Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Corey has eliminated Bertans from the rotation. He’s cut into Demi’s minutes as well.
I had a good feeling about him on draft night. Kev Broom had him as a top 10 pick in YODA too.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Always loved the Joe Harris comparison for Kispert. Harris is also an average or only slightly below average defender that is also efficient at finishing around the basket and always posts a really good A:TO.
Someone that is a solid secondary scorer as opposed to just a spot up shooter, and not a liability on D.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Kispert and to an extend Advija are the only players with an excuse given their lack of experience but both of them are making it count with effort and by affecting the game in more ways than just scoring.
Kispert plays smart and with purpose but those are the kind of things you expect from a four year player coming from a big time program.
What has really surprised me is that he's far more of an athlete than he's getting credit for.
He's got some hops and quicks that really catch you off-guard at time.
He's probably never going to be a lockdown defender but he makes great reads on weakside defense and does a good job making up for his lack of lateral foot speed with good anticipation and positioning.
Once his three-point shot comes around he could really make a bit of noise.

Intriguing, I wonder what the draft night trade offer was?

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Did anybody mention that according to the box score Corey kispert had 20 points tonight even if the Wizards got killed

Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Kispert is much better in the painted area than I think most were expecting. He's crafty in there and confident. He seems like he often is in the right position and he's good at cutting to the rim.

He scored 20 despite shooting just 1/6 from 3pt range. He was 8/9 from 2pt range.
That's the kind of stuff he did at Gonzaga too. He is just as much of a "scorer" as he is a "shooter". He just doesn't do it off the bounce. He might pan out to be more of a Rip Hamilton type of player than the Joe Harris type of guy that most had predicted.
He and Avdija will make a real good pairing going forward with Avdija's selflessness and passing coupled with Kispert's off-ball movement. They're going to need a first rate ball handler and isolation scorer with them though - somebody to run the offense and draw defensive attention to let those guys do their off ball thing. A guy like SGA would be ideal. And they'll also need to play alongside a quality isolation scorer - someone who can get a bucket late in the shot clock and who can punish a mismatch against a switch-everything defense. Maybe Rui can develop into that guy. If not, Kuzma is okay in that role.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Great stuff, nate....
Kispert is looking like a terrific pick & a guy who is going to have an outstanding NBA career. It's all the more impressive given that his 3pt %, though rising, is still below average. It seems sure to rise significantly.
Kispert also seems to be a more than adequate positional defender -- & he defends w/o fouling much.

He's a guy who defends with ihis brain not his athletic ability and those guys always have a longer impact than the just purely athletic guys.

He is actually pretty athletic.
He had a 10.91 lane agility score at the combine (11th best out of 55 tested, and quite a bit better than guys like Jaden Springer, and Ayo Dosunmu).
He had the 2nd fastest shuttle run at the combine of 2.99 seconds.
His 30-inch standing vertical leap is middle-of-the-pack, but not bad at all. For comparison, Gordon Hayward had a 30.5 inch leap; Beal was 33 inches; Devin Booker 27.5 inches; and Malcolm Brodgon 30.5 inches.
When I saw his combine measurements before the draft, I was cautiously optimistic that Kispert might actually hold up pretty well defensively. He's not an athletic freak, but he definitely has the requisite baseline athleticism to hold his own in the NBA. His biggest defensive liability isn't athleticism, it's his 6-7 wingspan.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
He still looks like a very good pick relative to the rest of the draft. RAPTOR and WAR (which incorporates minutes played) both rank him as the 9th best rookie:

Herbert Jones was a 2nd round steal, and Austin Reeves is an undrafted walk-on (and probably a short term fluke on a weird LA team). Outside of those two, the only guys outplaying Kispert are guys that were picked ahead of him, and Sengun, who was picked right after him.
Kispert is outplaying a lot of guys picked ahead of him including:
Cunningham
Green
Suggs
Giddey
Kuminga
Z.Williams
Bouknight
Primo
Moody

Love what Kispert is doing for the Zards. He's going to be a solid NBA player. But he is 22 years old with 3 yrs of college experience, which gives him an advantage over the players listed here.
I'm still taking most of the players on list over Kispert, especially Cunningham (he's a stud), Kuminga and Giddey.
Green has shown he has a ways to go to earn his ranking as the #2 pick. Suggs has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries but I expect him to have an excellent pro career.
The player I want the Zards to look into is Bouknight. He's buried on the bench in Charlotte and having issues with the coach so he might be available. He's gonna be good.
BTW, I was telling y'all about Herb Jones. Can't say I expected him to be good this though.

I don't really disagree. I'm not saying Kispert is definitely the 9th best pick in this draft going forward and will forever be better than Cunningham, Suggs, Giddey and Green. I'm just saying it's pretty hard to argue with the success of the pick so far. There were no obvious "steals" that Sheppard missed out on.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
I like his game, but the 3 point shooting (31.7%) is worrisome. Looks like there's not enough arc. That, along with a fairly low release point makes it harder to get the shot off. Hopefully he can make some adjustments.

I believe Kevin's YODA had Corey as the 7th best player in the draft.
Hopefully we hold onto him.

Kispert shot 20.5% from 3-point range over his first 20 games. You could tell that he was rushing things and hadn't found his comfort zone.
Since then, he has shot 36.7% from 3 (over the next 26 games).

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
I really don’t see how anyone could possibly be concerned about his 3pt shooting. All rookies struggle to make 3s. Kispert made 270 3s in college on 662 attempts (40.8%). That’s a massive sample size.
The one thing that has never been in doubt is his ability to make 3s.

I was delusional for saying Wagner would be a better NBA player than Jalen Green.
