her team won again and she didn't play again - the rotation went ~8 deep.

she did talk to the asst coach on Sat. From what she told me, I don't
think the conversation went badly. She was encouraged to continue
to play hard in practice which is exactly what I would expect and
what a coach should say.

FWIW, other parents have suggest to me that THEY think she should get
some burn (of course they/I don't see what happens in practice) AND some
of her teammates have suggested to the coach that she could see some spot minutes.
I find that (the latter) to be the most encouraging thing.

The team is winning but could often use a shooter on the floor.
Based on the shooting I'm seeing from the players that are playing,
she could help in this area. That said, the team is winning because
of their D and that is NOT my daughter's strength.

We play Herndon (BIG rival, my alma mater and Cramer's) today.
I'm betting they continue to win. Not holding my breath on seeing
Jacqui play.

Re FB - my daughters are both on. I agree with gesa's rules. Nearly all kids
are on FB.

on a related note and to the utter delight of both my girls (14, 16), they got
new phones w/qwerty kybds Saturday (early xmas) and our plan was upgraded to permit
unlim texting. We had a happy household from this point on for the rest
of the weekend.

I've been meaning to catch a game over there as my neighbors daughter plays JV.

It starts in 10 minutes but screw it, I'm going.....I'll catch the second half then the JV game. I assume that your daughter is freshman. Good luck to her and hope to see her play.

South Lakes was up 19 in the 3rd Q and coach emptied the bench so
Jacqui got her first action. She wasn't thrilled with how she played
but at least she got her first action.

SLHS JV was up 10 after 3 qtrs when I had to leave. The respective
varsities (boys & girls) play tomorrow @ Herndon.

ps - it's really hard to get to freshman games since they
start at 4 pm.

Was Jacqui number 10? The rosters the handed out were screwed up and I went the scorers table before 4th quarter and I think I got it straightened out.

If so, good lord she's small, and slow, but cute as a button, and I was rooting like hell for her. Please don't take offense to the small and slow, she just is, and that she's playing HS ball is awesome. She walked into the gym for tryouts at a disadvantage and that she made the team...wow. If they kept her at that size, trust me, they saw something they want to work with. Believe that.

Having said that, and I watched her closely, she has great court savvy. You can tell she understands the game and knows how to play it. My daughter played freshman ball at Herndon and I'd forgotten how bad those games are. I watched the JV game and it's hard imagine that's a year or two difference. I don't care how good you are, it's hard to look good.

But, she has game and deserves more time, and it'll come. Seriously, to me her court awareness...where to be on D, knowing the pass to make and not stopping and standing there and then tossing it up for grabs....she appeared to have as much or more savvy and understanding of the game than anyone out there.

I like her and I'm rooting for her, big time, and she's going to be OK. And my advice, one parent to another, as to talking to the coaches....let it play itself out.

And if that wasn't your kid, well.......

If it was, I'm a big fan.....that girl clearly has heart, and that's as high a compliment as I can give someone.

Seeing a post of "worst day ever" made me make darn sure I did more than a cursory check in with them after a 12 hour day at work for example.

At what age did you let them sign up?

I'm pretty sure that you can't have your own account on Facebook until you're 13. I caught my middle daughter lying about her age on a myspace account a few years ago, and put a stop to that ("but all my friends are doing it!!").

My middle daughter also just signed up for a twitter account; it's the only twitter feed that I send to my cell phone.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Cramer, big thanks for your comments.

Jacqui is both small and ...well I don't like to say it, but relatively
slow and/or not very athletic. The thing that makes me hopeful
is that she is very young for her grade, having a Sept birthday,
and has yet to hit her final growth phase so she figures to get
bigger. Hopefully at some point soon she'll growth 3--6 inches
and pick up adolescent muscle.

What the coaches see is that her dribbling/shooting skills
are as good as any girl on the team. She's just too unathletic
to use them to her best advantage. Making the team was HUGE
but I'm already worried about next year. There is a big jump
btw frosh and JV. Our Varsity has few seniors and the JV
has 5 freshmen but they seem well positioned to move up
to varsity next year since at least 2 start.

having a senior moment here and not remembering her number

Just a thought here. Have you looked into Explosive Performance up at Worldgate? Herndon uses them a lot and my son went there for football a number of years ago. They can really help and everyone can always use a little help.

Speaking of Myspace, a while back my now 18 year-old daughter from my first marriage had a photo posted on that site I didn't like. She was lying about her age, saying she was 18 when she was 16. I didn't have a good relationship with her mom and really was searching, trying to find out info about my oldest child; who I had "the privilege" of paying child support for and sending gifts to. (She is a college freshman in Lincoln, NE. Helped her get money for school).

nate, it is very interesting what you brought up about the official age requirement being 13 on facebook. I googled this:

Zuckerberg's statements come on the heels of a pair of eye-opening studies that reveal a giant population of underage users already on Facebook. The number of U.S. parents who would allow children 10-12 years old to have a Facebook or MySpace account has doubled in a year, according to an online survey of about 1,000 adults by Liberty Mutual's Responsibility Project.

Seventeen percent of U.S. parents questioned in the poll said they had no problem with a pre-teen child using a social media site, compared to just eight percent a year ago. And 11 percent of parents admitted to using social media sites on behalf of a young child or infant.

And as many as 7.5 million kids under the age of 13 are using the social-networking service, despite the company's official prohibition -- 5 million under the age of 10, according to a survey released last week by Consumer Reports
.

My son is only 11 and his military-dependent childhood friends are constantly on the move. His best friend shares his birthday and that friend is on facebook. They were literally born in the same hospital on the same day. Many of my sons friends are on fb.

.

How's everyone doing? Happy holidays everyone! If you celebrate Christmas, hope you'll have the best Christmas ever. If you celebrate Hanukkah - which I think starts today - Happy Hanukkah. And if you celebrate Kwanzaa, hope you find a great season as well.

I was looking around for the original Laron Profit thread for Scabs. I'm still looking.

But check out what I did find. Here is Hands' first post ever to RealGM. Way back from 2007.

Oh the memories! :-)

Take care all,
