What # is Beal wearing?

#3 - apparently he used to wear this number when he was younger.

I was before HS because I saw video on him wearing 23 there. I heard him say #3 in an interview. Must have been before HS.

#3 is also his draft position..

He was on the team that lost to the Warriors in the finals. Not that I recall him personally doing anything in that series, or much of anything that season, but that was right around when I was becoming an avid Bullets fan, so I even recall Duval, likely the least memorable player on that squad. I'm going out on climb and ranking Beal above him.

B.B. King was deemed the "Beale Street blues boy." In terms nicknaming our B. Beal, I believe it has to start there.

Beale Street is famous for:
gumbo
blues
muddy waters
bar-b-que
&
stax records

so then it seems #23 might actually be unofficially retired by the wiz?

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me, I've been waiting for anyone else to wear that # since MJ and it hasn't happened.

Beal probably wears #3 because his fav player growing up, Allen Iverson, wore that number.

The curse of Les Boulez lies with #23 more greatly than any other number. 8-)

CCJ, you probably don't remember SuperJohn as a Bullet because he was
largely a disappointment by the time he got here.

We're going to quickly get sick of Buckhantz yelling "Wall Street to Beal Street!"

Or maybe not, if it's "For the win!"

Well Wizards fans been singing the blues while team has struggled through muddy waters. Hopefully Wall and Beal can can go together like Crawfish & gumbo and they'll bar-b-que the competition and stax records.

My parents were both born in Memphis. BBQ on Beale street is the big thing. I am not too sure about gumbo, unless I missed that last time I was there.

Side story on B.B. King: One of my dad's friends, who passed away years ago, played drums and played with both BB and Albert (musician) King among others. I remember him for all the tall tales he would tell. He was the funniest man. Told me a story of himself going fishing. He said a rabbit swam in the water and that it jumped in his boat and started showing its teeth in a menacing matter (which he demonstrated). Apparently he wasn't lying about his music connections, however.

Gumbo is officially a New Orleans thing. But, I'll tell you half of a dozen soul/comfort/southern food places on Beale that sell better gumbo (and have it as their signature dish). It's the best thing at BB King's blues club. I go there three or four times a year. But, you're right CCJ, they are more into BBQ. It just happens to be my favorite dish on this spinning globe, so I put it up there.

CCJ, your Dad was friends with Jimmy Carter? Awesome!

This is like six degree of separation, Sev. I had a book that he authored signed by Jimmy Carter, at one of his book signings in Columbus, GA; which is not too far from where he lives. This is a link to the book that I bought--it was a good one, too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FC ... 1EY0WD3MFS

Sev, My dad's friend told of a rabbit snarling at him. I mostly remember my dad retelling it. Maybe I fused in my mind with Carter's swimming rabbit. I am going to call my dad and ask him to retell the rabbit story. I'm glad you posted, Sev.

On the subject of six degrees, it is funny. After I went to see Red Tails, I called my dad. He flew in the Vietnam era. Unbeknownst to me, he trained in TX at the same place the Tuskegee Airmen did. (Why do they call them the Tuskegee Airmen? I knew black men flying in Alabama in the 40s seemed far fetch, though my dad did in the late 50s and early 70s). One of the original airmen was my dad's first sergeant years back. My father had met Chappie James. I read on Wiki that back in the day, Chappie James came very close to shooting Muammar Qadafi. As for the Tuskegee Airmen, when I first got in the AF several of them came to speak at a school I was attending. I had three of them sign their pictures. Last but not least, a famous pilot that was shot down over Lebanon in the 80s, Robert Goodman, was at that school the same time I was. (Naval Postgraduate School) Dude is probably about 5'4" or 5'5". Met a lot of people who are shorter in real life. Ray Leonard used to mess around with a young lady at Bowie State. No way he's any taller than 5'8" ….

Sev, I have to get the story of the rabbit straight! Last, dad's late friend went by a nickname, "The Sparrow." In real life he had well over a dozen children. Something like 16 or 17. You can't make this stuff up! :)

If Beal ends up in 23, he'll have some big shoes to fill. I'm referring, of course, to Charles Jones.

Sounds like some of those guys go back to the Baltimore Bullets. I think Fred Scolari played in the fifties. Super John Williamson RIP. Loved some of the old ABA guys.

Uncreatively I think we'll all end up sticking with BB3.

Though if he proves a stone killer I'll go with Bad Boy. And 'go on with yo Brad self'. And one 'Brad M****rF**ker...'

Not sure anyone saw this, but it's official...

Beal is signed

Saw this Calipari quote on another Wizards forum:

What he is, is a truly prototype two guard in [the NBA]. What he can do is he plays above the rim. Obviously [he’s] a knockdown shooter. When you space the court and do pick and rolls with him in the game and he’s out on the floor, you’ve got to play him, which opens up the court for everybody else. And he rebounds the ball. He’s good. One of the issues for us when we play them is his rebounding. Now you want to talk about scoring and all the other things, he rebounds, he goes after balls. He’s a terrific player.
