Whats more impressive is that the hoops at those carnivals are always rigged to make it almost impossible to make shots consistently.

You know what I hate? When a job that is supposed to be your dream job is really, really crappy.

All my career up until now my psychotic ex-wife's over the top behavior was the biggest stressor in my life. For the first time ever crap happening at work has trumped it.

Zonk, you're at MCC? I've always thought that's such a cool mission. Between that and the CFPB, seemingly good places to work. A year back, there was a job there I wanted to apply for. But my then boss really needed me to pull a project across the finish line, so I let app deadline go.

If you apply for a job in the econ office there's a good chance I'll be on the panel. Been doing a lot of that lately. It's a popular job so the pay tends to be kinda low, but it is a good cv stuffer.

Your problem is that a desk job is your dream job. Your dream job should be condom tester at the Victoria's Secret office. Think big, idiot.

Yep, low hoop width to ball width ratio, along with a low ceiling preventing a good arc. I've pulled off Rick Barry style, but now they have a big obstruction that hinders that too. Agent Zero strikes a blow in the name of all the suckers at the carnival.

Was associated with Public Affairs (my field) at the MCC a while ago.

Worked out okay, I pulled our project across the finish line and then got promoted.

Were you at South Lakes with Grant? I used to go over there to play pickup ball against him and Chris Mullin (no, not THE Chris Mullin -- a different guy who was smaller, right-handed, and had a similar game). One of the most exciting moments of my basketball life was when Grant (who was a freshman at the time) dunked on me.

pet peeve - In VA we have many left turn lanes where a single sensor placed right at the intersection
controls the duration of a left turn green light. What raises my bp is when you see a significant number
of cars waiting for the light and inevitably the 3rd, 4th, 5th(?) car in line the driver is not paying attention
(texting/daydreaming/whatev) and a gap in the flow is created. The sensor detects the gap and
ends the right of way for the left turners. The inattentive driver realizes just in
time and accelerates sliding through the arrow on yellow. The unfortunate 5 or more cars behind them
are caught and often have to wait through another entire cycle of the light. Seems unfair for the
inattentive douchebag to make it but not all the folks behind them when if they had just been paying
attention, everyone or nearly everyone would have made it on the arrow. Poor accounting on the part
of the engineers for everyday reality of inattentiveness. Then there's the fool who races to beat you
to the red light and thereby blocks the right lane forcing you to wait when you just needed to turn
right, which you could have done on red. Still the worst are cig smokers who feel entitled to toss
their butts out the window while in their cars.

OK, I feel better now.

I'm not the right age to have attended with Grant as SLHS wasn't yet built when I graduated Herndon
(shout out to Cramer), but I did get the memo in time to go see him play a few times. Best HS player I ever
saw by a huge margin. At 6-8 he would jump center, almost inevitably control the tip, and the next
thing you knew, mere seconds into the game, was him going up to finish an oop. Even with his height,
he was the opposite of awkward and played PG at the aforementioned 6-8. Such a shame his
career was derailed by injuries. He was headed to the HoF. And ORL, oh my, gave up Big Ben Wallace,
among others, in the deal that resulted in Hill leaving DET. Having a highly intelligent pro-athlete
father no doubt helped him on the financial side too. Hill hired a lawyer for a flat fee to help him
negotiate his first mega-deal probably saving him millions compared to having an agent.
Final thought - too bad he went to Duke although I do understand the choice. He would've made
a fine Hoya or Terp.

Hold on here a dang second. Grant's own coach said Scottie was better.

If I remember the quote correctly.... "the difference between Grant and Scottie is that when the game is on the line, Scottie grabs it by the throat."

But yea, he'd have made a fine Terp.

Grant would have been one of the all-time greats if he was just better at fist-pumping and facial expressions. Such a waste of talent. Sigh.

Naw, way too young. I graduated HS in 2006. There is basically a shrine to Hill at SL though. Glass case with his olympic jersey and newspaper clippings of him dominating.

I actually got his Scarlet Letter book in 11th Grade English, he wrote his name into it with the year, and my Web Design teacher kept the floppy disk he used and would show it off every year.

Scottie Reynolds? I don't know about that. I watched Scottie play in person at all the SL-Herndon games, and he'd put up 20+ on us regularly, but it wasn't like he was on a completely different planet.

Well, the quote is from Wendell Byrd, SL's coach who coached Grant and against Scottie. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to dis Grant.

I saw almost all of Scottie's games and as a HS player, yea, he was on a completely different planet. Generally recognized as one of the 3 best HS players in VA history along with AI and Grant. Parade All American, 3 time norther region player of the year, state player of the year and left as (if I'm not mistaken) the all-time leading scorer in the state in AAA.

All of which has led to a booming career in Turkey or some damn place.

So they released the schedule. Glad we're playing a home game on my birthday again, but it sucks not having a Christmas Day game. Loved invading MSG last year.

I really hate the way Car Dealer service dept try to eff you over. I had a quote for a new hybrid battery for the 05 Prius we
bought last year. Just under $3K out the door. Then they try to tell me that wasn't including installation and the price was
125% of that which is a lot for what is actually a pretty routine job for a pro mechanic. Had to threaten them with coming
to get the car back and go to the next lowest dealer before they got semi-reasonable. Just sucks. And I'm not even a
woman nor do I play one on TV!
