I think they'd take MKG. They'd probably use the extra cap space they'd gain to re-sign Mayo.

It's hard to say They really need out side shooters and wing scoring so Beal could be a big possibility for the grizz at number two then MKG. Even though MKG fits there style of play.

Random thoughts.

I'm absolutely floored by Zeller's 8'8" standing reach. I had him in the top 10. That kills his stock IMO. You'd be hard pressed to find examples of bigs that succeeded with that lack of length.

Henson is freakishly long. Sullinger measured out okay. Robinson at 8"10" meets the bare minimum. Gilchrist is fine. Barton is skinny as hell at 174 lbs but long. Crowder is in the draftexpress database twice. So I'm not sure what's his true measurements are, 8'6.5" (undesized SF - passable) or 8'3" (undersized SG - unacceptable). I would be surprised if he's really that short because he played a lot bigger.

Barnes played smaller than his height so I'm not surprised by his 8'6" standing reach. I gotta ding Beal a bit in my rankings. Having a 8'3" reach is disappointing. Same as Eric Gordon but he doesn't appear to have Gordon's athleticism. Waiters & Austin are PG sized combo guards.

MKG is still rock solid as my 2nd pick. I don't really know who's third anymore. I'm backing off Beal a bit, I'm not loving his physical profile as a 3rd pick. I have too many questions about Robinson's ability to challenge shots and finish in the paint. Drummond is a such a huge risk. Sullinger is still a below the rim guy and doesn't have a high activity level you'd want.

If MKG is off the board I'm beginning to think we should trade down or even out. Trade down wise I like Lillard. To lesser extent, Waiters. Moultrie is growing on me.

Crowder's measurements are weird. In the span of a couple weeks, he apparently got an inch taller, gained 1.25 inches in wingspan, but lost 3.75 inches of standing reach. Also, he lost 1 pound in weight, but 4.6 points on his body fat measure. And his hand got smaller by a quarter inch. A lot of changes for a 21-year old.

I'm actually a little bit disappointed. His wingspan is solid and his height is a bit better than I thought, but I was hoping for a better standing reach since he appears to have a short neck. In reality, his standing reach is at the lower end of shooting guards and he looks more like a combo guard. Here's a list of guys with similar measurements to Beal:

Code: Select all

Name            Year   HTnoSH     HTwSH      Weight  Span     Reach
Bradley Beal    2012   6' 3.75"   6' 4.25"           6' 8"    8' 3"
Kirk Hinrich    2003   6' 2.75"   6' 3.75"   186     6' 6"    8' 2.5
Eric Gordon     2008   6' 2"      6' 3.25"   222     6' 9"    8' 3"
Marcus Thornton 2009   6' 2.75"   6' 3.75"   194     6' 5"    8' 3"
O.J. Mayo       2008   6' 3.25"   6' 4.25"   200     6' 6"    8' 3.5
Iman Shumpert   2011   6' 4.25"   6' 5.5"    222     6' 9.5"  8' 3.5
Rodney Stuckey  2007   6' 3.75"   6' 4.5"    207     6' 7.25" 8' 4.5

I guess some of it depends on whether you like wingspan or standing reach better. I think standing reach is more important for a big man who generally needs height to block shots, but one can argue that a guard might prefer wingspan because they need width and long arms to reach laterally for steals.

I guess I am a little disappointed too. But look at it this way, he is built similar to Eric Gordon, he has been compared to Eric Gordon, and he apparently has a great work ethic. The question is...would people be happy if we were able to get a healthy Eric Gordon in Free Agency? If so, why wouldn't you be happy to get the potentially same player at a cheaper price?

In his interviews, Beal seems to be a bright kid who's humble but also hungry. He acknowledges his weaknesses (height, ball-handling, finishing ability) and says he's prepared to work to improve on his game. For me, it's a sign that he's coachable, which he was at Florida.

Dat, Beal's standing reach is 3 inches more than Lillard. Regardless, I don't think standing reach means a whole lot for guards. For Zeller, it means a lot; but not for Waiters, Austin, Beal, etc. Btw, Waiters is 220 lbs and Wade-like strong. He's going to over-power a lot of "bigger" guards.

I think the word on MKGs measurables was essentially the same as for Beal,
that both had 'acceptable' numbers for their projected position.

As for CHA maybe shopping their pick, I don't see how that changes all that
much for us. We were always looking at 2 out of whoever was left from
TRob, Beal and MKG. It could only get better on the unlikely possibility
that someone still likes Drummond. Simple math says it can't get any worse.

geez--there is little change that MKG will be there for us unless Jordan takes a risk with Drummond. If we dont trade out--its between TRob and Beal. Id like to think Beal will be good despite his crappy measurements.

I agree that those standing reach numbers are "odd". But if you stood next to both Booker and Robinson, T-Rob would seem like a much much bigger man. He is a full inch and a half taller while being at least 12 lbs of muscle larger (8lbs of body weight, but T-Rob has less BF% as well...so he has even more muscle).

Another thing people underrate about T-Rob and big man in general is broad shoulders. T-Rob is built like Dwight Howard with his shoulders. Broad Shoulders make it much easier to create space down low. I would even say it is almost as important as having wide hips and big glutes(muscle in butt).

If you look at the players with the Big Broad shoulders you start to see a correlation.
-Howard, ben Wallace, LeBron, Ron Artest, Corey Maggette, Ben Gordon, Stoudemire, Igudola, Boozer,
Wade.

Rebounding and finishing through contact inside/getting to FT line are the common thread. You combine that with a little bit of nastiness and T-Rob is as solid a bet as you get.

You know, I've been thinking the exact same thing lately. If Lillard was playing in the ACC or SEC, we'd probably be talking about him in the same breath as Beal and MKG.

Watching footage on him he's very crafty at creating space or getting to the rim and he's an excellent shooter. He's not an elite athlete or an above rim player but his first step is explosive and he has great body control. Actually, he looks like a skinnier Gilbert Arenas.

I could see Lillard being a 20 pt scorer in the league. We could do a lot worse than drafting him at #3.

but wouldn't that have the board and the rest of the NBA cognoscenti screaming 'reach'
and questioning Ted for keeping EG on board.

Not saying you're not right. Just wondering if they were to fall in love with him,
whether everyone would say taking him 3rd would be too high and that they should
have traded down, whether that was actually possible or not.

The real questions, imo, relate to what Beal can do on the court. Does he give max effort? Can he shoot? Does he work hard on his game? And, maybe most importantly, what does the kid have between the ears? From what I can tell and what I've read, Beal comes up big on all of those questions.

Yeah, I don't question Robinson's motor and rebounding prowess. And I like your point about broad shoulders. I feel the BPA after Davis is Beal, MKG, then Robinson but they're very close in my opinion. In addition, Beal is built like the Dwight of shooting guards with his broad shoulders and sturdy frame. He's only 18 and has several years to possibly/most likely grow.

Beal seemed to struggle on his lane agility drill. Fran Fraschilla mentioned that his footwork looked terrible.

I think Beal's going to surprise with his athletic numbers. He's a much better leaper than people give him credit for. His standing vert just now looked very solid, and I wouldn't be shocked if his max vert was in the 38 range. Just watching his game tape from the McDonalds game and the Jordan classic, he gets off of the ground very easily and he has impressive hang time.

Yeah, I think his working with someone on that because at Kentucky they didn't allowed the media talk to him for most of the season.
