Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
I'm sorry to hear about the John Wall news. That sucks. He's out for a year and my guess is he'll need another year to regain form (similar to Hayward).
My guess is that the Wizards won't do much because they've already said that they're aiming for the playoffs, but if you were GM what would you do?
I'd consider cleaning house with the goal of being better in two years (when Wall is fully back).

Simple.
- Trade Ariza and Green for 2nds and cut salary. Listen to offers for Beal/Otto over next 48 hours, but wouldnt force anything.
- Fire EG and Brooks
- Trade Beal this summer for highest ceiling package
- Listen to Otto offers, but wouldnt trade him for salary relief. Would require an asset
- Use top 6-8 pick this and next year along with assets from Beal trade to start rebuild around Sato, Brown, Bryant
- Hope Wall can return to being at least top 15-20 PG

They lack direction because they lack a clear vision for the team. They have no idea how they want to build the team and what type of team they want to be. They are set to pay the tax, and their supposed best player is out for the season and probably the next. They're three best players have a problem co-existing.
This is one f--ked up team.
They have been moving the same direction for 15 years. Like taking left turns while driving a NASCAR, the direction/vision has been that of Ernie Grunfeld.
His every whim and folly while keeping his damn job has been what's caused ALL of this chicanery and ineptitude . Ted Leonsis hasn't had it any other way since Abe Pollin died.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Wouldn't be worth loosing our max slot for Porter and a 1st. How about Ball, Ingram, Rondo, KCP, Stephenson, Beasley and 2019 1st for Beal and Porter?pcbothwel wrote:Otto + top 10 protected 1st for KCP, Ball, Wagner
- LAL gets solid 3rd piece for contendar and maintains a premium trade package for AD this summer (BI, Kuzma, Hart, Wiz 1st, LAL 1sts, etc.)
- Wiz get out of tax and young prospects.
Otto = Cap Relief + Ball
Late lotto pick = Wagner

Fair enough. Your trade isnt going to net you Beal and Porter.
Ball has too many warts as a player to ignore his salary and distractions.
Looks like a bad fit

No thank you. Rondo/KCP/Stephenson/Beasley have no positive value (for Wiz) so it would be Ball (+ LaVar), Ingram (not the most intriguing prospect) and likely a non-lottery pick.
I'd wait until summer and see what kind of package you can get for Beal. He should have good value: legit all-star, good fit for every team, healthy and under contract for 2 more years. Porter on the other hand is having a bad season and his value right now is all-time low. It makes more sense to keep him than trade for trash.
Tanking next year (or well, right now) and building a team with better chemistry in summer 2020 should be the plan now.

The Lakers young guys don't fit any timeline for the Wiz, they'd have to re-sign Ingram and some team is going to offer him the max. Lonzo and his family would be a problem on a dead end team.
If the Knicks get two max guys and want a 3rd star (and can't get AD), I'd take their Top 3 1st pick and future picks for Beal. I don't want any players in the league already.

Once teams strike out this summer Brad will become an extremely valuable piece to move. I'd prefer strong picks. I'm not interested in Ball, Ingram, etc. This will be a long rebuild and I want the incoming pieces to be as young as possible.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
I'd be looking to trade Beal for the best combination of high picks possible. Chances are, that trade is more likely to happen in the offseason.
I agree with Eli Babak that it's probably ill-advised to trade Otto Porter right now while his value is at an all-time low. Id ride out this slump and hope he can be traded in the future for better return. it's not like his contract changes anything from a free agency perspective. We are never going to have cap room anyhow.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
How many draft picks could we get Boston to include in a Beal + Mahinmi for Hayward trade?
The idea here is to take advantage of Ainge's desperation to retain Kyrie (and ultimately to get Davis). Also, Mahinmi's contract would be the right sized ballast to use in a Tatum for AD trade this summer.

Right -- we need to start over (with a different GM -- otherwise what's the difference).
Are they going to give us that top 3 pick & other picks for Beal?
Plus, lets try a trade that would work in the trade machine:
Beal to the Knicks
Kanter (expiring), Mitchell Robinson, Damyean Dotson & New York's '19 R1 pick to the Wiz.
I'm sure they don't want to trade Robinson, but he's key to this deal.
Takes almost $4m off our salary, while also adding 2 players to take us back up to 14. Great for our salary problems next year as well.
Follow that up with Ariza to the Lakers -- they are reported interested in acquiring him -- for Rondo (expiring) & Hart (would they do that?). If they won't trade Hart, make it a R2 pick (best one they own), & use a trade exception to make the deal legal.
Gets us under the luxury tax & much better set up going forward.
Thoughts?

I don't think New York is all that interested in Biel right now. The problem is that Beal's salary will prevent New York from acquiring a second Max free agent.
Why trade a bunch of picks and good players for Beal when you could just sign somebody like Middleton or Klay?

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
Hart for Ariza would be awesome. I’d be all over that.
Send Green somewhere for a protected 1st. Move Dekker for a 2nd. Move Morris for a 2nd
Go into the 2019 draft with two 1sts, two 2nds. Add Hart to a nice core of Sato, Beal, Otto, Bryant, Brown Jr, Robinson. That would be 11 players already.

Lakers aren’t giving up Lonzo Ball for a rental of Ariza.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
There are buyers out there: Bucks, Raptors, Hornets, 76ers, Celts, Blazers, Jazz, Nuggets, Rockets, Lakers, Mavs. We could sell anybody but John, Ian, and Dwight. I don't think there is a big enough package out there to trade Brad except the Celtics, but does Kyrie want to share the ball with Brad? Other than the Celts, not good enough draft picks available in that group to trade Otto.
Keeping Morris, Green, Ariza would be criminal. And 100% get under the tax because we sure as heck will need to go over the next two years to field a competitive team.
The Knicks are not taking on any salary past this year or trading away cheap guys.

Still think Beal and Porter are the types of players/character that you look to build a team around. Both still young. I’m keeping those guys and not getting carried away at a small sample size.

the problem is, there is no way to build a good team around those two guys since were only working with 65% of the cap. Basically all we can do is maybe remain a half-decent 40-win team, but that's probably going to result in Beal leaving in 2 years.
