Mahinmi is good. Probably one of the best defensive players in the NBA. This was a perfectly fine signing in a vacuum. But it feels **** because:

1 - The disappointment of losing out on Horford stings like Hell and Mahinmi is a huge step down from him in quality. Horford was probably our big shot to take the step up into the upper echelon of the conference during the Wall era and now it's gone.

2 - We already have a player that's better and cheaper than Mahinmi soaking up 30 minutes a game in Gortat and both are pure centers.

We are probably going to have to trade Gortat to get the 6 win share player that Mahinmi was for Indy last season. Otherwise he's going to languish on the bench playing in a second unit that can't create shots for him. Mahinmi has zero ability to create offense for himself. He is much, much better playing as a starting C with good PnR ball handlers that can feed him around the basket.

Ernie can salvage this. But he's going to have to move Gortat for a really good and useful player to do it.

So the panic-signing is out of the way, there's that.

And this is the offseason we've been looking forward to for years, here it is!

It's amazing the colossal step backwards we've taken in 1 year.

I 100% disagree with everyone saying that we need to trade gortat. Split the time down the middle between the two and call it a day. Titles are won, by having starting caliber players coming off the bench. This should be the plan here. If we can bring over tomas that would help the second unit with creation of offense. I think this is a smart move! Mahimi or Gortat will play well against bench units, and if we get guards who are solid enough off the bench we can make this work! Tomas, Seth curry, Norris cole, david stockton, would help.

There are some solid deals out there left to make, I think going out and getting Sully or T.Jones would be smart moves, We have white coming in from europe in all likelihood.

Why would we play Wall against bench units? I hope you aren't pinning your hopes for the season on the likes of Tomas, White, David Stockton.

But hey regardless whatever else happens, we at least have our "big 3" of Wall, Beal, Porter. Just think about the days when it was Young, McGee, Blatche. Be glad for what we have it could be worse.

Gortat isn't getting traded. That is a complete misunderstanding of this move.

Grunfeld's top priority is preserving his job. The line-up was one Gortat or one Wall injury away from a 25 win season. That would put Ernie's job in jeopardy. Overpaying an aging backup center with no upside is purely for insurance against Gortat getting hurt. Of course, the necessity was created by repeated failur at trying to draft a competent young big with first round picks. Vesley, Seraphin, Booker, Singleton, Javale etc. were all patented Ernie draft failures.

The next move to protect his job is a good backup point guard. Grunfail doesn't know if Sato is coming or even if he can play pg in the NBA. Ernie is horrifically bad at signing back-up point guards. So this is the riskiest part of the off-season for him. So look for an over-priced non-talented pg to be the next signing.

Poor Wall. As a fan at least I can switch my attention to the Redskins where they are finally being run by someone that is competent and knows what he is doing. Wall is fighting like a warrior and the best case upside is getting blown out in four games in the first round by Cleveland or Boston.

Well not wall. I am pinning my hopes on tomas, He is a great young player. Look the teams who have one titles over the past few years. Their teams are deep. Guys who could start coming off the bench, and Ian can start, so can gortat, so who ever comes off the bench, will do well against bench units. We need to get good guards and keep adding depth to the front court. Yes Horford would have been great. But, this offseason can be salvaged.

To go from the possibility of Kevin Durant less than a year ago.....to Ian Mahinmi.

In a long line of "#sowizards", this one may be the most "#sowizards"

Background checks, tax returns, GPS coordinates, etc., but these guys are a really shifty axis of evil.

Maybe millie, Zaelle and Hands were jetted to the Hamptons to make a last minute presentation to Horford, centered around the parallels between the District of Columbia and the colonies established by Columbus on Hispaniola.

I believe that was the reasoning behind the Ben Wallace for Ike Austin trade.

Ouch! :-) But remember who our GM was then, and who the coach was too? I think we traded Legler (one heck of a sharp shooter for his time) with Wallace for Austin "Dunkin Doughnuts". Man, that was the suck, till the trade of Webber happened. Shiesh! Thanks for letting us know that it can get worse. ;-)
Anyway, this is different. Mahinmi can actually give us productive minutes.

ps - My support for the Mahinmi pickup is in no way to be misconstrued that I am supporting EG and Teddy in their off-season adventures. I believe, overall and right now, they've done more damage than good to the team.

Does the nba care about the wizards? How can they sit by and watch an organization self destruct time over time and not intervene. Adam silver needs to do something dramatic

Keep in mind, this is not ideal, but this offseason is far from a complete disaster as of yet. we can still build a winning team, with a future. Ian is 29, still will probably be soild for the life of the deal or most of it. we need to target some youth, on the bench.

No this is a disaster. It's another year of Wall being wasted, and a year closer to him moving on to another team.

Get ready for your Bradley Beal-led Wsahington Wizards. The same Bradley Beal that can't stay healthy for more than half a season at a time.

That's fine and dandy, but we only have the talent to challenge for the last playoff spot. And it makes no sense to split their time down the middle when Gortat is better than Mahinmi, and Gortat IS clearly better than Mahinmi.

Embrace it. Own it. Durant to Horford to Mahinmi. I'm sure he's a good guy who works hard, but... we got a backup center from this exercise.
