It’s not an either or proposition. Abrams created the turnout machine that gave Warnock a chance while Warnock’s strategy to appeal to Republicans and Independents paid off well because at best he gained votes as someone who’s not radical and at worst probably caused some Republicans to stay home because he didn’t pose enough threat to make them come out for Walker.

There were four significant causes to make a fairly Red state elect a Democratic Senator. Warnock is a strong candidate, he made some shrewd moves, Abrams ran a great ground game and Walker was a terrible candidate.

Cruz has two daughters, ages 11 and 14.

The outlet reported that Houston police responded to a call that a 14-year-old had stab wounds on their arms in the River Oaks neighborhood. The teen’s identity was not disclosed.

The teen was rushed to the hospital.

“This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is OK,” a representative for Cruz told The Daily Beast. They added that there “were no serious injuries.”

“The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”

Cruz’s eldest daughter shared on TikTok early this year that she was bisexual.

It is totally appropriate to discuss this matter, openly and without reservation. Cruz, one of the most vile politicians, has stoked anti-gay/trans sentiments for political gain and cred in MAGA world.

Assume that you are good with the WH helping Ukraine with the arse whooping then?

And since we are on a bball forum, I just thought I would help.

Dan Hoffman, a former CIA officer who served in Russia said it best, I think: "These are dirty deals, but there's two bad options," he said. "One is letting American citizens get sick, and potentially even worse, in jail. And the other one is make essentially a dirty deal. If it's me, I'll get my U.S. citizens out."

Pretty much on Dan's side on this one.

My guess, the same reason that motivates a great deal of what they do,
power.

Also, Whelen probably isn't getting released till the Ukraine war is settled. Russia has no incentive to release him unfortunately.

His family is frustrated but happy that Griner got out. They put a statement saying the Biden admin made the right decision to get her out with the deal that was on the table.

the kneejerk reaction that the US "lost" this trade also reveals how the people are "valuing" the individuals. It's a 2-way negotiation wherein the US receives a professional basketball player and Russia receives an arms dealer. If the US "loss" this trade, that means the arms dealer has more value than Griner? Or that there is more "value" in having the arms dealer incarcerated in the US vs. extradited to Russia?

Some libs are quick to judge that people who don't value Griner as highly has to do with her race or gender. Maybe. It could also be how those people value the arms dealer (or a mix of both). But nobody wants to fully explain their position and just snark about.

imo, Griner is an american citizen being held by a foreign power that we're in a proxy war with. i don't see what's so unamerican about bringing her back. plus, it's not like having an international arms dealer off the streets has an appreciable effect on the amount of international arms dealing, so the concession in making the trade is really that the Merchant of Death isn't being sufficiently punished.

this "get the bad guys off the streets" myopic viewpoint is pretty analogous to the war on drugs. some people think that locking up drug dealers, even kingins, has an appreciable effect on the amount of drugs being sold. the data does not bear this out, and intuitively we all know that when one dealer is locked up, there dozens of others who have already stepped into their shoes.

if you want to actually cut down on these societal ills, you need to address the causes (poverty for drugs, and international/institutional instability for black market arms) not the participants.

Wooo i love this. The old white boomer is going to school the black guy on racism. Gotta love white liberals.

By the way, you old white liberals (including the one in office) had no problem incarcerating hundreds of thousands of black people over personal amounts of marijuana in order to look tough on crime. Now because it's the Russian government and your ilk is for her release, all of a sudden only a racist could be against her being exhanged for a freakin international arms dealer.

You people are a joke.

You're damn right. It's called accountability. No one told her to go to foreign enemy's country and break their laws. I know you old white boomers don't really surround yourself around black people, but there are alot of black people who think she got what was coming to her. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. There were a lot of black people who wanted Liangelo to get prosecuted in China, but Trump saved his butt too. Does Trump get credit for being nonracist?

Well, you voted for him so do tell...

And you don't think there was any chance that the Russian's planted evidence because?? Maybe we should hear from Griner before we jump to the "she got what was coming to her" card. It may be true it may not be true.

And does "she got what was coming to her" = beatings in prison? :dontknow:

Yes 8% of black men vote republican/independent. It doesn't make you special. It's sad but statistically inevitable. For me it's sad how easy it is for right wing billionaires to manipulate you. You seem like a smart person but your version of "thinking independently" is to believe the talking points of a bunch of privileged jerks who hate your guts. Value yourself more man.

Well because you’re a partisan clown, you assume I vote republican, which shows how ignorant people like you and most Americans are when it comes to politics.

Idgaf about this antiquated two party system. You’re the one that goes into the voting booth and vote down line like a partisan fool. When I vote, I vote for the policies that matter to me and I vote for ballot initiatives. I don’t vote for a party. That’s what stupid brainwashed muppets do.
