The real concern for the Wizards has to be the fact that we just drafted a very skinny 4/5. And then the NBA decided to drastically up the physicality level.

A lot will depend on Sarr and his work ethic. Mobley had an even skinnier frame and he is doing fine in this high-physicality league. Sarr has broader shoulders and is younger than rookie Mobley, so there is reason for optimism.

I'm encouraged that Sarr is actually starting to initiate contact when he faces up and tries to drive into the lane. He usually sort of bounces off people, but at least he is trying.

I like all the praise for Dylan Harper in the last day. I don't see how that kid is anything but a future star.

I'm not too worried about that. Those burly, physical 4/5s will have a tough time keeping up with a mobile, athletic 4/5 like Sarr who can score from the outside and who can go end-to-end with the ball off-the-dribble before they can get out the paint on the other end.

We just need a physical rebounding big that can share the court with Sarr on occasion--like Cleveland has with Mobley & Allen and the Griz have with JJJ & Edey.

Good thing about the 18th pick is that this allows Dawkins to bring in more guys. Last year's workout list included Risacher, Sarr, Castle, Buzelis, Clingan, Williams. That was 6 lottery picks, I expect they'll bring in the top 30 prospects this go around.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I forget who it is who has been saying on this board that the NBA has been trending in this direction. That teams will need to be able to get big and score through contact. Especially in the playoffs. professorhypertext or whatever his name is...

The playoffs have always been physical trench battles, some more physical than others

My top 6:
1. Flagg
2. Harper
3. Ace
4. Edgecombe
5. Fears
6. Essengue

Give me a dynamic playmaking guard or large 2-way forward

1 in 5 shot isn't nothing. It's way too high which is why I hated that last second win so damn much and will hate it hopefully until the lottery is over, at which point, please, pretty please, let the pick not land on 6 (or 4 or 5 for that matter).

Unless Bub has become that guy? I'm not quite sold on Bub being the starting PG on a playoff team. Right now Bub and Poole are playing similar roles, we need to trade one of those guys for a facilitator (or draft a facilitator and trade one of them for whatever we can get) and Poole is probably the more tradeable asset.

Almost certainly can't trade pool until the last year of his deal.

Exactly. My vision on Sarr is for him to first develop in the ways he sees himself: as a skilled face-up Big who adds weakside shot blocking and ballhandling/playmaking from the perimeter on in. First step in that will be for him to dedicate himself to making that jumpshot a real weapon. If he is hitting that regularly, it will force teams to send their bigs away from the paint, since no one else is going to be able to bother it.

Of course he'll be in the weight room the whole time, I'd prioritize balance and core strength and flexibility over bulking up. He can add strength, but looking at his brother and parents I doubt he gets much bigger. Still this is in a league with Chet and Wemby. If he adds skill more than bulk then his slim strength will be an asset not a handicap. As Zards says, he can outrun and out maneuver the heavy hitters. Until he does add that wiry muscle and flexibility, I don't want him battling in the interior full time anyway. Chet has had 2 injuries that took him out for a while after getting pushed around in the low post. Alex has a sturdier frame than Chet (or Wemby).

I do want a stout rebounding core, and would love to have the option of a true rim defending center. We could play truly huge at that point and force other teams to adjust.

But anyway we are a long way from worrying about how Sarr will perform in the playoffs :P

Just checking in to say we just endured what is likely the worst season we’ll have for hopefully the next decade and it’s truly onward and upward with a plan in place from here. Yeah we will still suck some next year but hopefully have a true franchise center piece in the middle of our youth invasion and then our cap space is freed up to make some serious moves in 2 offseasons. It’s going to be hilarious when KD tries to get in on the fun in 2-3 seasons. Hope we tell him to kick rocks.

Ok...

Yaxel Lendeborg & Johni Broome look like two of the most underrated NBA prospects I've seen in many years. If the Nets would trade 26 & 27 for our 18 & 40, I'd go for it & pick those two guys.

If we got 3, & the Nets would exchange their 6 & 19 for it, I'd also go for that. Then I'd try to trade down from 6 in a way that got me Maluach -- not sure what would work.... Otherwise, I might simply take him at 6 (but I think there might be a trade that would work -- any suggestions?).

At 19... I don't know. Maybe Nique? But maybe not.... Not sure. I do like Danny Wolf....

Ediit: of course, guys rising in predraft chatter might make some of those picks impossible.

With a projection of mid-to-late-lottery. That makes sense to me in this draft.
