Beal is a great contract, Otto’s OK. Unless we think Otto an injury risk, not smart to trade. We will not get back anything near Beal or Otto worth.

That’s why you fire the coach and GM, you can’t trade the players. The new front office can evaluate whether to resign Kelly and Sato. And to stretch Ian or not.

Wizards could find a trade partner for Wall if they wanted to.

There are always going to be capped out teams (or teams in undesirable locations) who have no other way of acquiring an All-Star player. Same thing we saw with the Blake Griffin to Detroit trade . LAC got a good haul of assets for Griffin.

But my primary concern is the front office. If Grunfeld isn’t gone then nothing else matters. Once a new GM is brought in, we can see what their vision is and the direction they want to go with the roster.

nate33 wrote:John Wall straight up to Phoenix for Ryan Anderson (2 years, $35M left on his contract) and their unprotected 1st?

Wall would be a great fit in Phoenix. They have the personnel to play up-tempo and a veteran, pass-first PG would be just the player they need to help develop and maximize Booker, Jackson and Ayton. They have the luxtax room to absorb Wall's extension.

We'd tank and end up with hopefully two high lotto picks while alleviating any luxtax woes. We'd have one more year with Mahinmi and Anderson's contracts weighing us down, but in 2020, the contract situation would look real good with only Beal and Porter (and Oubre and Sato) plus those 2 lotto picks. 2020 is when the gambling money kicks in and boosts the cap room.

That is my dream. Trade Wall for Ryan Anderson and a pick. Fire Grunfeld. Keep Brooks as tank commander for the rest of the season while finding a new GM. (Gotta be realistic. He is being paid $7M a year. They're not firing him yet.) Have the new GM handle the draft and hire a new coach for 2019-20.

I guess anything's possible with Phoenix, since they don't seem to have a plan. They have some reall good young players, and then got players on the downside of their careers to start with them. By the time the young players get real good, the old players will be virtually done.

I want Chandler from Phoenix.

He's reliable still.

Wall, Howard and Rivers for Chandler, Anderson and unprotected 1st.

The only problem is that we'd lose out on having Rivers be our tank commander. Also, we really need to hang onto Howard so he can eff up our locker room chemistry. If Chandler replaced those guys, we might accidentally win too many games and ruin the tank.

Does anyone know the details of Porters offer sheet? I vaguely remember there being a trade kicker so trading him not be as easy as we may be suggesting, regardless of his player value.

He has a trade kicker but trade kickers can't make your salary exceed the max salary. He signed for a max salary so the trade kicker is mostly irrelevant. (I think, as we get further into his contract, his trade kicker starts having a slightly greater-than-zero value, but it shouldn't be enough of an increase to cause any real trouble in a trade.)

Agree Griffin is a good comparison, but need to find a desperate short sighted GM like SVG was. Only one I see now is LeBron.

Would Otto and a 2020 first get us Butler?

Would we do it?

As a sixers fan I would trade anything but Simmons Embiid Covington Redick for Beal.
Picks, Saric, Fultz.

Butler is an expiring, there's no way I attach a first round pick.

Knicks Vs Washington

Knicks trade: Enes Kanter(expiring), Courtney Lee, Trey Burke

Wizards trade: Mahinmi, Austin Rivers, 2018 first round draft pick (top 10 protected)

Change the first round pick to a second round pick and that would work.

no. Mahinmi is one of the most overpaid players in the league and is a 10th-15th man. Rivers is kinda trash.

3 rotation players in exchange for 0 rotation players and a terrible contract.

first round pick or we cant talk. U can throw in Jason smith if u want to save money from his contract this season.

Kanter is an expiring contract. Throw in Jason smith going to us. If u want to throw another contract like satoransky we can do that..If im the Gm of the Knicks i just cut every player coming to the Knicks in this transaction.

u add 3 rotation players in this deal and shed some dead weight and a lot of salary.

The problem is that they are three rotation players we just don't need. Burke isn't going to play behind Sato. Howard is coming back so Kanter would be a problem. So, you are really talking about taking on a two year contract of Lee for Mahimni.

So, the deal you are really presenting is Lee for Mahimni + First. I think we would be better off looking for a Mahimni + First for an expiring.

Guess this deal is dead as a doornail.

With howard coming back you still need a backup. Kanter is one of the best backup bigs in the league.
Courtney Lee is one of the best 3 D players in the league. Consistent 40% from 3 shooter and a good defender.
Trey Burke is a solid NBA player. He definitely turned things around.

Id consider a Kanter for Mahimimi + FRP deal, but id like to dump Lees contract if i can. Taking on Mahmimi contract now means we have 0 shot at Durant next year. Not sure if it would be worth it for us to take on that salary.

No argument about Mahinmi. Or Rivers. But, that doesn't make it a good trade for us.

First off, the trade leaves us in the tax. We can't be there. Secondly, it doesn't really make us enough better to matter this year.

Then, next year, after the expirings go away, we have Courtney Lee instead of Mahinmi ($5m savings & a better player, but not enough difference to make a difference), & we don't have a (probably lottery pick) rookie.

Doesn't make sense for us. We're not in a position to give up another R1 pick.
