Well this lends support to the idea that a large segment of Bernie’s popularity came from more of a dislike of Clinton and pretty much blows away the laughable idea that the DNC rigged the primaries. I saw a poll this morning that Bernie is tied wit Biden in California of all places. Not sure what he can do to get back on track.

I think Warren took his track. She has a similar ideology, but she has a much stronger track record, more realistic and detail proposals and is much more likable.

Does anybody follow or read Seth Abramson on twitter? He's been on this, and in great detail, for a long time. There's been so much to stay on top of and he's relentless. Keen mind, exacting research, thought-provoking insight.

I think what the Mueller report lacked was the thread that put together the narrative of Trump the criminal covering up his corrupt interactions with the Russians. I think Manafort could have provided that if he flipped.

The Mueller reports has volumes of evidence that supports its findings, and likely set this corruption up to be even more damning.

Hell, most of it came out in public, on live TV, admitted by Giuliani himself 5 months ago. The stuff like the WH lawyers scrubbing the records, etc. is bad, but those are tacked-on infractions. The underlying baseline bad act that counts as a "high crime and misdemeanor" wherein Trump wants the Ukraine to investigate Biden has been common knowledge for months now. I was hoping that there would be something more - like other nations that Trump contemplated influencing, or other candidates who Trump contemplated investigating.

Still bad, and some times you need an authority such as a whistleblower to shake people awake but this has been out in the open for months.

He became pretty well known during the Mueller investigation. In hindsight, though, he was a bit of a conspiracy theory guy for the left. Not anywhere near Alex Jones level obviously (on either the breadth, depth, or shear asshole-ness of the theories) but conspiracy theories none the less.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Hmm I can't speak to conspiracy theories because I haven't seen it on his twitter and have not read his books, but as he's a lawyer he translates legalese well and he holds both sides to account. At the center of all from what I've seen so far is the adherence to rule of law as he sees it, which hasn't seemed that out there...

Oh no, I agree with that. I was engrossed in a whole bunch of his Twitter threads and I think they were all well written and he does inject a good amount of the law in there. But there were times when he went really deep on things like Felix Sater and his connection to Trump and how it meant X, Y, Z with regards to the Russia probe.

Thanks - that's not one I'm familiar with, and wonder whether his books flesh it out in a way that sounds more plausible? It is the case, though, that sometimes people get so deep into a thing it's hard not to lose the way, but I don't know enough about Sater to speak to it. It's good to check a variety of sources. Thanks for the Abramson feedback.

I think she comes across that way because Bernie has been saying close to the same things since 2015 and Warren ideas seem fresher and newer. That being said, some proposals like Medicare for All are less fleshed out, given that Warren is essentially just following Sanders Medicare for All Plan. That being said, Warren is positioning herself as more moderate than Bernie by being vague.

OTOH, I think there is a possibility that a good portion of the progressive wing turns on Warren if she in fact becomes the front runner. I'm already hearing things like "she has billionaire donors, she is meeting with Hillary Clinton/DNC, she has never voted against a military budget increase, she was a Republican". Not to mention if Biden takes his gloves off and others on the sidelines - while Biden has used the shield of Obama effectively (and is still winning some polls by double digits) and other like Tulsi Gabbard who have no realistic chance of winning have nothing else better to do.

They all are. It's a joke foisted on us by the Russians and a few billionaires who wish to destroy Government's ability to effectively limit them.

I think there's an opportunity for someone to write a ScoobyDoo script with Rudy as one of the characters.

Or make him a regular character on Mike Tyson Mysteries.

It is an interesting sociological experiment - How stupid and vile/evil can he sound while still retaining support.

Pointgod wrote:The ironic thing is that this could actually help Biden who’s been falling. It’s possible this could galvanize some Democrats around Biden because he’s now a target of Trumps lies and schemes although this didn’t happen for Clinton but I’m pretty sure we all know why.

Of course we know why. It was the basement of the pizza parlor without a basement. And the restaurant at the end of the universe. And the whale that spontaneously appeared in the atmosphere only to immediately fall to his death. And the paranoid robot that sees everything pink. Douglas Adams was a prophet.

In all seriousness, though, the fact that the Republicans have lowered the bar so ridiculously low has masked the difficulty with which Democrats have had in dealing with their own issues. The contrast in scale is massive but it's still a big deal. I've been saying from the beginning that Harris really should have been running Biden off the rails and Warren was better than Sanders in pretty much every way. They're comparable candidates with only superficial but visible differences and the results haven't been flattering. Yeah, it might have been worse in the times of Clinton, for example, but Anthony Weiner suggests it hasn't gone away, by more recent contrast. Republicans can't really play that card, nor are they interested in doing so, though they still make half-hearted efforts on occasion. Still, at least there are a fair number of them working to change those issues even if others are still perpetuating the problems. And the Republicans are still the only other option...

It's also not something that's unique to the US. Trudeau has generally apologized for his past treatment of women but he didn't apologize for his treatment of Jody Wilson-Raybould (for anyone who follows Canadian politics, too) when she pointed out conflicts of interest and corruption, with increasing levels of insistence as nothing was done at any point.
