I hope this is just PR to make the rest of the league think we actually want to keep these guys into the season (so that they stop lowballing us in trade offers).

I don't know, nate.... That sounds like it might be kind of painful.

Keeping him around a bit longer, it's a 12 hour flight to Australia.

Strange move. The guy is 26 years old, so he's not really a developmental project for the future, he's emergency depth for right now. But how many people need to get hurt before we ask Vasiljevic to play minutes? I've got him 8th on the guard depth chart behind: Jones, Poole, Wright, Shamet, Butler, Davis, Rollins. And that's not even counting Kispert.

I'd much rather use that spot on a developmental guy with upside.

Yeah, we have too many fringe rotation players who are older than 25: Vasiljevic, Cooks, Gil, Omoruyi. It's one thing to have a handful of older vets on the bench like Gallinari, Muscala and Shamet. I can understand the need to set a professional tone in the locker room. But the end of the bench and the 2-way players should be developmental projects with upside.

An Exhibit 10 contract doesn't mean much.
Basically it can be a way to give a guy a signing bonus for joining your G League team.

Danilo Gallinari: “The goal is to be fully ready to start the training camp”

“I can’t wait to play against Boston,” he noted in the most recent installment of A Cresta Alta, a podcast managed and presented by himself and his brother, “As soon as the schedule comes out, I will mark the dates of every game against Boston.”

“Joking aside, I am excited. I am ready to start the new season,” he added and updated his status, “I am still in rehab. So, I am not actually ready to play a basketball game. But the goal is to be fully ready to start the training camp.”

Focusing on recovering, Gallinari will not play for Italy in the approaching 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Jahadi White (Bleav podcast) made an interesting point. He said guys like Vasiljevic are good to have on a practice squad because their shooting range forces defenders to defend all the way to the arc and beyond.

Almost a week since any post in this thread -- & pretty much the whole month with nothing of note. Which reflects the fact that August has been quiet on the Wizards front.

Will there be another move before TC &/or the season? Should there be? Any thoughts...?

Does anyone know if the new management team has changed the expectations or infrastructure for off season workouts?

Even though signings etc are important and easy to talk about, I think that the organizational stuff is really important too, and I've always been disappointed that the DC press just doesn't dig into this.

Now Garuba has been waived and can be picked up if we wish. We suspected it would happen but it wasn't formal until now.

Man, I hope they do. I have watched some of Spain's FIBA WC friendlies and he is a defensive beast and has displayed good basketball IQ. He has 2 more years left of rookie contract and I think he is worth a shot. As far as I know, he was given very limited opportunities in Houston to show what he can do. He could make a great small ball C: he can defend both the perimeter and the rim and has quite good court vision. He can also shoot the 3.

If I understand the waivers process correctly, if we pick him up immediately, we will take on his existing contract ($2.6M this year, and a team option at $4.4M next year). We are 8th in line in priority for claiming him off of waivers (behind SAS, DET, CHA, POR, HOU, ORL and IND). Of the 7 teams in front of us, only Portland looks like they can use him as much as we can. Both Portland and us have cap exceptions available to use in signing him.

If we wait for him to clear waivers, we could sign him to a vet minimum deal or a 2-way contract. But we would have to gamble that none of the other 29 teams in the league will claim him off of waivers.

Probably would have been foolish to trade Kispert for those dudes, huh?
