Sources say the Washington Wizards hope Ace Bailey’s refusal to work out for teams during the pre-draft process will cause him to slide.

A source said Washington benefited from the same approach last season with Alex Sarr. The French player refused to work out for the Atlanta Hawks, who had the first pick in the draft. After the Hawks passed on the projected No. 1 pick, the Wizards selected him second.

The Wizards have been impressed by the 18-year-old Bailey for some time. Sources say they’re not concerned about his perceived poor shot selection this season at Rutgers. Some Washington executives had Bailey rated higher than expected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg in high school.

Sixers weigh NBA draft options at No. 3: Ace Bailey, VJ Edgecombe, or someone else? Wizards hope Bailey falls to them. inquirer.com/sixers/sixers-… via @phillyinquirer

Interesting that this is coming from a Philly source. Is this misdirection?

It’s beginning to look like we will get the 4th best player at 6, which would be a win after what happened with our balls. We need a PG, so I am taking WCJR or Traore at 18, we will tank nicely with Sarr, Tristan, and Kelly at Center, we’ll have to draft a Center next-year.

I think so. There’s still a potential bidding war between BKN, Washington, and possibly Utah for that Philly pick.

Today is like Christmas for me. Either going to be hyped as hell tonight or I’ll throw my glass at the TV hearing “the Washington Wizards select… KON KONNEUPEL!!!!”

We are going to end up turning 6+18+Kispert+filler into Bailey, Queen, and Paul George’s albatross contract.

It is only recently that I found out that Kevin Broom does not watch that much basketball, he is mostly a stat geek.

Demin at 50 that sounds about right. Traore not even in top 60.

Interesting. YODA has love for Kon, Asa Newell and Jace Richardson.

2 of the 3 I want zero part of, and Kon just isn't a fit for us at all. Nobody ever seems to post in fantasy, or in this forum, or say, PFF hit rates with their system for rankings, it's rather annoying. I have no idea if YODA is more reliable than "random with good rep for draft scouting on message board guy".

It’s hit or miss and IIRC Kevin used to talk about players YODA missed out on, and would adjust his algorithm based on such. But it’s primarily stat based. So it’s no surprise he has KK at 3 for example.

They just suckered the hornets into trading the 17th for Courtney Alexander, and it looked for sure like Washington was gonna combine 11 & 17 to move up for the falling Caron. They stayed pat, Caron went one pick ahead of us, and they took Jeffries. Oh the humanity!

Bailey & Butler. Here’s to hoping Bailey doesn’t go one pick before Washington while we keep our powder dry. But hey, we may end up with Queen instead and he’ll sell tickets just like Dixon did!
They especially should think Queen with Olynyk on board. He is the same style, niche player.

Losing 40 is a little bit of a bummer. I was hoping for Yang or Niederhauser there.

All this craziness going on with Ace is really adding all kinds of twists to all of this as well. I would certainly be pretty excited with a draft of Ace and Asa to form an exciting new young frontcourt to build on. 18 will be interesting, any of Asa, Queen, Beringer, Sorber at 18 would make me happy.

The trade of Poole could signal a couple of things. Could be they wanted to move him to clear the way for Fears , and remove his influence on a young PG new to the league. Or it could be they wanted to move him with Ace coming in, to remove Poole taking a bulk of the shots and again removing the gunner offensive mindset of a player as an influence. [B][McCullum along with Smart and Middleton will be more in line with the Wizards philosophy of how they want to play and what kind of vets they want to set examples to follow.[B]

Your last sentence is it. Add veteran Kelly Olynyk to the list. The Wizards have some ideal mentors for the core to learn from. OGs at every position.

I like what I'm seeing a lot.

It does every year. :D
It's like the ground hog that pops up on my birthday. Gets too much attention that one day, freaks out, and crashes.

Something like that.
