Re: If you took over as GM today, what would you do?
I think worrying about a max contract two years from now is plain stupid. And making a trade based on worrying about having to pay a max contract is the definition of what bad management does.
A decision on Wall should be based on what's done on the court and his work ethic off the court. Everything else is secondary. I don't question the work ethic.. I do question what his coaching staff is telling him. I also question how he is working out. And mostly I question his overall confidence.. he appears shaken at times.
I think getting drafted by the Wizards #1 was akin to rolling snake eyes in Monopoly and getting sent to jail. He's probably hoping for a get out of jail card (a trade) at this point, lol.
Wall is not this teams biggest problem however, I don't know why people are all caught up about Wall... Wall had nothing to do with us starting 4-28.
A lack of talent is this team's biggest problem. I don't see how trading Wall addresses this problem.
And probably the thing I understand the least... is when people point to other top picks and say 'Wall is not Irving or Durant... therefore he needs to be dumped ASAP'. Or 'Wall is not a franchise player, so lets trade him for draft picks', lol.

Yeah, Chicago was slightly better than 4-28 without Rose. Oh, but we had... Booker injured, too. That explains it.

Re: You are NOW Ernie Grunfeld for 3 seasons starting now!!
I can start.
For starters I would rest Beal from the Sprain, and not allow him to play even if he claims to be ok.
This way he cant mess up the tank train.
I would make Randy start Vesley to get him playtime over Nene. this also gives bonus to the tank but can help increase Vesly's skills.
Also talk to Jan to shoot more while in this process. rest Nene for the time being so he doesnt get too banged up.
Send Singleton to the Dleague, so maybe he can start there and get better skills.
tank for this season. Get Noel if possible otherwise search for a well rounded Big or SF(combo SG).
Trade Booker, Singleton and second round (13) pick for late-mid first round pick for (14).
Use Nene/Oka to help develop Noel, etc whatever big from the draft.
hire shooting off dribble while pressure training for both Wall and Beal. Also hire big time Shooting training for Jan.
Get some pressure driving training for KS and Jan.
2014 comes alone, and make up some lame injury excuse for sitting out Beal and Wall for a quarter of the games.
Also pay up to Stern, or whatever GM/Owners do to buy top draft picks from Stern.
well thats all I have....

I'd shut Nene down and wouldn't let Beal back until he was healthy. Once Beal is healthy, I'd play him. There is no need to worry about the tank. Without Nene, this team can't win.
I agree about playing Vesely some more. I think there's only a 10% chance of him salvaging anything out of his waste of a career, but I'd give him that chance now. He has 24 games. If he can't start playing like a competent basketball player when given guaranteed playing time, then he's gone. My guess is that he is indeed incompetent, which means I would decline his 4th year option.
If I sent anybody to the DLeague, I think it would be Seraphin. His skills are fine. He needs more opportunities to adapt to game situations, read double-teams, etc. Putting him in as the man main on a DLeague team should give him that.
I'd draft Noel first, and if he's gone, I'd take Porter. With Nene shut down, there really isn't any chance that Porter slips by us.
I'd try real hard to trade for a mid 1st round pick to get Burke. I'd offer our 2nd round pick plus either Seraphin or Ariza (depending on who we drafted with our 1st) and take on a crappy contract in return. Obviously, they can have Vesely, Booker or Singleton in the deal as well, but I don't think those guys have any trade value.

That is the definition on tanking Nate.

I meant that there is no need to take other measures, like benching Beal. By sitting out Nene, the tank mission will be accomplished.

Ok, The Wizards have clearly stopped the bleeding which is good. They put a solid roster in place that made Beals introduction to the league a positive experience compared to the rosters of the past. He is the first top draft prospect to enjoy that experience in a long long time and I consider that a home run. Beal is legit and the real deal so we have something finally to grow. Now we have to see if he can be great, because we don't need good at SG, we need great if we want to compete.
McGee was going to leave and we got Nene for him. Nene has been great for the teams turnaround.
Trevor A and Okafor for a dead Lewis contract. Again. Great stability for Beal and it gave Wall something.
Webster for nothing. Another steal.
All those move where good move if you wanted to maximize Beal introduction to the league.
So glad we didn't draft MKG like some wanted.
Now what is their plan ? That is the big question.
We are entering the age of Durant, LeBron, Melo, Harden and maybe Paul George.
We are leaving the age of Duncan, Kobe, PP, KG
The team has to find a way to get one of these top SF and they need to land a PF of the future.
People talk about a lot of things this team blow, but not drafting Nikola Vucevic is an under rated topic. With him on the roster, it would be a lot more clear on the path forward going into this draft.
In just his second year, he is borderline breaking in the top 10 for centers in pts and he is already 4th in rebounding for centers.
If we could have just drafted this guy, we would have a lot more flexibility right now. And we wouldn't have Vesely to worry about. Double whammy. They wanted a big in that draft. Once they couldn't get Kanter, they clearly should have gone with Nikola.
For those that get on EG all the time, this would be the type of move to focus on. You make this pick and you enter this draft with a lot more options. You don't, now you need a center and you have to figure out how to get value of Ves. Huge set back.

hands I agree this is the best accomplishment of this season. The horrible start was so depressing, but once healthy they had some nice on court success, played the right way, and gave some positive experience to Beal and some confidence building success winning a couple rookie of month awards.
With Nene hurting time is to position for a good draft pick, give pt to guys like Vesely, Singleton, Booker, Seraphin, Temple, see if any of these guys are worth keeping.
