There was an interesting article a couple years back by the guy who wrote the "Jumping the Shark" episode of Happy Days. What's sorta funny is that no one was aware that the series "jumped the shark." The episode aired to a massive audience -- #3 show that week with a 50(!) share. The show stayed on the air another 6 seasons and 164 episodes, and remained in the top 25 all 6 of those seasons.

Colin Hanks is a terrible actor but I like the season so far. Mos Def has been a great addition.

Episode 1 of this season, a little girl goes missing in the woods with zombies lurking about. They go looking for her, and the main character's 12-year old son gets shot. Really good show that's worth catching up on if you've missed it.

I blame you. I was never going to watch an episode of Walking Dead - just on principal - because I'm tired of the pop genre of vampires, warewolves, zombies, etc. But because you had to say something, I went back and watched an episode - and another and another and before I knew it, I watched the entire first season and the episodes so far in the second season. It's a really good series - very well written with an excellent cast. And if focuses less on the zombies than it does on how people carry on when society as they know it has fallen apart. In that regard, it reminds me of "Lord of the Flies" and
"Blindness".

If folks don't know "Blindness", it was an excellent book where a blindness epidemic happens somewhere in Japan. The "infected" people are quarantined away in a building that had been an abandoned insane asylum and forced to live in a hellish environment. It was made into a movie in 2008 - but I've never seen it. Blindness groups and women's groups professed to be very offended by it - perhaps it stepped over a couple of lines and the director perhaps should have been more sensitive - from what I understand.

Agree, Hanks is terrible. Since both Hanks and Mos are seasonal guest stars, I'm betting that Mos Def's character will somehow get mixed-up with the Revelation killers.

That's exactly why I like the show so much. For another take on a zombie apocalypse that's REALLY about what happens when everything collapses, check out a book called "World War Z" by Max Brooks. My daughter read it last year and loved it. She kept trying to get me to read it, but I kept pushing it off because it was a zombie book. I finally gave in. Initially, I didn't care for it because it's told in an oral history style, which I typically don't like. When I started reading it as a collection of short stories, it read better for me. Then as I got deeper in, some of the stories became downright harrowing. There are more than a couple "histories" that really got under the skin, so to speak.

I'll have to check out this book.

I mentioned this in the book thread but I'll go ahead and speak
of it again.

Collapse by Jared Diamond
Great read and definitely frightening. Not fictional in the slightest.

But the real reason I wanted to post something to this thread was
to mention how grateful I was for the Eagles effort last night
in salvaging what had to then been a lacklustre -to put it mildly-
day of football.

any day Dallas suffers a humiliating defeat can't be all bad

re the skins - I think Indy could beat them now. WAS' offense
is beyond inept.

I actually saw that movie. I thought it was pretty good and definitely had a "Lord Of The Flies" element to it. From what I remember, it really focused on the husband and his non-blind wife, and how they dealt with the spreading disease.

Agree, the show is picking up, Dexter is always interesting to watch. An average Dexter season still beats most of the crap that's on TV. IMO, Dexter peaked already, now it's just kind of spinning it's wheels.

Had a chance to watch the pilot for Boss. I think I'll check some more of it out. The characterizations were complex and Kelsey Grammer has a good eye for scripts. The pilot was all over the place but just listening to the dialogue you get a sense it will start to assemble. Programs need to sensationalize to grab an audience but some parts were a bit too much. My guess is Grammers been a producer so many years he wanted to make sure to grab the audience. So it makes sense.

Kevin, if you want to check out a zombiepocalypse' book I'd recommend Ex-Heroes. It's a contemporary look at a zombie outbreak with a lot of pop culture references. It's a fun read.

I'll check it out. I guess I'm becoming a zombie fan now. Never saw that one coming. It's sorta like an infection or something.

Must feed on zombie stories.

It peaked really early, like Season 1 early. I still think Season 1 is the best TV I have ever watched.

Besides Season 3, I thought every other season was good to great.
