The Valor won their chip, too (although Leonsis gets two bites at the apple in that league, and owns both teams in the final game). I'm sure he feels that all of his philosophies about team building and double bottom line are well-validated.

For starters, the AFL these days has just four teams. From April though early July each team played four times against every other squad in the league.

I guess first out of four counts for sumptin'

It reminds me of when Steve Spurrier came to DC and said, "How hard can it be to win a division? There are only 4 teams."

Well, he didn't really say it with conviction, he said he'd like to win 50 games which is about as meaningful as me saying I'd like to win the lottery.

When people say they'd like something to happen it's almost an admission of defeat. Sure, it would be great if it happened and they'd really like it if it did indeed happen, but there's a sense of not a giving a **** that's sort of implicit.

Leonsis does not give a single **** about the Wizards. As long as they fulfill the minimum requirement - making the playoffs - everything is gravy.

This is after all how Leonsis believes champions are made.

Make the playoffs, and get lucky.

Ted's been the majority owner now for 8 years. Ernie has basically had half his tenure working for him.

Unfortunately, the Capitals winning the Stanley Cup is a curse for the Wizards IMO. Ted is just gonna double down on business as usual. I kind of want a lottery season so that there has to be changes in the front office and ticket sales and season tickets will not be renewed.

So many former season ticketholders withdrew in recent years because Ernie is still the GM.

Letting him go isn't that big of a financial hit.

The issue then goes to... does he do a big search for a GM? And if so, if he hires a competent one, its only a matter of time before he wants his own guy coaching the squad. But Brooks is owed $14M after this season.
