The Wizards biggest problem is that their 2nd & 3rd best players are 32 & 37 respectively and both are part time players at this stage of their careers. That puts more responsibility & minutes on a bench that simply isn't talented enough to hold down the fort.

The Wizards are two pieces away IMO. Isaiah Thomas at 3rd guard and an upgrade at either starting C (Yes, I'm looking at you Gortat!) and/or backup C. Maybe Gortat wakes the f*ck up and plays like he did over the 2nd half of last season and all we need is a quality backup C to displace Seraphin.

I already knew the Gortat resigning was going to be a bust. The Wizards always lose when one of their key players are up for free agency.

Gortat is mediocre and overpaid...they should DUMP him now while they can.

Well if resigning Gortat was a bust, then trading for him was as well. We could of used that 1st rounder last year to get a stretch 4 or a backup pg.

Hmmm...can we get in on that? Maybe send expirings and seconds to BKN and we get Hickson?

Okay, so this is still alive with DEN apparently now willing to send a pick to BKN. I wouldn't mind offering Miller+Blair for Hickson (maybe send Miller to BKN and Blair to DEN). It upgrades our backup center spot and opens up enough room under the tax to get some backcourt help.

(EDIT: I'd also consider Webster and a protected first for Jack, but not sure they do that.)

Maybe send kevin and gooden to the nets with a second and Thomas,
Then we get Hickson, and move nene to the bench as our main back up C and start Hickson at PF. and use the open spots to bring in some guys off the street or from China.
Then we can use blair, our trade exceptions and a second to get a Donald Sloan and/or Alexey Shved and stuff. Shved and Sloan off the bench would be really nice for us!

Hickson is terrible. Is he better than Seraphin? That's a tough one, they both historically hurt their teams on-court more than they help them. He's more expensive so I would say no to trading for him.

He's a better rebounding version of Seraphin. Seraphin may be a bit better defensively.

Ask Nuggets fans about that guy though...they can't stand him.

Agreed. Hickson is the poster boy for empty stats. Look at his on/off numbers over his career. It's like clockwork. Every season, he kills his team when he is on the floor, in huge sample sizes.

Here's an off-the-wall trade idea to create more cap space for the Durant free agency year - Trade Beal for Oladipo, because it takes away the big cap hold on Beal's contract - and Ola has another year before free agency. The Wiz would likely have to sweeten the pot some - probably with a 1st round pick, but it'd give them significantly more cap dollars - so they don't have to worry about having space to keep Hump - among other things.

We had our rim protector but we let him go. Peter John Ramos peace out.

No thanks. Beal isn't a superstar, but he's an extremely good fit alongside Wall. Basically, if we trade Beal for equal talent at the same position, chances are, we're going to end up losing because that replacement talent won't be as good of a fit. Since we don't really need the extra cap space, it's not worth it.

We're going to have enough money for Durant. If we're smart, we take the necessary steps to buy out Webster, and we refrain from resigning Seraphin. Then we should have enough money to take the team option on Humphries' contract.

I'm open to trading Beal, but only under the premise that his trade value is higher than his actual value. I wouldn't do it solely for financial reasons.

I'm selling it as a trade for cap space, but it's more than that. I can't speak for GM's, but it does appear that Beal's perceived value is higher than his actual value, and I think Oladipo is a better player than Beal. And if both reach their potential, Ola will be the better of the 2. And he'd blend fine with Wall - he's just as capable of making the kind of wide open 3 attempts that Beal gets - and he can take some of the play-making pressure off of Wall.

Yes, what you said is true about fitting Hump in, but there's no wiggle room to take advantage of other opportunities as they come by to improve the team. OKC's problem is depth. If Durant sees the same problem here, that's not a good thing.

I'd definitely consider a Beal for Oladipo swap for the reasons you cite. I wouldn't include a pick though.

As much as I like Beal I think Oladipo's got a brighter future.

Dipo's a year older. However, he's able to get his shots without the great assists by Wall. I think he's a notch better player than Beal. If Oladipo played next to Wall, his stats would peak much higher than Beal's IMO.

I think it's important that we realize, that we need to make changes, but we should not panic. Trading for pekovic is panicking. Talking the kings into a Gortat/Beal based cousins trade would be a true upgrade. We need a back up PG, we need to upgrade 3 of our 6 bigs, we need more scoring. Gortat has been solid for us, not great not terrible, just solid. He's had a bit of a slide the past couple weeks but he will bounce back. If we are not going to make a big move, for someone like cousins. A gortat, webby, blair and gooded + 2016 first for jefferson and lance works. But again, Panic is not smart!

A trade or trade(s) with Gortat going out and Monroe coming in would make me very happy.
