covid.

Ruz, so sorry to hear this. Please feel free to reach out about anything stroke-related. Recovery is a rough road, but doable. Feel better, my friend.

Looks like I/we picked a good time to get solar panels on our house.
And replace the only remaining original window. Im wondering if
a heat pump isn't in our future. We currently have a gas furnace.

Ruz, hope you are doing well/better.

I think I'd like to find an old 'dumb' TV. I love my smart OLED TV but I don't have confidence
in the products out there to enable one to (supposedly) hook up a DVD player to a smart TV.
Maybe I need to do more research on that.

Anyone have experience in being able to watch their old DVDs on a smart TV?

You can:

1) Check to see if your smart tv has AV (red yellow white cords) hookups and just plug your dvd player into that

2) Buy a blueray player or some other disc reader (xbox/playstation works too; doesn't have to be the newest model, just HDMI compatible) and plug it into the TV.

3) Buy an av/HDMI converter and just plug in the corresponding bits.

4) Play the DVD on your computer and cast/connect the computer to the TV

5) Rip the DVD off the disc and onto the hard drive and cast/connect the computer to the TV

lots of options, and I'd say all of them are better than buying an old AV-compatible TV.

Thanks Cakes. My smart TV does have an AV input. Do blueray players play DVDs in addition to blueray discs?
The I wasn't confident that the AV/HDMI converters would actually work. My research about that left me skeptical.
Sounds like I need to learn how to cast/connect computer to TV for one thing. The computer closest to our TV
is a fairly old iMac and the newer is located in a different room. What are the range limits for cast/connect?

Thanks again.

BR can play DVDs for sure. That's the easiest fix.
