I'm not seeing a lot that I like that will be available with the Atlanta pick 18th-21st. I do like Singleton. I'm not interested in another PF (likely backup type) with Booker on the roster, although I could be swayed by Faried. Jeff Taylor could be potentially a decent guy at the 3. I'd rather pick a Honeycutt or Nolan Smith with the 2nd round pick.

So the question is, if he's available should the Wizards consider the Jimmer? Obviously he would be a backup guard to play limited minutes, but scoring and shooting is not a small skill in basketball. I think at that point in the draft he's a reasonable value as long as your expectations are muted and you see him as a spot player. Flame away or comment as you will.

I do wonder about the kid from Hofstra with our 2nd rnd pick though.
The combines will presumably help figure that out. But it's hard to
see how you could go too wrong with Smith.

He'd be a bargain with the Atlanta pick, at $1.2 mil per year? Why not? My problem mostly lies with the idea that he's a lottery pick. He's not. He doesn't play any defense, but he would be instant offense for anyone. At the 20th pick, I'd be willing to overlook that weakness in his game.

Right, Utah passes on Jimmer with both of their 1st-round picks? I don't think-so.

I love Singleton with the Atlanta pick, but don't think he will be there. I really believe that guys like Singleton and Alec Burks are going to go higher than people think, especially with all of these kids going back to school.

Also, I'm not that high on Fredette. He really became a less effecient player as the season progressed, scoring a ton of points, but on a ton of shots without a lot of free throws. We all know about his defensive deficiencies. I still really like Diebler in the second. He has great length for a situational shooter, and was unbelievably consistent, all season, and in the tournament. I kept waiting for his shooting to fall off, but he hit close to 50 percent on the season on a really large sample size, and was very consistent from game to game. He really didn't seem to be a hot and cold streak shooter, but someone that you could depend upon as a situational shooter, to hit big shots coming in cold off the bench. If I were the Heat, the Lakers, or any other championship caliber team, I'd take a long look at Diebler.

I read the draft profile on Nikola Mirotic and he looks like he could be a good fit for the Wizards. If he is available with the ATL pick, I think he would be a non-brainer. He has some similarities with Lewis, but is more of a PF. Having a big with range and who can run the pick and role would be great for Wall. I also think he allows Booker to play at the other forward spot, because they would compliment each other well.

He certainly looks like he could help, but...

The biggest drawback from an NBA standpoint is in the likelihood a team will actually be able to bring him over. Mirotic was brought to Spain (from Montenegro, by a Real Madrid scout) when he was just 15 years old and signed a nine-year contract (which has since been redone) with unfavorable terms, as many young players in Europe often are. He still has two more seasons (after this) on his current deal, with a buyout clause that exceeds $2 million, which could be prohibitive for a NBA team.

Further complicating the situation is the fact that Mirotic was the recipient of an incredibly valuable Spanish passport last summer, making his value in Spain infinitely higher with the restrictions the ACB places on signing import players. With the way Mirotic is playing at the moment, it's likely that his contract will be restructured to allow him to earn closer to market value. That will likely involve making his exit clause even more prohibitive, not less, though.

From speaking to members of Mirotic's camp, it doesn't appear that he has a burning desire to leave Spain anytime soon, and it's not even a sure bet that he will be entering this year's draft. He reportedly is more focused on winning championships, becoming a top-level player in Europe and securing his family financially before leaving for the NBA.

Doing a draft-and-stash with our 3rd pick sounds good, leave a bunch of other slots for invites and FA, there will be plenty of hungry guys looking for work, we just have to find the best ones Spurs style

Lots of scoreboard watching to be done on the ATL pick.

Hawks are 4 games removed from either the 4th or 6th seed in the East, with 42 wins so far. Pretty well slotted, hopefully have little to play for and rest up their starters. Upcoming games include ORL, BOS, SA, and MIA. But also Wiz, Cavs, and Pacers. I'm hoping they finish with no more than 45 wins, 46 probably most likely.

Nuggets are pulling away - 44 wins already. Should finish comfortably ahead of the Hawks. Moves us to #21.

Blazers have been playing well, including two recent wins over the Duncan-less Spurs. 1 game ahead of Hawks now (how I wish they'd at least won at home vs. ATL) 43 wins and still have games with NO & Memphis (2 other teams in the mix), so one guaranteed loss in each of those. Need them to sweep GS, beat Utah, and then break even against LAL, OKC, and Dalls, they should be OK to finish above ATL (47-48 wins). Puts us at #20.

Hornets are even with the Hawks at 42 wins. They may have the toughest road. 2 games left with the Grizz, plus the Pacers and Jazz - outside of that, it's LAL, POR, PHX, HOU. Maybe 45 wins?

Grizz are actually well positioned. 41 wins right now, but by far the easiest schedule and plenty to play for, just getting in to the playoffs. Remaining games: LAC (2x), NO (2x), SAC, GS, MIN, PORT. Should get to 46, maybe 47 wins.

My best guess/best case for final records:

Hawks 45-37
Nuggets 49-33
Blazers 47-35
Grizz 46-36
Hornets 45-37

Puts us tied w/ NO for 18th, with a coin flip to determine who's 18 and who's 19. Still, getting a pick in the teens would be a great addition for the Wiz. C'mon Singleton - hope he's still there!

Looks like he is declaring after all.

Real Madrid's Nikola Mirotic will enter the 2011 NBA Draft and officially declare this week.

Mirotic, who played in the 2010 Nike Hoop Summit, has had a meteoric rise this season.

Mirotic was projected as the ninth overall selection in RealGM's pre-NCAA Tournament Mock Draft.

But with 5 of the games against LAC, GS, Min, Sac - do they really need Gay? OTOH, if their shorthandedness gives the Hornets another win or two, then it's all good...

kirubel94, that would be a great draft without a doubt!

In general we have so many holes I'm hoping to fill as much need as possible. I'd expect the draft to yield a pf/c, a sf, a guard. The order is not paramount.

My preference would be DWilliams, Markieff Morris, Nolan Smith.

But some other examples could be Barnes, Faried, Holiday... Kanter, Singleton, Buford... TJones, Patric Young, Ben Hansbrough... PJones, Jimmer Fredette, Jordan Williams.
