Okafor for Kevin Martin balances our roster out quite nicely...

I see Nene or Seraphin getting significant PF minutes if Okafor is not traded.

Of course, it's never Ernie's fault, it's always the dastardly and devious fault of the owner. This means they don't have to worry about free agency for the next two seasons. It also means that Robinson is almost certainly no the pick and makes Beal seem more likely if he's there.

I don't like it, but after thirty years of not liking moves from this franchise, why start now?

Why. Now they have two smaller contracts of players who actually have some value. Not like they can't be moved again.

Smaller contracts? Both Ariza and Okafor have more money left guaranteed than Lewis does. Combined, they have 30 mil more guaranteed than Lewis. And neither has positive trade value.

They definitely will have more value than Lewis.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Washington trades: Okafor
Charlotte trades: Desagana Diop + Matt Carroll

It barely fits under the 125% exception. Washington saves $2.8M immediately and turns Okafor into two expiring contracts, one of whom (Carroll) would actually be a good fit as a backup SG. Charlotte gets a competent center for 2 years who would serve as a veteran mentor to Biyombo and TRob.

Effectively, it would be like Washington converting Lewis' $13.7M in deadweight salary into Matt Carroll plus Diop's $7.3M deadweight salary. And then signing Ariza as a free agent for 2 years $15M.

Wow, Diop is really bad and useless with a monster contract and Matt caroll plays only 10 minutes per game in the worth team ever
It's better to keep Okafor

Sorry you're seems very bad
IMHO

Diop is indeed useless. But my trade saves $18M over the next two years while giving away a guy who really isn't any better than what we already have on the roster and freeing up more minutes to develop Vesely and Seraphin.

Yes, you're trade save a lot of money but with the cap space you leave for 2013
What free agent you expect Wiz could get?

The Wizards would end up with roughly $8M in cap room next year. $10M if they cut Crawford.

Love it for us, but I don't see MEM taking Blatche. But I do like the general idea of mix and matching guys like Booker/Crawford/Singleton with Okafor or Ariza to get other pieces at some point over the next year or two.

Yes, but nate, do you see them cutting Crawford? Even if we are lucky to draft Beal, I really do not see it.

Think ATL would go for Ariza+Booker for M. Williams? I preferred to do ariza straight up but I'm guessing we need to sweeten it for ATL

Yeah, I think Atlanta would want more than a straight up deal but I'd hope to get more value for Booker. Would they want Mack+32 instead?

Do you mean Ariza+mack+32 for Williams? I'd still do that...I know Williams wants out of there but I'm not sure how valued ATL fans consider him to be. I'm more or less hoping they've given up on him and are willing to part ways. We could buy a 2nd round pick if need be so giving the 32nd isn't a deal breaker as long as we can ship out ariza.

We would keep Crawford this year. If Beal turns out to be the real deal and management thinks that they need $10M in free agency rather than $8M, then they can cut Crawford. Crawford's final two years of his rookie contract are team options.

Exactly, I was swapping out Booker and adding Mack+32 for an Ariza for Williams swap.

This talk of trading Booker really makes me upset. It's so shortsighted to trade a good young asset to make room for an aging vet like Okafor. I understand why people want to balance the roster, but it just speaks to the absurdity of the Okafor acquisition in the first place. In the long run, it is likely to make us worse in the future, not better.
