I've thought about getting Granger, but he is 30 and coming off an injury. It would be a risk. With that being said, I think it would be a no-brainer if we could get him without involving Wall, Beal, picks.

Granger is a great shooter of the long ball. Other than a couple of seasons the guy has knocked the 3 ball down at a good clip. He has a poor field goal percentage overall though, which is really odd considering that the guy shoots such a good 3 ball and is a career 85% FT shooter.

He was a legit 25PPG scorer a few years back, and nothing really suggests that he couldn't continue to do that. He's simply taking less shots.

Defensively he's solid and has a big body. He's probably the only 20 PPG scorer that we can get that wouldn't be a net negative defensively for us.

I think it works whatever way you may want to do it--by trading Ariza/Okafor for him so that they can attack Miami in the playoffs with size and defense, or by just straight up getting him in free agency after next season.

How do you guys feel about that acquisition?

I think it depends on how the draft goes between now and then. If we end up with, say, Nerlens Noel in the 2013 draft, then we might be feeling pretty confident with our situation in the front court (Noel, Nene, Seraphin) and be willing to devote resources to getting a vet SF like Granger. But if we end up with a swing man in the draft, the cupboard will be pretty bare up front with Nene getting long in the tooth, Seraphin still inconsistent. and nobody else. We would probably prefer to spend our money on Okafor or some other veteran big rather than a SF.

I don't know if they can afford to keep him. Hibbert got maxed out last off-season and I can see West being near maxed if they decide to keep him. Paul George is going to demand a lot of money on the market the same year that Granger is going to be available. They've got other players that are up for new deals also.

I could see their GM choosing to keep a core of Roy/George/Granger and look to move West to avoid paying him, but I don't really know the ins and outs of their team. I'd have to ask Pacers fans.

I don't know if there's anybody available that can take Martells starting position at SF other than Shabazz, and I don't see us being quite bad enough by the end of the season to get him.

If we get Nerlens that would be a great situation. But chances are we'll be looking at Zeller, Len, etc as potential guys to grab with our pick, which still leaves us in a bad spot in terms of scoring.

Granger's numbers have been trending downward last few seasons so he sounds like the perfect target for Ernie.

We've had our eye on him for a while...

How about Nene/Crawford for Danny Granger?

With David West coming off the books this season Indy will need a PF. Granger is signed through 2014 so he'll come off the books with Okafor and Ariza.

Indy wouldn't ever do that, who am I kidding.

You could twist my arm with a Nene/Bargnani deal. Andrea comes off a year earlier than Nene.

You're right about Indy passing on Nene IMO. They could probably just re-up West for another year or two at a cheaper price. As for the Bargs idea, I don't see how he helps us. If we're just looking to move Nene for cap space, I think we could probably get a contract that expires in 2014 (even shorter than Bargs).

I remember reading Indiana was making a hard charge at signing Nene as a free agent before he spurned them to resign with Denver. So maybe they would be still interested.

I could go for this deal. Granger is not someone I'd be interested in keeping long term but I've been weary of riding Nene's bad wheels where were basically playing Russian Roulette on a contract that has 3 more years on it after this.

:o Someone is actually interested in Jan Vesely? That's a call where I probably would have fallen out of my chair when they mentioned his name.

Cool...I'd take their first rounder and filler. The problem is the filler would be Kirk Hinrich...he would not be happy at all if that went down.

And ditto on Dat2u's comment. I'm shocked that any team, let alone the Bulls, would have interest in Jan. That might be enough to convince Ernie to keep Ves...his rationale being that the "Bulls expressed interest."

I think Ernie could get a top 60 protected 2nd round pick for Jan. The scary thing is - he's actually made a trade like that before.

I could realistically see Ted trading Vesely for Miles Plumlee in anticipation of drafting his brother - just as a marketing ploy in having the Plumlee brothers. He saw the Atlanta Braves get lots of positive publicity in acquiring the Upton brothers this offseason, and he could see getting the Plumlees as something similarly CLEVER.

That's exactly what I thought. I say take the first with a cranky Hinrich, then trade him as soon as possible for expirings, picks, and prospects. It's the only trade EG knows how to win.

Hey EG, as long as you're using publicity stunts to build the roster, sign this guy:

the bulls have a 5 mill trade exception, so we could maybe just get a 2ed round pick for him. i would lvoe to find a way to get jimmy buttler, but that probably won't happen. i mean i would toss in any number of second round picks, and combination, of crawford, booker, singleton and kevin, to get buttler. But again they have no reason to move him.
