I hope they have a gameplan

We pray one of our best players (Wall, Beal, Porter) make a big leap from last year. And/or we pray that one of our cheap players on long term deals (Oubre, Sato, Mac) become viable rotation pieces. At the same time we pray that none of our old/injury prone guys drops off a cliff in production next year.

Also, we are still in the 'sell off first round picks to improve the roster' phase, so we have that to look forward too :nonono:

I think so. I believe Nene was in the first year of his deal when we traded for him.

With George going to the Thunder(!), Otto's definitely coming back.

This is the guy who maneuvered the Juwan Howard contract and was holding out for nothing less than a max extension for Sullinger. There's a reason he got the "Bird of Prey' nickname - he's consistently aggressive.

And he's the same guy that had Greg Monroe accept the qualifying offer when he was an RFA so he could become an unrestricted FA the next year because they wanted to get out of Detroit.

And Monroe is about $7M behind what he would have made had he signed a max deal after his rookie contract was up.

That's true, Falk will play hardball in different ways depending on context. In that case, I think they really wanted Moose out of Detroit, probably because of the fit with Drummond.

And it certainly doesn't always work out either, like with the case of Sullinger who probably could have gotten a fairly decent extension if Falk were disposed differently.

If the Cs and Heat whiff on Hayward, folks on Twitter have Otto sneaking onto the ASG next year.
Forwards in the East ahead of Porter: LeBron, Giannis (starters), Love, Simmons-or-Embiid, Zingis... Maybe Horford or Whiteside gets some love? Other than that, there may not a ton of competition for Porter.

Man, the East is getting depleted.

I love otto porter, i think he would fit in great. but i cant dump 25-30% the cap into someone who i dont view as a potential franchise player. and we wont get far with a capped out team of russell/levet/rhj/porter once those guys sign extensions.

what are your thoughts on porter? fringe allstar potential? career glue guy role player like a battier or ariza? better then that?

the porter/KCP talk for the nets gives me nightmare of bazemore/crabbe from last year. not sure we dodge that bullet twice

Praying the Nets get Reddick and he's left in the cold. Ernie pulls off stunning 15m a year deal! Believe!

Its funny that Porter is a second option behind Reddick for Philly and Brooklyn.

Like... If you're more interested in an old vet shooter then maybe you should save your max. Just a thought.

I think Redick in Philly on a 2-year deal for, say, $15M per, makes a ton of sense. Philly has the money, needs shooting, and could use a veteran leader to go along with all those youngsters.

I see the value in Reddick for sure--it's just such a weird jump to go from Plan A. Short contract for a vet sharpshooter to Plan B. Max for Otto Porter

Aside from both being shooters, they are wildly different strategies in regards to a teambuilding outlook

I have no problem with them letting Porter twist in the wind for awhile. That is what i would do in any case with a RFA that wasn't a clear max guy like Durant.

Agreed. I don't have a problem with the Wizards' stance and I don't have a problem with Porter's stance. This is one of those times when you just have to wait and see what the market says.

Probably too creative for EG, but a declining near max offer from the Wizards could make a lot of sense. Maybe even presenting a couple options. Here is a dark horse scenario - sign and trade to the Celtics. Probably would make a lot more sense if they don't seem headed for competing for the similar seeds in the same conference for the next few years.

I have no interest in bailing out the Celtics if Hayward doesnt sign. They missed on KD, Butler, PG, Griffin, and possibly Hayward.
They didnt take Fultz/Ball, so now they are stuck giving an almost 30 y/o IT 4/100M+.
