Yeah, those sound good. Might be interesting to see Nene or Perkins as well.

Can you say, "Erratic?"

Javale's play is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get.

It's almost predictably erratic. As in, you know he's going to follow every good game with a bad one, and every bad one with a good one.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Here's Hibbert's chart. Looks an awful lot like McGee's. Except Hibbert's season average is trending down a little while McGee's is trending slightly up.

Tyson Chandler. Superficially, it looks the same, but notice there are fewer complete dud games from Chandler. Just went through and did a significantly below 100 (league average) games for each of these three. Hibbert: 17; McGee: 15; Chandler: 6. Each of them has played 40 games. I'll have a different way of looking at this in a bit.

Man that was a horrible game against the Spurs.

Nene. Only 28 games. Not playing all that great when he's been on the floor. Overall, I have him rated slightly above average.

Wow! When I've seen Nene he looked good. Small sample size.

Note that neither Jordan nor Nene have many games sub-0 though.

Just looked at Nene's numbers more closely to see why my numbers don't like him much this year. A few things:

1. horrible offensive efficiency -- shooting percentage is way down, turnovers are up, ft% is down -- but, usage is up

2. very little offensive rebounding (he hasn't done much offensive boarding in several years, but still)

My system likes efficiency.

Here's a chart showing each player's value over average (VOAV) in my system. Average = 100. Below that is Cscore, which is his consistency score. (The fancy name is something like coefficient of deviation.)

Code: Select all

Stat    McGee   Hibbert Jordan  Chndler Nene
VOAV    126     128     144     177     110
Cscore  72      83      83      63      106

Chandler is both the most productive and the most consistent. Nene this season -- least productive and least consistent. Of this group, McGee is actually #2 in consistency.

In addition to his on-court struggles, it appears that Wizards center JaVale McGee is a bit delusional. Sources say he has informed the Wizards that he will be looking for a contract averaging around $14 million when he becomes a free agent after next season.

McGee can't even count to 14.

we ain't offering that

It will be interesting to see exactly how high someone goes.
I could see us matching an offer in the 8-10 range.

He can look all he wants. The odds of him getting that are about the same as the odds of him suddenly becoming a smart player.

I don't have a problem with McGee asking for that money right now. He (and his agent) are merely trying to goose his market price. It's the smart thing to do. I seriously doubt he'll get anything in that range though, particularly with Golden State off the market.

The question is, what will McGee do if the best offer on the table is just $8M a year? Will he go the Nick Young route and take the qualifying offer? That's just $3.5M dollars. And as we're likely to see with Nick Young, the strategy isn't always successful. (My guess is that Young won't get more than $4M a year on his new contract. He could have signed for $6M this summer. Basically, Young left $9M on the table over a 4-year period.)

McGee would immediately take a $4.5M hit by accepting the QO offer. He'd have to have reason to believe that there will be more money on the market in 2013 despite more restrictive luxtax penalties kicking in. I see no way he could make up that lost money unless he breaks out and has an all star season coupled with a dramatic turnaround in the Wizards' win/loss record.

Well if someone with some idea of how to play defense,
even without McGee's physical gifts, comes on board,
we could be a lot better. I think we've both agreed that
McGee might be better served as a backup, at least
until such time as the defensive lightbulb goes on.

jim - not a criticism, but do you hit the return key when typing, like on a typewriter? I've noticed your posts don't go across the length of the page, and wondered if it was the device you post from, or if it's on purpose.

This last post in particular had a very poetic feel - almost like iambic pentameter. Sort of like reading Shelley or Byron. (And no, I don't actually know what I'm talking about...)

Lordy, imagine how sad a state of affairs and depressing it would be in if we had Lewis at $21m, McGee at $14m, Young at $9m and Baltche at $8m next year.

Jeebus freakin jehosaphat that would make me lose all hope in humanity. If EG lets that scenario unfold it's shareholder lawsuit time for all the minority partners.
