I would agree with you. But I do think they are the undisputed front runner to rep the East in the Finals. In the end, my early guess at this point is we may well see Kobe hoist the trophy and have an historic second threepeat, a la MJ.

can't agree here... Good, solid role Playing vets will play for minimal contracts to win a trophy with this group. Especially at the trade deadline you're likely to see a couple of players pull a Vince Carter and refuse to play hard in order to force an assymetrical trade.

Can't see this as good for the game though...

And what a colossal d bag... I might just have to root for the cavs now

@MrMichaelLee LeBron James just exposed himself as A-Rod to Dwyane Wade's Jeter. Loves Yanks, Cowboys. Once a front-runner, always a front-runner. Wow.

I'm not watching, and I don't like or respect James. That said, any decision he could have made could have been criticized. This one is bad for us; Miami is likely to be a buzz-saw for years, and of course they're in our division. But I don't know that I respect him any less for this decision compared to any of the others available to him.

I have to note, though, how ironic it is that this decision could have been viewed as the most humble one he could have made (great chance of winning championships without having to be the undisputed star of the team) but he spoiled that by the ridiculous theatrics of the announcement. If he ends up giving half of his salary to charity, I'll eat crow; otherwise, if he wants to help the Boys & Girls Clubs of America then he should just write 'em a freakin' check.

In a normal offseason, some vets (like Josh Howard or TMac, for instance) might sign for a 1-year contract with the intent of proving to the league that they can still play so that they can get a big deal next summer. However, this is not a normal offseason. There's going to be a lockout next year. Everybody is going to want the best long term deal they can get now before the new CBA kicks in. The Heat will only be able to find role players who can't find better contracts elsewhere. They might get a few ring-chasing over-the-hill vets. A guy like Brad Miller will be the best they can hope for.

So it is a five year deal, not sure if he has an out before that.

I can't say I'm jazzed up about this by any means. I mean, I know we had some problems and all, but....

Damn, you are cold blooded, Nate!

I can't blame a guy for wanting to maximize his chances to win a championship. If he was just 100% me, me, me he WOULD go to NYK, CHI or stay in CLE, all of which would make him the undisputed star and frankly a total god in that city.

Dude wants a ring. How can we blame him for that?

Meh, if he wanted to win, he should have gone to Chicago. That team is built to contend now. In Miami, he's got to wait at least one more year to acquire the role players.

Role players are overrated. Miami won a ring with a supernova in Wade, an aging Shaq & basically five guys off the street.

Only losing teams need to develop role players, contenders can find them a dime a dozen for pennies on the dollar.

Miami is my favorite in win a ring and every year for which LeBron, Wade & Bosh signed with them.

I hate to think both Miami & Orlando are in our division. Man that sucks.

The only things that can take Miami down are egos and injuries.

So how does Mike Miller fit in with this? Was MIA's offer a Plan B contingent on LeBron's decision, or are they still interested in bringing him in as a bench player?

Oof. LeBron jersey burned in effigy (presumably in CLE).

QFT.

I was hoping that Lebron stayed in CLE (and actually retired there). I got no hate, if he won a title there by earning it, no probs. I like NBA stars that stick - Reggie Miller, etc.

LeBron's team has tweeted that he'll enter the dunk contest in '11 - but only if he's allowed to have Wade dunk on his behalf in the final round.

Agreed. That'd be a good Xmas day game, but for the fact that CLE is going to stink like hot garbage next year.

They may end up winning a paltry number of games next year... But mark my words, they will beat Miami atleast once.

If the classlessness of the entire night was not enough and if leaving Cleveland on national TV was not enough at least LeBitch still managed to put things in perspective, right? Oh wait, no he didn't. He kept talking about all he had done for the city of Cleveland and the Cavaliers. I don't think we've ever seen an ego like this in the history of sports. The good thing is that the rest of the NBA will hate him now sans Miami. This is probably the only event that would unite Cavs and Wizards fans.

Yeah, but ABC wants two stars head to head, not an ugly blood feud.

It'll be LAL vs. MIA on Xmas day, with maybe BOS vs. ? as the undercard.

Honestly guys, this doesn't change a thing. Orlando and Miami would have been playoff teams next year regardless. It just makes it impossible to win the division within the next 5 years or so.

Great opportunity at the 7th or 8th seed however.
