I wonder why they would be interested in Jan?
Maybe it was a prank call.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

They probably see Vesely as the second coming of Asik. Both 7-footers, terrible at offense, but smartish basketball players. The trouble is Vesely is to Asik as Pecherov is to Ryan Anderson. I'd happily let the Bulls experiment with Yawn for their late 1st.

What if it was 31 second round picks?
All in the same year.
Bulls couldn't say no to that!

I don't see the Wizards trading 31 second round picks without getting back cash considerations.

It would spare me the unbearable tension of waiting for EG to fritter them away piecemeal.

Speaking of meals, maybe we could entice them with foodstuffs. If we add a box of Krispy Kremes to the 30 second round picks we might have a deal.

Not surprised that Thibs would want Jan. Jan still has a ton of potential as a guy who can come off the bench and play some stellar defense. Thibs is a must better defensive coach than anyone we have in Washington so I'm sure he thinks he can teach him.
Despite how bad Jan is I can't trade him for anything other than a 1st until it's time to give him a new contract...then I'll do with a second. There's still a lot of potential there.

If Jan is to make a successful impact in the NBA, I think it will be playing SF for a team that has ball dominant Gs. In the NBA most of the time the SF has to handle the ball, but in Jan's case he needs to finish at the rim and to shoot short shots from IMO the SF position.
Vesely can catch and finish. He can pass well. He moves without the ball well. He defends fairly well when he's not overpowered on the block. I think his best position could be SF.

Re: Official Trade Thread XXI (12/13/12 - present)
Maybe that "expression of interest" from the Bulls went something like this:
FORMAN: Heya Ernie, how's it going old chum?
GRUNFELD: Good, thanks. Still employed.
BOTH LAUGH
FORMAN: Seen any good players overseas on your last trip? {sound of suppressed laughter in the background}
GRUNFELD: I have my eye on a few players. Listen, I have a colonic at one and a massage at two, so what can I do for you?
FORMAN: Well, I was interested...{more suppressed laughter in background}...what exactly did you see to make you think Jan Vesely could ever be a good NBA player?
Some reporter heard it as, "Bulls called Wizards to express interest in Vesely."

If the Bulls really called about Vesely and I was GM that deal would have gotten consummated in 45 seconds.
Plumlee? "deal!"
2nd round pick? "Hmmm... deal!"
A cap exception?: "Man, your tough negotiator but a fair one, deal!

I still think Jan has some things he could offer, but he looks like a second round pick out there who needs a lot of development (and confidence). If you could dump him for a trade exemption is it worth it? Or would you be better off seeing what another offseason of development + SL could do. You could always get out of his contract after next season by not picking up the option.

Here's a better question. Would you extend the four year option on Yawn Vesely's contract this offseason?
Now if you wouldn't, what's the point of having a lame duck on your roster who knows you have no faith in their ability? He makes a decent amount of money as well. I'd consider it dumping a bad contract.

Re: Official Trade Thread XXI (12/13/12 - present)
I would extend Vesely.
The Wizards started Vesely the last 15 games of last season. They won 8 of the last 10.
Vesely is tall, mobile, and he can catch and finish. I would keep Vesely because he can be traded later or he can help a team when utilized properly.
Dat, you were right about Pecherov and I was wrong. You could be right again. I think Vesely is unique and that the stats this year are not indicative of Jan playing at his peak. He averaged about 9/8/1/1/1 per 36 minutes last season. Those numbers would be better on a better team.
I would keep Vesely around until a good offer was made.

Could they be offering us Taj, perhaps in a bid to save money, and they see Jan as a cheap replacement?
