Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
Trades I would do:
Jeff Green to the Sixers for as of now, the 34th and 43rd pick in the draft.
Trevor Ariza to Houston for Knight and Houston's 2019 1st round pick or Ariza to Utah for Favors and their 2019 first round pick.
It's too bad Morris is injured, I would have thought he would be moved.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
Otto + top 10 protected 1st for KCP, Ball, Wagner
- LAL gets solid 3rd piece for contendar and maintains a premium trade package for AD this summer (BI, Kuzma, Hart, Wiz 1st, LAL 1sts, etc.)
- Wiz get out of tax and young prospects.
Otto = Cap Relief + Ball
Late lotto pick = Wagner

God no. That Ariza for Knight trade is terrible. Ariza has been great for us lately and Knight is lighting 15M on fire this and next year. We need more than a late 1st for that.... MAYBE if Knight made 10M... but not at 15M

The Wizards should try and move both Morris and Ariza to Philadelphia.Rafael122 wrote:Trades I would do:

Good karma moves.
The rights to Justin Patton, cap filler player(s), and/or round two picks in exchange for Ariza/Morris would be good return.

I like this idea but it doesn't seem likely.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
Ariza long term for a middling at best team makes little sense to me. Trevor should be given the opportunity for both winning and a good contract elsewhere, with a better organization than Ted and Ernie's bland adventure, the Wiz.pcbothwel wrote:Rafael122 wrote:Trades I would do:

We should trade Ariza, but We SHOULD NOT take on 15M in dead salary next year just to get some late 1st in a very average draft.
In the last 10+ games Ariza is averaging 17/5/5 on a TS of 58% and a 3:1 AST:TOV ratio. His production, pedigree, and versatility is GOLD for a playoff contender.
You want him? Fine. Pay for it with a pick and cap relief

That would be very good return for Green.
Why would you want to eat Knight's contract (he sucks and makes ~15.7M next year)? Ariza also isn't good enough to get a 1st from Utah since Favors is actually a good role player on a basically expiring contract (16.9M guaranteed for next season after July 6). They should just call the Lakers and try to get KCP + 2nd for him.
We know how bad Morris is but maybe there's some idiot who thinks he can help.
**** this ****. If Ernie's still here after this season I don't know what to do. He really destroyed Wall-era with all these horrible moves.

Love this. It's even conceivable they'd go for it. But, this is NOT an Ernie G. trade -- no way.

I'm assuming you didn't notice that Knight's contract extends thru next year.
Why would Utah give a R1 pick to lose Favors salary & gain Ariza's? They can just decline Favors option if they want him gone next year.

I agree. Ariza has substantial value for a team w/ hopes in the playoffs. Ditto Green to a lesser degree.
Trade Ariza for "a pick and cap relief" (& the minimum expiring salary we have to take back) trade Green for picks as Raf has suggested.
Trade Morris for the best pick you can get. If it makes sense, include one of the R2 picks we got for Green.
Come out of it under the tax & with a R1 pick & 2-3 R2 picks.
That leaves us with 10 players, btw. Convert McRae & Robinson at the minimum cost with options for next year. Bring back Payton II on the same terms, then finesse the rest of the way with 10-day contracts. If we need another big, grab that undrafted guy out UNLV -- Brandon McCoy (?) -- also w/ an option for next year.
I wouldn't count on Ernie to do anything this sensible, however.

So, 2 days left - and the FO still thinks it is a good idea to chase the 8th seed

If you don't want a draft pick, then yeah, trading Ariza for expirings makes sense. The proposed Otto trades to Portland all require us taking back a contract with a year left any way.
Favors doesn't fit with Utah. He's rumored to be packaged with Rubio for Mike Conley.

They lack direction because they lack a clear vision for the team. They have no idea how they want to build the team and what type of team they want to be. They are set to pay the tax, and their supposed best player is out for the season and probably the next. They're three best players have a problem co-existing.
This is one f--ked up team.

Yeah, the Wall news is heartbreaking. No question he is out for AT LEAST a year. And I really can't see how he ever regains that explosiveness that he needs to be effective.

He will have to change how he plays the game. Shooting has to become effective, post ups, moving without the ball...
This is devastating.
