Ernie was born in 1955, same year as my mom. She just retired and is enjoying life. Ernie, doesn't that sound great?

Ernie is basically retired at this point. Only problem is he's being paid millions of dollars to let the Wizards rot at the same time. To be fair to Ernie, I wouldn't give up that kind of retirement gig, either.

We actually don't know how much he's being paid. Would be interesting to know.

Can anyone find full transcript of his comments in London? Did he say making the payoffs would be a successful year like it sounds like he did?

Here's the Post story:

"We will never, ever tank." - Ted

At least he's out in public answering some questions.

I'm pretty sure Ernie is leaking like sieve to Stephen A and others to divert blame and responsibility for his screw-ups.

What a F'ing loser of a man, 'it turned-out ok for the Caps", laying the groundwork to double-down on Ernie once-again.

Such a pathetic moron. I cringed while watching that entire interview. The last couple years have made me dislike him even more than Snyder. DC deserves better!

A lot of armchair Owners on this board. How many of you have invented AOL and made a billion dollars? How many of you have lost 300 lbs while still eating gyros for every meal? How many of you are the co-inventor of "Only In New York", a NYC trivia board game ?(google it)

Especially the one question on everyone's mind: "Is Terd still a moron?"

He's just saying they won't be terrible on purpose. That's fine because I think they have it in them to be terrible involuntarily.

Yeah, well... you don't even own an armchair! :)

Nah, you're right -- it's the privilege of the fan.

But, Ted did not invent AOL, & he did not found AO, which was 9 years old (an eternity for a tech company) when he came on board. In fact, the company had already gone public 2 years earlier & was traded on NASDAQ.

Don't confuse Ted Leonsis with a technology entrepreneur; he isn't one.

In your mind, bro. Look again.

But... I guess the "lost 300 lbs... eating gyros" might have been a hint, huh? :)

“We had a strategic plan when I first bought the team to trade our all-star players and get under the cap and get high draft picks, and we did that. We were able to keep those high draft picks with second and sometimes third contracts. So that’s been our process. But I don’t want to do that process anymore.”

Someone should ask him about pif's list.

Edit: oops, he talked about high draft picks. No wonder why they keep throwing away those 2nds (and 1sts for Morris, Gortat, dumping Nicholson whom Ernie signed few months earlier...)!

**** Ted.

Yeah...that was a low light of the interview... but let me be an optimist:
I don’t think you can tell a staff, ‘Don’t try to win.’ I will never do that. So if this team makes the playoffs on its own, that’s fantastic.
....If you are a leader and you set our goals and you don’t meet the goals, yeah, there might be a price to pay by everyone, right?
....if the team makes the playoffs, let’s make the playoffs, and I can deal with it then.

This should NOT be overlooked. We may not be sellers, but that statement certainly means we are not buyers. Ted just basically said...
I am not happy with how the season is turning out and may need to re-evaluate in the off season. But if these guys can rally around each other, Thats great and gives a better picture moving forward.

What I gather is:
1) We ARE NOT trading assets to improve the team this year only - Good news
2) Making the playoffs is the goal and will make Ted happy that the team didnt fold, but wont stop him from making changes this offseason
3) A full rebuild/tank is NOT happening.

My thoughts. I can deal with the 3, so long as 1 & 2 are real.
Keeping the pick & Moving on from EG are more important than a full rebuild

Just as we all predicted, Ted is going to throw the Stanley Cup back in the face of anyone who questions how the Wizards are being run.

But the overall takeaway is that maybe things aren't totally hopeless.
