I seriously do not care if Wall ever has a reliable jumper or not. Whether or not Wall fulfills his potential will have very little to do with his shot.

I don't think any one expects him to be Steve Nash as an outside shooter, but being at least Westbrook/Rose level where you can't give him an open 3 will make him a lot more dangerous. Rondo is really the only recent PG I can think of at a star level without a 3 point shot.

As long as he's not using his bad shooting or out-of-control drives when he doesn't have to, he's at least trying to find a good option and keep the team involved. A more reliable shot could make him a better player by giving him a decent option when time is running out, but if his maturity catches up with his speed and passing ability, and he has decent shooters and finishers, that's an option that won't be needed too much.

He's a jump shot and little maturity away from being Gary Payton on steriods.

I would be quite happy with the above, but I'm just looking for the next level right now. Payton didn't enter the league fully formed, and that was after four years of college ball. Given time, I expect Wall to be a much better player, with or without a seriously improved jump shot.

With the handchecking rules as they stand, I don't think there will ever be another Gary Payton. Can you imagine Wall with no handchecking rule? Those long arms would be killer.
I know it is a worthless stat, but check out the 2011/12 season dunk totals.
http://www.cbssports.com/nba/stats/dunk-o-meter
Wall at 47 dunks, Westbrook at 48, Fields with 48 , Wade with 63. Those are the only guards in the top 50. Dude can get to the rack and finish.

Vesely was 23rd in the league with 63 dunks, in very limited minutes. I wonder where he ranked in FT%.

Hand checking rules limit the ability of a defender to wreck havoc the way Payton did. However with zone defenses being allowed a defense can be designed to allow an elite defender to gamble in a way you really can't with only man-to-man defenses. Also Wall blocks shots in a way that few guards other than Wade have.

You just have to not overpay for these players when they come due.

Parker makes 12,500,000, 12,500,000, 12,500,000 the next three years.

Rondo makes 10, 11, 12, then 13M going forward

Just stay away from the crazy Gil like contracts.

13M is fine for your best players. I hate contracts that are higher then that. They just kill your flexibility. If you know you have a really good stud who can win deep in the playoffs, I could live with 15M, but nothing higher then that.

We will see how things work out for teams like Miami. Next year they will have three players making 17M each and each climbs to 22M. Those are some crazy contracts. LeDouch is probably the only one that will end up being worth that much over the term of the contract.

I hope Indy gives them fits. But as long as they don't win it all, life will be good.

Of the 25 max(or near max $15 million+), I would say that 11 of them are clearly a good deal for the team.

(number is salary ranking):
7. Pau Gasol LA Lakers
11. Dwight Howard Orlando
13. Deron Williams New Jersey
14. Chris Paul LA Clippers
15. Kevin Durant Oklahoma City
19. Paul Pierce Boston
16. LeBron James Miami
18. Dwyane Wade Miami
22. Zach Randolph Memphis
21. Andrew Bynum LA Lakers

5 are guys have declined some, but the deals are short enough to be ok:

1. Kobe Bryant LA Lakers
3. Tim Duncan San Antonio
4. Kevin Garnett Boston
12. Elton Brand Philadelphia
6. Dirk Nowitzki Dallas

5 are ok now, but scary in terms of contract length:

17. Chris Bosh Miami
8. Carmelo Anthony New York
9. Amare Stoudemire New York
10. Joe Johnson Atlanta
24. Rudy Gay Memphis

5 are bad to horrible(however 3 have been amnestied and Lewis and Jamison expires):

23. Antawn Jamison Cleveland
2. Rashard Lewis Washington
5. Gilbert Arenas Orlando / Memphis
20. Baron Davis Cleveland / New York
25. Brandon Roy Portland

So basically it breaks down to about a 50/50 proposition with a max deal. However without a max salary guys like Wade, LeBron, Durant, etc would be worth $30 million+

I would not be surprised if the good/bad deal ration is a lot worse at the $12-15 million/year range. Would you rather have Bynum or Foye and DeAndre Jordan(or even Rondo)?

Wall's been added to the USA select basketball team...

Who starts? Who gets the bulk of the minutes at the 1? Who *should* start/get the bulk of the minutes at the 1?

I'm just gonna say it...

Wall: American
Lin: American, but parents both from Taiwan -- does he have citizenship in Taiwan or China for Olympics purposes?
Irving: Born in Australia

Clearly they all consider themselves American, and are eligible to play for the US team, but I just noticed that when I first read that headline. Not a big deal at all, just pointing it out.

Thank you for pointing out the beauty of American diversity, it's appropriate in the run-up to the olympics.

I am change topics and i think that Cassell should have been taking wall to study tony parker as opposed to mike conley and chris paul. I think Wall lack of development can be attributed to the lack of direction that management is choosing to take.
You want your franchise number overall draft pick to mimic an established champion which Tony Parker has demonstrated.

I expect Leonsis to get rid of the current management team and either bring in some high figures from the san antonio spurs or bring in jerry sloan. Opportunity Cost are tremendously slipping away in the talk that Leonsis understands. Grunfeld is decent at picking raw talent so i trust him with the pick but Grunfeld has no clue on how to build a dynasty organization like San Antonio Spurs. I think we keep grunfeld but definitely bring in assistant coaches from teams that have consistently made it deep into the playoffs.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

john wall is the 6th fastest player in NBA history to 2k points and 1k assists.

4th in total assists last season

pure beast. let the haters know who they are dealing with. a jump shot away from being top 5 pg. the cavaliers pg being better is a complete joke. how can a player with 1 double double in his entire rookie campaign be better than wall? wall had more double doubles in this first week as a rookie.

wall fans stay strong. all of our dreams will come true.
